Is this Prince's way of boosting ticket sales for his European shows this summer? lol

I wonder if Prince knows there's still a vacancy for dictator in Egypt? I heard the last one made tens of billions by ripping of its mostly poor population of 80 million people. That's right billions, not millions. He could apply and then become the new Pharaoh. He needs to make sure tho' they don't rise up against him, but I am positive Prince will have all that potential unrest and disorder covered with his funky music.

In the meantime I will refrain from making further comments untill the entire interview comes out.

This interview is proof that:
1) Musicians should NEVER be considered role models
2) Just because you're a musician doesn't mean you know JACK SHIT.

Its funny, since he's so into the roots of words, that he doesn't even realize that we are not "analog" or "digital". The body doesn't care!!!! ANALOG audio is an ANALOGY of the original signal that is neither analog or digital. It's just frequencies! Digital is just a bit representation of that/those frequencies. I am so sick of these anti-digital rants from nostalgic musicians! Talk to a real audio scientist to learn the truth! (And NOT an engineer or someone in the business. They're biased as hell.)

Seriously Prince! Women like wearing burkas (sp)? What about chastity belts? I agree with a previous poster. Prince has always seemed conservative as hell. But him fighting against it was absolutely wonderful and led to great music. That day is fucking GONE!!

nod I think that's true. The sex fantasies that appeared on his records were generally about control too (it's always the woman who's tied up and subject to his desires, etc). When he converted, he shifted from making that an erotic fantasy to making it a religious edict (e.g. the "theocratic order" from 1+1+1 is 3).

Interestingly, the other thing he'd do lyrically, pre-conversion, is put an idealised woman on a pedestal ("All that's wrong in my world you can make right", etc), which also fits right in as the 'good side' of whore/madonna dualism about women that's often there in religious fundamentalism.

That's just what I was thinking. Just a few examples:

"I'm sorry, but I'm just gonna have to rape you. Now are you going to get into the tub or do I have to drag you? Don't make me drag you. I can be very cruel." ("Extra Lovable")

"You take them to your crib and you tie them to a chair. Then you make funny faces till they get really scared." ("Superfunkycalifragisexy")

"Nod your head one time if you hear me. If you don't, I'll have to use the rod." ("I Hate U," which is all about putting a woman on trial for being unfaithful.)

All of these songs predate his JW conversion. I think everyone gave him a pass on this kind of stuff, partly because he also wrote "Automatic" in which he's the one being tortured, and partly because he's a little man who doesn't seem that physically threatening.

Prince needs more therapy sessions and less religious study in my opinion.

I agree with this wholeheartedly but when I first came on this site and posed the LEGITIMATE question; "Does Prince have mental health issues?" everyone ripped me a new asshole. But the longer you sit back and observe the more obvious it becomes...

The sad thing here is..

1) He's oblivious to the fact that it ain't his new records people are downloading

2) He's forgetting a certain something he had called New-somethingsomething-Club online? They had digital (and low bitrate at that) stuff for members. So is that shit now officially out of "The Canon" for Prince or are we getting releases vinyls of everything he did back then (erh .. no)?

3) He's actually, he himself, encouraging someone like me and probably a whole punch of other people as well to download his (future) stuff rather than buying it. With opinions like that, Prince, it's difficult not to call you a borderline fascist rather than "just" religious. I mean .. does he remember the apartheid? Was that just tough luck for "no choice", but everybody was happy? I like his music and will be curious to his future sounds .. but I can't possibly give him any of my money, if this doesn't turn out to be very badly misquoted. Which equals: I'll download, since I don't give a crap about him as a private, rather sick person.

4) In the next interview he does he'll say "I have Muslim female friends and we study the Bible together and I buy ice cream for us and then I allow them, like, 2 have a choice, like, do they want vanilla or banana, and I swear to Jehova that they are free to choose in my house!", and he'll stretch the point that he's been misquoted .. but it won't be because he doesn't habour fascist opinions and think such human outlooks should burn in hell, but because if his image is tainted with things like that, he won't be able to earn as much money.

I actually think it is. Prince has always been one to try and get a reaction, whether it's good or bad, I'm sure he knows his silly opinions will cause a stir, even if it's only amongst the patrons of this and other fans sites (cause god knows no one else cares!)

In my opinion, it's going to become more and more obvious as the years go by. I've noticed just from watching interviews that he has an unhealthy paranoia, always thinking people are out to get him, to steal from him; his music, his things, his image, whatever. I predict by the end he will be worse than Howard Hughes. At least Howard Hughes hid away, Prince, I predict, will just become more vocal and more nutty until his head blows up. eek eek

Why would anyone be surprised? As I've pointed out before, he told us long ago:

"You think I'm crazy, you're probably right. But I'm gonna have fun every motherfucking night."

The way I see it, either he's mentally ill or he's just eccentric and wants everyone to think he's crazy to get attention. Doesn't really matter because no one takes him seriously except for a few crazy fans who'd like nothing more than to be tied up and whipped by Prince.

Well, slander and defamation is illegal, or can the very least be challenged, so IF mister Prince actually never said that .. he can easily take it up with the court in the UK.

My guess is, he won't, and maybe probably because he actually most likely said that. He's got himself into a Mel Gibson .. and I bet his career in Turkey or Iran won't be a big one. Those Allah ruled lands aren't big on wee fellas looking like something extralovable from Bollywood's colorfull side.

Right. We now have a new winner in the category for most absolutely stupid and naive thing he's ever said. He's gone from being 'slightly loony' to 'complete moron' now in my eyes. I can only hope that this is fake, misquoted or taken out of context (a bad joke perhaps?). I hope that's what it is. If not, he's just lost a lot of my respect.

AND I totally agree with you. I really hope this interview is not accurate. I guess I don't want to accept the fact that I'm a fan; to one of the biggest contradictions that has ever walked pop culture. I mean the stuff he said here is ridiculous. How can he sleep at night? An answer to his question in "Positivity": "Can U sleep nights? Do U dream straight up or do U dream in W's?" UMM PRINCE, you dream in w's. Your statements are so horizontal, vertical, curvy, and simply uneven. You expect your work to sell having a mindset that is so far from truth, it hurts. Seriously, this is one of the first times; I can honestly say this made me say: "DAMN, what is wrong with him?" We got to pray for him & wish him heaven. I suppose there is something deeper in his life that he's covering up with nonsense.
