I think it would be great if Prince played some of his albums all the way through live.

It depends. Hopefully if he doesn't play any hits the setlist doesn't turn out like this:

  1. Stratus
  2. We Live 2 Get Funky
  3. People Pleaser
  4. (Theme Song From) Which Way Is Up?
  5. Come Together
  6. Everyday People
  7. Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)
  8. I Want To Take You Higher
  9. Dance (Disco Heat)
  10. Love Rollercoaster
  11. Play That Funky Music
  12. Pass The Peas
  13. What Have You Done For Me Lately
  14. Misty Blue

I would probably pay more to not hear the hits. I'm not saying I want to listen to him play The Rainbow Children live, but he could scoop out all kinds of goodies that never were a single.

I worked at Glam Slam LA in the 90's and only saw shows that had no hits. It was great. Prince had more confidence in his current work at that time compared to now. He was also more relevant to the current music scene then too so he could get away with not playing any hits. He was still a big star.

Wow!!! What if he had been bold enough to play an album or two a night during his 21 Nights in LA run? That would've truly been historic. No one has ever done any shit like that before<img src=" src="http://prince.org/i/s/icon_biggrin.gif" /> <img src=" src="http://prince.org/i/s/icon_biggrin.gif" /> <img src=" src="http://prince.org/i/s/icon_biggrin.gif" />

I would pay to see him do a 90 minute rendition of "Rich Friends" before I'd pay to see him do a greatest hits set.

And anything off Purple Rain would likely be recognized by casual fans, like "Computer Blue".

Some artists do play their albums start to finish live, but not very many, and certainly no one as big as Prince. It'd be a cool thing to do... or if he played exclusively new stuff, by which I mean stuff that's never been released or heard by anyone but him and his band. I'd pay any price to see him live if he'd do all new songs... I think a lot of people would.

Thats what would be FANTASTIC!! I miss the days where he played his new music. That is why his shows are so boring now because he plays the same stale hits over and over. Every tour where he played the new stuff was GREAT!! It really went down since the Musicology tour. I would be there in a heartbeat if he played non hit stuff!!

I'm ok either way. But I agree no covers. Prince has too much music-not to perform his music. The answer is yes, I'd go.

When he played a few unreleased songs at the LA shows, that is when the crowd sat down or went to the bathroom. I've seen him at Glam Slam doing a show or two of rare/unreleased songs (Papa, etc. before they were out) and it was pretty good, but I know that many people outside of this website wouldn't enjoy it as much.

How were the shows club shows he did while in LA? They were mostly rarely performed songs if I recall.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

I dream of it. Reason #1 that I haven't been interested in seeing him for years is the setlist.

Sure, the casual fan would not be interested in hearing "obscure" songs but as long as people knew ahead of time to expect the unexpected I think he could do a successful tour without playing the hits. He would probably need to play smaller venues but it could still be profitable.

I think he would love it too. It has got to be a bit boring playing "Let's Go Crazy" every night.

lol ok maybe only a 1/4 hits. And what Jam would u put on the list that wasn't a "Hit" that the casual fan knows?

I'll start with Days of Wild...

I'm cool with that, as long as he doesn't do any of those godawful BORING extended "jams". If I wanted to see the grateful dead, I'd see "The Dead"

I've been to both types of shows and had great times at them all. So yeah i'd go to another show if he didn't play the hits.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Hell yeah, I would soo be there if he had the balls to give such a concert! No stupid covers, no played to death boring songs (let's go crazy ... uaargh!), just pure brilliant classic timeless Prince songs like these, in no particular order:

And God Created Women

Lady Cab Driver

Open Book

Last December

Crucial

Electric Intercourse

Better With Time

South (from N.E.W.S.)

Power Fantastic

I'm Yours

International Lover

Everywhere

Life Can Be So Nice

Still Would Stand All Time

We Can Funk

Love To the 9's

Dolphin

Good Love

Venus de Milo

The Holy River

Pink Cashmere

The Love We Make

Colonized Mind

Days of Wild

geez, I could go on and on, I'm getting hard, these songs are all f'ng great, I so wish he would play a setlist like this instead of playing all that casual shit and stupid stupid annoying covers for the dumb masses, he should also stfu about yelling he got so many hits, I don't give a damn about a song being a hit or not ... all I care about is great songs of which he's got so many it's almost criminal to not play them!

If he does theater and club shows, he should be free to do the songs he feels like doing, but if he's playing arenas or private big money shows, he has more of an obligation to the audience to do them.

I think he should do a "Soundstage" type show live from Paisley Park, stream it on UStream and charge a few bucks to watch it live, and people can just start requesting and either he plays it solo or with the band for a minute or two, and keep the setlist loose.

Define "Hit". Are we talking chart impact?

Currently, there are some all time beloved/overplayed songs in Prince's current setlist, but he leaves out a lot more "hit" songs than he includes.

Look at this playlist from a few days ago. How many of these songs are legit "hits" vs. well known songs amongst Prince fans? I have bolded the songs that I think of as being "Prince hits"...including Controversy...which I don't think actually did much on the charts. As far as covers, I grandfathered in hits by Vanity 6, Sheila E. and The Time as well.

Rock Steady (Shelby J)
Rude Boy
People Pleaser (Andy Allo Lead Vox)
She's Always In My Hair
I Like It There
Controversy
Sexy Dancer - Le Freak
(Theme Song From) Which Way Is Up ? (Shelby J)
Controversy (Reprise)
Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)
Only Heaven Knows (Prince On Bass)
D.M.S.R.
Pop Life (Incl. Scrapple From The Apple)
Musicology
The Question Of U (Instr.) - The One
Misty Blue (Shelby J. & Liv Warfield On Lead Vox)
Let's Go Crazy
Delirious
Let's Go Crazy (Reprise)
1999
Shhh
Take Me With U
Raspberry Beret
Cream
U Got The Look

Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)
A Case Of U
Under The Cherry Moon (Instr.)
Let's Get It On

How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore (Incl. Please, Please, Please)

Sampler Set : Sign 'O' The Times - Mr. Goodnight - Nasty Girl (Instr.) - Darling Nikki (Instr.) - I Would Die 4 U

Kiss

Make You Feel My Love
Purple Rain

The Bird
Jungle Love (Incl. Love Rollercoaster)
A Love Bizarre (Incl. Eye Like Funky Music Chant - Housequake Chants)

If not: me ! I'd pay the insane amounts he asks these days just to hear Bambi 20 times in a row.
