OMG

LOVE This song

I was singing it so much the other day that I had a dream I was in 1999 gear with ruffled shirt onstage/back stage while Prince & the noituloveR + Wendy & Jill Jones were performing it. It was so colorful and real LUV AUTOMATIC

I think some people dont like it, because they think its too long.. but to me that it makes it work so well.. the length and the combination of the sounds gives it a certain hypnotic quality that always draws me into it.

I like long, I just don't like Automatic smile

RIP sad

Don't know if it was ever released as an A-side but I do know it was on this promo for 1999:

Theres a version on (I think) a soudcheck from the ONA tour where he does a medley of Automatic & Shake. Great stuff.

I always thought he could make a pretty cool E.P, mainly him at the piano, same chords, singing Automatic, Shake & People Without, with stabs of Madhouse 6 thrown in for good measure smile

He did it on Night 7 of the 2002 Celebration at Paisley Park.

Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

Absolutely love this song. The length is fine to me since, back in the day, P produced and arranged so masterfully that he kept songs interesting throughout. Love the cymbal crashing, guitar solo, main synth line, lyrics...hell I just love it all.

Fuckin' long, fuckin' overrated, fuckin' bland, too fuckin' slow

this song left out SUPERIOR and kick-ass jams like Lust U Always, Purple Music, Chocolate, or All Day All Night, if I'm not mistaken

I'm glad Automatic NEVER was a live staple...

eek fvbhehvc.

If there was ever a guitar solo that described the work "fluid", it's the solo on this song.

Classic tune.

He did a short version at a ONA aftershow in London which led into 'Shake.' The same night he also done a teasingly short bit of 'Tamborine'
