Exactly. Prince knows nothing about Islam or the diversity of Islamic countries. But I could easily see him converting and then preaching to everyone about how ignorant we all are. He's attracted to the idea of social control, especially control over women. If he gave a concert in Salt Lake City recently he'd probably be talking about how great Mormonism is, based on equally ignorant stereotypes. What a silly person. If he could take all his old CDs out of our hands he probably would.

nod I think that's true. The sex fantasies that appeared on his records were generally about control too (it's always the woman who's tied up and subject to his desires, etc). When he converted, he shifted from making that an erotic fantasy to making it a religious edict (e.g. the "theocratic order" from 1+1+1 is 3).

Interestingly, the other thing he'd do lyrically, pre-conversion, is put an idealised woman on a pedestal ("All that's wrong in my world you can make right", etc), which also fits right in as the 'good side' of whore/madonna dualism about women that's often there in religious fundamentalism.

That's just what I was thinking. Just a few examples:

"I'm sorry, but I'm just gonna have to rape you. Now are you going to get into the tub or do I have to drag you? Don't make me drag you. I can be very cruel." ("Extra Lovable")

"You take them to your crib and you tie them to a chair. Then you make funny faces till they get really scared." ("Superfunkycalifragisexy")

"Nod your head one time if you hear me. If you don't, I'll have to use the rod." ("I Hate U," which is all about putting a woman on trial for being unfaithful.)

All of these songs predate his JW conversion. I think everyone gave him a pass on this kind of stuff, partly because he also wrote "Automatic" in which he's the one being tortured, and partly because he's a little man who doesn't seem that physically threatening.

Prince needs more therapy sessions and less religious study in my opinion.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

It's very telling how little attention the prospect of him retiring from the studio gets in comparison to his dumb viewpoints. If the music was better fans would overlook nearly anything. Like others have said remaster the past stuff and empty the vaults of DVDs etc and virtually nobody would shed a tear for the loss of new recordings.

That is probably the most pathetic and disheartening thing I've ever read from Prince.

What a fucking cretin.

Another example of P not knowing what hes talking about Sunni Muslims and Shite Muslims can't stand each other. In Iraq they have killed each other and blown up each others Mosques!

Last year in Denmark angry young muslims were throwing tomatos and other stuff at one of the biggest "stars" on the danish scene these years, while she was performing her show:

Reason for them to be that angry: her stage name is MEDINA, to them she was violating a holy name of a Muslim city,

I hope noone will throw tomatos at Prince at his show in Denmark this august, but Prince should beware, politics and religion often makes (some) people get nuts.

I wish Prince would stay off talking religion and politics,

Oh I wish I would wake up, and he was NORMAL again... wink

i don't think mosst fans really believe this. He also said, at one point, that he wasn't going to do music videos. I dont know for sure but i do not believe he is retiring.

Impossible as it might seem, the guy becomes more and more a yet bigger idiot.

The last thing I could expect was him defending the islamic religion.

So, the guy loves mental dictatorships...

Thinking about the turds he's released since 2004, I'll be cool with not having new albums from him.

If he has a problem with piracy it's because of the vultures downloading his officially available stuff instead of purchasing it.

But then again, many people could say they hate being scalped with a website that doesn't deliver 5% of what had been promised. T-Shirts included.

Same for those who weren't warned about DRMs expiring.

And what about 'lifetime memberships' on a music club that's suddenly taken down?

What about people paying in advance for an 'internet-only' release and then find Crystal Ball in stores even before the orders were fullfilled?

He doesn't sell his concerts? OK, I'll keep on getting them bootlegged.

Old albums of his are no longer available because of his one-off deals with obscure or semi-dying labels? OK, those who couldn't get them when they were on sale will have to get them illegally.

He decided not to release 20Ten in the USA (or couldn't find a bargain deal for it)? Well, people who didn't have a friend in certain European countries will have to download it or purchase it from bigger vultures than himself.

You did it wrong, Prince. Now just abide the consecuences.

I agree with everything here except for the no new album statement. I will purchase any music the man puts out. Some of it is better than others, but I can honestly say that I've enjoyed listening to each album. If his concerts were available for purchase on a website or something, I'd buy those. If the vault material was available legitimate, I'd buy that. The only shit I even consider downloading is stuff I can't get for real. Besides, do you have any idea how many times I've bought 1999? Lp, cassette, cd, and I'll buy the remaster if it shows up in stores.

Blame the guy who maintains his allegiance to this ridiculous religion! NO one wants to blame Prince for his decisions...why is that?

"It's fun being in Islamic countries, to know there's only one religion. There's order. You wear a burqa. There's no choice. People are happy with that."

Except for the women who have no rights to drive, hold a job, etc. Man- this makes me think Prince is willfully ignorant so he can live in a fantasy land.

He bags on digital music when the sonics of 20ten sound like BAD mixing on a laptop. That wasn't cut on tape. So how can it be analog.

Does he have friends who can have a word with him about any of this, or do they just say "YES SIR (where's my check)" ??

Hell, no wonder his old friends worry about him.

This is how deluded he is - there are bands who are bigger draws than Prince, yet he thinks Glastonbury are shooting off rumours about him every year so they'll get unsuspecting music fans to come see him.

wow, he really has no place in the modern world does he. Does he also support the fact that Mulsim women in Saudi aren't allowed to drive!. As for digital music, well did he actual play back 3121 on a regular sound system and realise just how horrible, loud, muddy some of the trax sounded.

As for not recording another album I think most are not really that fuseed?.

The killer line though is in respect of Glastonberry, like they really need to use his name to flog tickets. Let's see how many turn out for Hop farm. P really needs to get over himself, take a year out, go work and live in impoverished / enslaved nations and come back with a reality check.

By the way how sad is it to see a once true revolutionery slowly but surely kill his legacy and career. Sad times indeed.

Relax folks, let's wait until the complete article comes out and see if his words were taken out of context. I'm really shocked about the one religion and burka quote. When one thinks of all the nameless women who have been beaten or treated worse for not wearing a burka, his quote then makes him sound really stupid and insensitive. If this quote is for real and this article goes viral, be prepared for a shitstorm Prince. I'm not sure even a prepared apology or explanation ala Tracy Morgan will help.

This confirms what I've suspected for some time. I think Prince has always been a conservative, control-freak and was heavily influenced by his extremely strict father. Actually, the nihilistic rebel of Dirty Mind/Controversy was actually a fake Prince he concocted to appeal to the public as a freakish outside rand misunderstood genius and many anecdotes and lyrics point to the fact that Prince was never quite the liberal revolutionary many took him to be. As he gets older, this dichotomy becomes more and more apparent.
