I like the way they stuck to the original, but it's a little to schmaltzy for my liking.Tom's version was much better.....

According to this, P allowed the rights for the use of this song. Maybe he had issues with the new version after he had heard it. lol

On March 8th at 8PM on Fox 5 in Queens, Gleeks can tune in for the return of Holly Holliday to their favorite television show. Gwyneth Paltrow will be reprising her role, and when she does, Glee has received a special honor—the rights to a song from a certain artist.

That’s right, Glee (and Prince) fans. According to TVLine, Paltrow will be joining Matthew Morrison for a duet of Prince’s hit, “Kiss.” Prince “very rarely licenses his music for television,” so many fans had given up hope of hearing one of his hits covered by the cast—at least anytime soon. Apparently their duet features “a sexed-up version,” of the song, and Emma (and fans of her and Will’s relationship) won’t be too happy about the duet (or resulting kiss). Paltrow and Morrison were a hit her last time on the show in “The Substitute” with the “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Umbrella” mash-up. Hopefully this duet is just as good.

Gwyneth Paltrow isn’t just back to kiss and sing with Will Schuester. Holly’s next substitute teaching gig is for sex education. She clears a few things up for the students (specifically Brittany and Finn) and also apparently helps Santana with her bisexuality. There have also been rumors that she’s the one that could be making Brittana happen.

Tune in to Fox 5 in Queens at 8PM on March 8th for this hot duet and to see if Prince chose right by giving Glee the rights to his song for a cover.

Conflicting reports indeed.

Hopefully Prince will make some kind of comment after it airs Tuesday night.

I've heard worse things. Still makes me curl up and die however. She sings like I fucking do! And that's never a good thing. I thought this show was meant to be good? Seems like a karaoke to me. Which I guess is fun to the right people. Horses for courses...

Not feeling it. It's not bad but not great either.

They always cover it exact the same, they never put anything new to it. Boring.

yes, exactly. Exactly the same but with terribly soul-less vocals.

Strange since they are supposedly a vocal group...

Saw the episode tonight. It was a duet of Kiss which sounded too karaoke. Part of the problem, I think was the exact arrangement from the original tune so naturally we'll compare it with the original (can't top Prince's falsetto). Still, good chemistry between Paltrow and Morrison.

I just watched it on youtube. I actually like it. it was kinda hot. almost can't tell the difference between his falsetto and hers and they didn't change the song up very much, but I liked it as a duet especially when you could hear him sing in a deeper voice with her higher voice. I've never watched Glee b4 but I liked thier version of his song.

For TV they do.

I don't think that they do, for that, either. People perform covers on TV all the time and they don't need the artists permission to do so (unless they alter it significantly, making it legally a new composition that interpolates the original one).

I could be wrong. But I don't think I am.

You are wrong.

But hey, aren't you also the guy who claimed that Prince would be handing out free copies of "20Ten Deluxe" at his W2A gigs?

Warners have got ZILCH to do with this. Stop posting lies and bullshit. Warners only control the RECORDINGS, the publishing is controlled by PRINCE. When you want to release a cover of a Prince song, you don’t talk to Warners, you talk to Universal.

Anybody who tells you otherwise is LYING.

The only reason record labels are involved with Glee is for CURRENT songs, because current hit songs are part of a marketing campaign and so Glee must fit into that campaign.

Otherwise, the only people involved are songwriters and the publishing firms who handle their songs.

“Incensed that his song was audible in the background of this family video, that had been viewed by a grand total of 28 family members and friends, Prince instructed Universal Music Publishing Group, his publishers, to file a request with YouTube that the video be removed and Stephanie Lenz be warned about copyright infringement.”

Notice how there is not a single mention of Warners?

http://abcnews.go.com/The...amp;page=1

“mom Stephanie Lenz said she received an e-mail from YouTube informing her that her video had been removed from the site at the request of Universal Music Publishing Group, the recording industry’s largest label, and warning her that future copyright infringements on her part could force the Web site to cancel her account.”

Again: Universal Music Publishing Group, not a single mention of Warners.

It’s in-frikking-credible that nearly 20 years after Prince began his childish “record company did me wrong” fans continue to blame Warner Bros for events where only ONE MAN should be blamed: PRINCE.

But instead of laying the blame where it belongs, they insist on bitching about:
- the record company that poured MILLIONS into Prince’s vanity record labels (which never made a dime),
- the record company that gave Prince complete creative freedom,
- the record company that funded the movie that made him a superstar,
- the record company that destroyed millions of records mere days before they were supposed to be in shops because Prince had a bad XTC trip,
- the record company that didn’t force Prince to deliver all of the required albums in his contract,
- the record company that gave Prince MILLIONS to keep his ass away from the compilation “The Hits/The B-Sides” (which had been delayed repeatedly because Prince kept stalling,
- the record company that gave Prince final say on the “Ultimate” compilation, which meant that ace track “Erotic City” was removed.

Etcetera. Yeah, what bastards those guys at Warners were.

Gorram idiotic Prince fans who still can’t be arsed to look up what “publishing” is on Wikipedia, who still don’t know the difference between a song and a recording, who bitch about someone doing covers of Prince songs while Prince himself does several in concert.
