And to highlight my point in the original post, i ain't gonna hate on that opinion....you seem to agree though as you copied my entire post almost...so i don't really have to do that.

I do have to ask, though, how he knew of that "same s*** he's been releasing since the 90's" since he only has those 3, mostly 80's albums...?

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Lawdy lawdy... to each their own I guess. But it's crazy to me that 20Ten is your favourite Prince album. Yikes!

Cuz I've given compilation after compilation of the 90s stuff to try and say "Hey dude, don't believe the hype, the guy was still cranking out some great music post name change" - Wasn't having a bit of it, didn't like any of it. And I know quite a few people like that, the opinion that "if it was any good, he wouldn't have to give it away free with a tabloid newspaper" was very prevalent both times Prince used that distribution method smile

Less is more.

True too..however I mean by the 'funk' aspect the poster was getting at.

It is funk-oriented along with disco and other themes. That is music to my ears

I wish there was more of it.

Unless you meant it and my cynical mind (too long on the Org) read it the wrong way.

well, not exactly his best of all time, but certainly the best since 3121 (not counting the successful rock/organic experiment of LotusFlow3r) and it's in my personal top15 of all time.

It has everything I want in a Prince album: 10 strong tracks (no filler, and good song order), a funk/rock/electronic sound, SUPERB production, and new classics (FSS, SLG, Lavaux, BE, AoG, Laydown). Also, is the first prince album SINCE Dirty Mind that I usually listen to more than 3 or even 4 times in a row, maybe because the songs are short and catchy.

we need albums like Lotus, but also albums like 3121 or 20Ten...

See Laydown doesn't do it for me at all. I find it rather dull. I'm happy for it be so far back on the album.

The trouble with a lot of his material is that at times it feels like he's doing Prince By Numbers. He's become so competent at churning out songs that he becomes a machine instead of an artist. Only at times mind you.

i think your washer is over loaded there.

(i remember when the washer (top loader) would get out of balance and go "thud thud thud" and I would have to pull out every thing and try to get it to balance. Most of the time it was too many pairs of blue jeans.

The production is very clean cut and there are some real gems there like u said, Lavaux, Sticky, Aog are awesome.

The thing about Lotus was that it was a lot of depth and thought provoking sound into it. Not that it is any better or worse, I only wished he experimented into 20ten as much as he did with Lotus.

Never got into Laydown much for some reason

I llike all of it heart I think Prince constantly changes his output and creates new sounds with each new release. Maybe he put this one out while working on a million other ideas yet to come, just so people who wanted new music got some.

I don't quite agree that its the best ever, but it is really, really good. It definately makes my top 10!! The album is a masterpiece. I do have to agree, I'm spoiled, I want at least 2-3 more songs. I was really hoping for a US release with a couple more songs added. Prince robbed me! But still love that little man, and I ain't complaining...I am just anticipating the next cd. I want some more powerful love songs!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I know, The Dance was the last powerful love song he came out with..been a minute. I mean there have been ballads, but they didnt have any emotion or wit. I really wish to hear something suprisingly soulful like Crucia, Splash, Adonis or Power Fantastic..very emotional unique personal pieces of music.

I know what you meant but you contradicted yourself within the first sentence. The word 'NOT' should have made an appearance.

Anyway, going random momentarily...

'Sticky: My Pants'

PS: For all you Yanks, pants means underwear/briefs/y-fronts and so on. So when Prince sings about taking baths with his pants on it always leaves a funny image in our UK heads. In fact until I learnt about the American usage of the word I actually thought Prince was singing about being in his underwear in the bath. Which isn't at all odd for Prince tbh.

I think if Prince had taken the best songs from Lotus, MPLS and 20ten and put out one album ...you would have quite an album!
