Indeed...I've been saying this for months...I have no problem with posting stories that may not place Prince in the best light (However, I think this Brazil news is a lot more complex...It aint Croke Park) ...But it seems like the Org is going out of its way to give a middle finger to the very artist its dedicated to...There needs to be a balance....

There is a balance. Prince gives a middle finger to us and so we give it back to him.

POST OF THE YEAR! biggrin

What do you suppose the odds are that a contractually-obligated payment to Prince was not made as agreed?

I'm inclined to believe that the parties fell off on a deal and Prince decided to back off instead of doing it because he would feel like Brazilian organizers would've ripped him off. I can totally see that happening. Least it was five days and not last minute like most of these festivals where others just straight out cancel before showtime.

Very high, given that Prince cancelled. Take a look at the cancellation clause and payment structure in his contract for the Dallas concert:

http://images.bimedia.net...ntract.pdf

If this is his standard language now, here's a likely scenario: he got his advance, but they missed a second payment, so he told them to come up with the money or he wouldn't play. No money, no show.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Just read this... I translated to english, so I don't know for sure if the information is correct, and if it's correct, I don't know if it's true..

http://www.jb.com.br/helo...ack2black/

A glimmer of hope can remain for fans of Prince, the production of the singer says he only wants to postpone the show and reschedule it for November, perhaps. But the organization of the festival of black culture is not filling the eyes of the production

fans, of course, are really angry, specially because Brazil is a big country, so most of them don't live in Rio and had already bought plane tickets and made hotel reservations. it's a big mess. I didn't even know that he was coming...I was kinda lucky 4 that..on the other hand I would hate myself if it happened and I found out about it 2 late.

"Fans, of course, are really angry..."

Which fans? You didn't even know about it but you do know they're angry. Huh?

We all look for financial reasons but is it possible that he just doesn't feel like it or isn't up to it. Although he performs for a living it is still a job, it's still work. How many times have you not felt like going to work and took a PTO day. Did you need to give a reason or tell everyone in HR hey I don't feel like coming to work and being around you people. I recall once he (Prince) abruptly cancelled some part of his tour and all the fans complained on org about it but years later it turned out one of the members of the band had experienced a death. So again, it isn't always about money.

- Yes, of course. That´s why I am not hating Prince. I only feel sad about the whole situation. The only thing annoying about Prince is that he probably wont explain to the fans why he did it. Other artists would probably care more to explain.

Wow!!! He has become quite a fan of cancellations in recent years.

What I've learned here is that no matter what Prince does, people will still risk financial ruin in hopes of being in her presence. As for me, I'm good just having his CDs and DVDs. At least with those, you are guaranteed that he will be there. wink

My deepest condolences to all of those who have, yet again, had their feelings and wallets hurt by Prince. And, no, I am not being sarcastic in saying that. neutral

A genius like Prince who has tiredlessly toured over 30 years and mostly done some of the greatest live shows ever, should be respected, for a minor glich. He has done massive tours over the years, im a Prince fan and have nver been dispointed in any way, but greatful dat he tours so often, and the gigs quality.

Although I understand what you are trying to say, please dont infer that it is a "minor" glitch. Thousands of people have purchased tickets to attend. And considering that some also need to secure air travel (Brazillians generally commute via air from city to city) to phrase this as a minor glitch is belittling and to add that you have seen him (Prince) lots of times is just insulting. Why say such?

yeah, if the ticket sales weren't doing well, then that is most likely why he decided to cancel.

Is that so?

Has his deal changed from 1.5M USD for a show, independent of crowd numbers, to a percentage of ticket sales?

Does he have a clause in the contract to cancel with a small crowd even in the 1.5M case?

just a guess. shruglol

This might be slightly off topic but in all seriousness, perhaps the stage collapse thing in Indiana freaked him out a bit. Maybe it made him a bit apprehensive, as I'm sure a lot more concerts have people thinking back on the tragedy a few weeks ago.
