He is morally obligated to release an official statement, people are coming from all parts of south america. It´s not like cancelling a show in ireland and playing UK next month, Brazil is very far from USA and Europe, it´s difficult even for him to get near around here, and he didnt come to this continent the last 20 years.

Prince it´s never late to learn to be a man.Be a gentleman once f f sake.

The organizers of back2black festival claims they dont have any idea of what happened. The email his producer sended was cold and laconic.

Dallas 2010

Now this 5 days out.

I believe all of these were with very little notice and after most fans had already bought plane tickets and booked hotel rooms, etc.

So that's 3 canceled concerts in 3 years? Is that the reason for all this bitching?

I was thinking the same. I don't understand why the headline can't simply be: "Prince Cancels Concert in Brasil"...

Ironically, the headline is confusing.

See http://www.nypost.com/p/n...VHnQQ3sWON for an old article mentioning cancellations by others hurting company performance.
No wonder he loves Europe if $69 was too expensive for the general ticket buyer.

That's another whole angle to this. Whenever Prince cancels a concert, that adds to the risk that promoters have to take into account in negotiating with him. Nobody likes to make a contract with someone who is likely to breach it.

- That´s why I dont believe Prince will play here again. Who would want to sign a contract with him after that?

I do feel bad for the people in Brasil, and South America at large, as Prince seemingly hasn't wanted to go there and show his ability and strength as possibly the greatest living performer.

Another thing that is bothering us is that we dont know the reasons of the cancelling. We were so excited, after 20 years, and then, the show is cancelled and nobody says nothing. Prince didnt put a note on his website (he doesnt have) and the Back2Black site doesnt give us any explanation.

I heard they will give more info tomorrow? I really think that they need to explain why it's cancelled, you just can't cancelled something without explaining !

Well, the organizers will probably give their version, that Prince simply decided to cancel. And it seems we will never hear Prince´s version. Prince already has a fame of being eccentric, so people will probably believe he simply decided not to go and hate him.

I believe the main reason were the ticket sales. I heard he sold around 4000 tickets, which is not good for Prince´s standards. They were very expensive for brazilian standards and lots of people didnt know he was going to perform.

yeah, if the ticket sales weren't doing well, then that is most likely why he decided to cancel.

as it seems right now, IMO, it seems it's the organizer's fault rather than P's. Maybe the lack of any major promotion was the reason 4 low sales. I found out that Prince was coming 2 Brazil yesterday when I found out that the show was cancelled. I considered myself 2 be a well informed guy, I access internet on a daily basis...I mean, it's a big deal Prince coming 2 Brazil...somehow I missed the news or they missed me...

Is that so?

Has his deal changed from 1.5M USD for a show, independent of crowd numbers, to a percentage of ticket sales?

Does he have a clause in the contract to cancel with a small crowd even in the 1.5M case?

- That was the reason I believed the show was going to happen. Because he would receive his money anyway. But maybe Prince didnt want to play for a small crowd (let´s not forget that Stade de France had almost 40000).

The promotion was very poor until the last days. And the ticket price was very high.

Just to give an example. Tickets for Prince only were sold for 250 reais. In Rock in Rio, a person pays 160 and watches on the same day Jamiroquai, Janelle Monae and Stevie Wonder...

And Back2Black Festival never brought an artist like Prince. They usually bring great artists like Erykah, Chaka, etc. But Prince is another level. I thought they were trying to be a bigger festival bringing Prince, but now the situation got even worse for them.

Agreed...Im also wondering if the org simply considers bad news the only things worthy of posting to the latest news section...all this other cool stuff posted by Andy Alllo (songs, pics, video) in the past two months and none of it made it to the latest news. Instead the org waits for the bad news to post...makes no sense to me.

Anyway - this is unfortunate for the great people of South America...let's hope he makes up for it

In the case of Dallas, news reporting eventually revealed that the concert was headed for disaster long before the day of the event because so few tickets had been sold. But we didn't get notice until after the concert was supposed to have started. The promoters were trying to string everyone along as long as possible in the hope that things would somehow turn around. The concert was being put together by a bunch of amateurs who wanted to hit the big time by landing Prince. I see a pattern here.

Indeed...I've been saying this for months...I have no problem with posting stories that may not place Prince in the best light (However, I think this Brazil news is a lot more complex...It aint Croke Park) ...But it seems like the Org is going out of its way to give a middle finger to the very artist its dedicated to...There needs to be a balance....

There is a balance. Prince gives a middle finger to us and so we give it back to him.
