It's a good birthday present to yourself!

He's playing on my b-day, too - the 29th and I think I may try to go and treat myself. wink

When's your birthday?

$10 and $25 seats are a good sign that something's not right.

When you do a series of 21 gigs in such a crisis context, it seems right. Many tours and shows are cancelled over the world at the moment due to poor sales.

I think Prince did incredibly well for someone who is not signed with a major, who has no proper cd release in the stores lately, who is not following a promo marketing plan and who is announcing shows at the last minute.

I think it's a miracle he has filled in arenas in NYC, NS, SC and in California this way! In fact, it's quite an amazing achievement.

How Dare you have some POSITIVITY on this thread or speak any type of PRAISE. This is the org ...land of the unappreciativemuthafuggaswhoclaim2bfansbutwhine/criticize/complainatanyandallthings,yetstillcomeplayhismusicand attend hisshows.

The 28th. Last time I saw him on my b-day was at Empire in 2006.

I could probably manage it. But that's also a holiday weekend and I doubt my sweetie'd want to go.

I understand what you're saying!! It's not just with P... I never quite understood why the mainstrean American public is so fickle with it's music artists. It's always about who's young and current. In some parts of the world, once you're a superstar...you're always a superstar. I guess this is why lots of classic artists spend most of their time touring Europe and Asia.

true that----

Prince irrational behavior is a big part of what most of us love with Prince. That from the beginning of his career insist on playing all the instruments himself. Stick to the demo mix of "Dirty Mind,", dropping "1999" as a double album, releasing ARTWIAD tightly on Purple Rain, changing its name in 1994, touring with songs no one heard in 1995 ... and so on...

Even so, he better now do a reality check. You do not sell out 21 gigs in LA without proper promotion. Or Without a new album, his last album that was available was Planet Earth (Lotus and 20Ten requires too much of a non-fan to find). He does not even have his own website! (and robbed most of us at tremendous money for nothing via lotusflow3r.com).

And finally, in fact his shows has since "Musicality" in 2004 came to be more and more similar. Even if he throws on a bit in the setlists, its still pretty predictable and not very innovative. Apart from a handful of after-show-gigs and the jazz-gigs in 2009 Montreux, there is more to desire/expect from an artist with Prince capacity.

[Edited 5/11/11 8:01am]

One, the tour was called "Musicology".

Two, Prince's irrational behavior is NOT a big part of what we love about Prince. The events you mentioned almost all came during times where he had competent team members around to minimize any HUGE fallout from "weird" decisions (and they weren't even really weird, per se...just different). So, we all loved what was going on because the music was out of this world. His music and performances were on fuckin' fire for most of these events.

Nowadays, he has no real, qualified people in his corner for the business aspect, and his music just STINKS now. Add on top of that that his performances are now fit for Vegas! disbelief So now, he doesn't have that same leeway with us to be making all of these out-of-left field decisions. We could always say, "Yeah, he might be crazy, but everything about his music is the shit!!". Now, we can only say, "He's crazy, often unprofessional, and his music IS shit!" Oh how far the mighty have fallen....

Speak 4 urself. eye love Prince's new music, 2 b still putting it out after over 30 years and at his age is remarkable. No other artist his age has done that continuously
every year.

His per4mances here in LA have been incredible. The energy he has shown is amazing. He is still top notch on stage IN HIS 50'S. Nobody can match him there. NOBODY! Prince is Prince. He has always done things his way. That is why he still has fans that follow him. He is not boring & always full of surprises.

Yes! I still drink the purple "Cool"aid after over 30 years. My refrigerator
stays full of it........

Shelby J and John Blackwell are both from the carolinas.. I am also from NC and we have some of the most gorgeous mountains (they arent the rockies.. dumbass)... and coastlines. thats why NC has so many movies filmed here because its so beautiful!! so if you have anything else to say about NC or the people who live here being racist, then why dont you meet me in the Walmart parking lot and say it to my face !!cool

you are absolutely correct and its not just the fans its the media over here too ... if your not current you are not newsworthy .... i think p is more comfortable in france and other european locales because he is treated with the respect and reverance he deserves... thats why he spends more time there and plays there more often.. i think he has a sarcastic view towards the states and i dont blame him even though im from here

One point of view is that since we have so much and everything is 'here & now' that we've (in the U.S.) some of us, are spoiled. We don't have the passion we used to have for music, clothes and a certain way of life, like we did when we were kids. Or at least 'I' don't. When it comes to music, I have the same passion. Some of my 'peeps' (friends and associates) kinda chuckle in my direction becuz I'm so over when it comes to Prince (& The Related Artist) but, I don't care. Hell, I MARRIED a hardcore fan and wouldn't have done that if she wasn't.

Bottom-line ... I agree with you ...

I hear attenance has been very erratic and I think its down to that. To me though, the entire set up seems to be just another Earth Tour which has been done and much copied. He cant keep touring his greatest hits, he needs to have an album in tow to generate some excitement.

The O2 concerts were great and I am sure the US ones have been equally great, however I do think (and its only my opinion) that we the more hard core fans are more happy with the smaller venue (say 3000 people) where P just plays what he wants - not necessarily the hits - a more intimate venue suits him better - I feel

I agree. It's one of the reasons I'm not hopping on a plane to LA. I don't care if the tickets are 10 bucks - I'm just not really up for an arena show anymore. Especially after seeing him on a small scale the last three times I've gone (Empire and 3121 in Vegas and Paisley in 2009). shrug

Prince wouldn't have these problems if his so-called "fams" were willing to do the work.

Are you willing to explain?

Well, for example, look at how fams refuse to give him $77 in advance to join a club where they may or may not receive new music. How is he supposed to have paper to pay band members when fams make him produce the music *before* they buy it?

My favorite Prince tour ever was One Night Alone. I was there at the beginning of the tour at Chicago Theater. It ranks as my fave show ever, from anyone. It was intimate, fresh, AWESome set list (total mix of old and new) and a great band. I really thought that was going to be the way Prince did it from then on. But no...now he does these marathon runs in one city that is nowhere near me...and guess what I am 42 and am NOT going to be traveling to the coasts to see him live....with my work, family, life...its simply not possible. That crap that US fans don't care is BS. Guess what Europe...LA is not next door to Chicago. I love the guy and his music. If he comes to Chicago I will be there...but I am not diggin the way he wants to play lately.
