I think this is sad for all of the people who wanted to see him, there should be more information explaining the reasons for this sudden change. Everyone has a reason to become outraged and upset when a show is suddenly cancelled, especially when there are no details as to why it occurred. 20 years is a VERY long time; to not show up in Brazil; (For the fans of Brazil and South American) I have empathy and consideration for those who will miss out. HOWEVER; the blame game is not necessary. I don't really buy into the whole theory that "Prince hates his fans, and we love him for it"... lol(Occasionally yes, but not all the time...)

I really think out of all things needed is proper context, and we are not really given proper sources besides 'Dr.Funkberry' and of course the 'Org'. Prince needs to engage himself in a successful website, and stop closing down on people. I do agree with many people here, stating this thread title is a bit harsh, and it only further supports the quote..."Good news doesn't sell". Prince has been on a roll in success with these tours and not a lot love has been shown, but as soon as he fails in something it becomes a HEADLINE.

I kid you not, YES...Prince has not really done a good job communicating with his fans over the past years. He has shown to some degree he is not as concerned about what our love and commitment is to him. There is so much that entails this and all, and I don't want to repeat what has already been said; I just have to say now...THERE NEEDS MORE CLARIFICATION AND BACKUP TO SUPPORT ALL OF THESE CLAIMS. If there is no context, we are left with biased or one sided assumptions; which are exhausted most of the times anyways..AHH

I digress..Haha..I wish love to everyone affected by this though!

confused Fair enough.

I guess I just offer the counter-balance then, as someone who booked flights, hotels, etc... before that coming weekend's LA tickets were even confirmed on a hope and a prayer and managed to book them minutes before racing out to the airport bus the mornning of my trip when they were finally released.

There are good news stories like mine, which I realise I'm very blessed to have, and there are bad news stories like yours and this latest one which are truly awful.

I guess, at the end of the day, I just don't like this constant portrayal of Prince as this cold, money-grubbing business man who doesn't care about his fans and isn't even good at doing the business he's said to be so focused on, etc... I'm not saying there aren't problems, but I just don't think he's as cold-hearted or uncaring as some people here seem to think.

The ones who truly feel screwed over by him, ok. But it becomes infectious, and suddenly people who have never had a bad experience start slamming him for not caring and being greedy, etc... based soley on the wounded words of others.

So I'm just adding my unwounded words to the discussion, I suppose.

I really agree with your post! I really don't think he is as cold as many people paint him to be. The sad thing is the quote has found its home with Prince in a way. "When you tell people a lie long enough, they believe it." Prince in a lot ways have 'Lied' to us in showing us, (possibly directly or indirectly) that he is not concerned, and now there is not enough to be said; positive about his actions. I think in many ways he just lacks 'Accountability'...recently he has been accountable for some malfunctions; such as sound, lighting in shows etc. BUT when was the last time we seen, or heard through some medium; he was truly sorry for the outcome that was not so pleasant for his fans? Imo; I think he really should exercise accountability, and should communicate with the fans he has. LIKE RELEASE A PERSONAL STATEMENT, OR ALLOW HIS WORDS TO BE RECORDED... lol

Agreed...Im also wondering if the org simply considers bad news the only things worthy of posting to the latest news section...all this other cool stuff posted by Andy Alllo (songs, pics, video) in the past two months and none of it made it to the latest news. Instead the org waits for the bad news to post...makes no sense to me.

confuse

[Edited 8/24/11 8:51am]

Indeed...I've been saying this for months...I have no problem with posting stories that may not place Prince in the best light (However, I think this Brazil news is a lot more complex...It aint Croke Park) ...But it seems like the Org is going out of its way to give a middle finger to the very artist its dedicated to...There needs to be a balance....

Regarding your last 2 sentences,.... old Prince is stuck in his ways by now so very unlikely we will see that happening!!!

Look what bullcrap Prince's current mouthpiece posted on Facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/...2776195197

Before the tour ended, there was talk about bringing the NPG Festival to Brazil.. Do you think that's a good idea??

Yeah, "there was talk". Sure.

I'm very sorry for the South-American fans!

To hear only a few days in advance that you are not going to se him perform and the loss of money, sure is dissapointing!

It's very impolite of Prince not to even communicate a respectable reason for these fans their loss.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Yes, I can assume that 'there was talk' statment true, as there was talk about the Kopenhagen version of the NPG festival.

It slowly materialized (became clear what would happen and how, etc), even on the first show-day itself (ask the inner circle people... I have pics), as the banners had to be attached at the appropriate places. (they didn't count with idiots like us)

So yes, they thoyght about Brazil, but for some reason they didn't proceed any further.

With some time and advertising it would work I guess...

But time and advertising is not P's strongest corner of the whole process of bringing a show on the road. We know that.

So this is not to remove some blame from mr P. To be able to do that he needs to communicate a bit more openly.

Not: 'Sorry for the delay', but: 'I was upset with the sound because bla or bla, we took a while because bla; Sorry for that'.

Not: 'We couldn't be there that day', but: 'Too few tickets were sold to make it a fun event that we like it to be, sorry but we'll try again soon!'

He really needs some communications related training.

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I wonder how many will be able to get refunds? eek

Plenty of time to cancel a hotel (most accept cancellation up to 72 hours before check-in).

Airlines generally issue vouchers minus a fee for most cancelled trips to ticket holders.

If Prince was the sole performer at the 'festival' and there's no other performers then they'll issue refunds. If there's other artists performing then there's still a show to be seen.

Sorry ..but in Brazil things just aint that easy ... to have a 100 percent refound its complicated .. i am trying and belive me just not working ..and they sold a special ticket just for Prince stage ...very very expansive .. asomething like 200 dolars for a place that evan dosent have a proper acustic.

Hey people, Prince tickets were sold separately and it was twice the price of the rest of the festival tickets so we will get the refund. I bough fly tickets for me and my girfriend and i will only get a 1/2 refund from the company. There were people coming from Argentina and Even europe. It sucks, the festival was relying on this presence to sell tickets the festival will be a total failure without him. I was going to cross half of the country just to see him, boy i am really pissed.

What makes you think that he is sick? He has a history of cancelling concerts and being sick was never the reason for these cancellations.

With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

I completely agree with u on this.

I hope that he will tell why he cancelled it. I think it's the right for the people to know what happened, I mean, u can't cancelled things without explaining, if he would explain, people would trust him more if he wants to come back to Brasil and try it again.

A glimmer of hope can remain for fans of Prince, the production of the singer says he only wants to postpone the show and reschedule it for November, perhaps. But the organization of the festival of black culture is not filling the eyes of the production

????

Yes, according to them, he wanted to postpone to November. But he was supposed to be part of a festival that was announced to be from Aug 26-28 a month ago! He couldnt expect that the entire festival would be postponed to November only because of him.

Well, he also cancelled in Finland many times and he cancelled Croke Park in Dublin in 2008, but he did come back to these country's/city's anyway... so never say never.

I hope he will come to you in November his shows are amazing and in Holland we had 6 gigs but when he is not come to brazil but next year to Holland your welcome to come and We will welcome you in our house so you don't have to stay in a Hotel.

But I agreed with a lot of fans I love Prince but the communication to his fans is terrible and we are the ones who keeps his train going, we go to his gigs, we buy his c.d's and d.v.d's let's be real we are all dellirious about this man and his music but I think we also may talk back and let him know that the real fans are punished by his fight against the internet etc.

Exactly. I always find it bizarre when certain individuals criticize orgers for criticizing Prince when he pulls a stunt like this. If you buy a CD from Amazon, and it shows up three months late and the CD is broken into pieces, would you have any problem complaining on the Amazon website? If not, how is complaining about Prince on this website any different? We're his customers. He may not care what we say but we certainly have the right to say it.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.
