This is not Prince's fault, it is the organizors who did a terrible job in the set of this. I am sad that this has happen! (In my city! I was right there when they told me it was cancelled! It sucks so badly I am glad the director said that their expenses related to this situation will be fully reimbursed. BUT I also hope Prince and Erkah are able to re-schedule something so those who expected to go to this concert will be given the experince. This event is for a good cause

Eye NO something will be said about this! HOPEFULLY, This controversy can be resolved by a statement from Prince's team. I am sure he is highly disappointed this had to go down like this..I AM TOO! I expected it to be great! But somehow I feel it will be resolved in the near future!

it's time for them to do the work! smile The Work Pt. Superbowl! smile lol

One way to soothe some of the hard feelings might be to invite the scholarship recipients to perform at a future show, or maybe jam with him at Paisley Park. If anyone deserves sympathy, the young scholarship winners who thought they would be opening for Prince certainly do:

I don't think Prince is obligated to do anything here, but this fiasco doesn't help his image. I applaud his efforts to recognize various charities in New York at his upcoming show there, assuming he can get back from Dallas in time.

This is almost as bad as missing the we are the world sessions. Another PR nightmare. Don't expect the next album to be any good. Why does he get himself in these situations? Like I understand if he is expecting certain things, but he does not communicate well with the public to give those reasons, thus he looks like an ass.

However I'd say I was spot on from the article you chose to use as factual information -- the investors pulled out, the orgainzers couldn't pay Prince. All of that should have been past-done long before the day of/before the show. The group didn't have its stuff together, its obvious.

Don't be mad because this time you cant berate Prince.

What is your unhealthy obsession with Prince about? Seriously. I don't understand what you stand to lose by someone on the internet speculating. It's odd to me that people feel the need to defend Prince in his absence.

spit falloff MY UNHEALTHY OBSESSION, Dude or Dudette, YOU are on EVERY THREAD, EVERY DAY, several times. I'd say YOU have an unhealthy obsession with Prince. You have tried to attack just about everyone woman on this site, each time they express THEIR opionion if it happens to support Prince.

My opinion was based on what was said, reported and my observations over the last month about that event. It just so happens that I wasn't too far off (at least as far as we know know).

If you wish to spend your life on a website devoted to a musician and spew hatred, that's on you. I chose to appreciate the man and his music for what I see, period. When I don't feel like being with this Prince nonsense, you don't see me here.

Don't forget to takes your MEDS. honey!

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Right?

lol

I appreciate his need to work outside of the system or create a new system or whatever, but if he's going to do that he should at least make sure his system works and he's covering all his bases.

More times than not, it does just reflect badly on him.

Again, this may or may not be his fault, but it is yet another fuck up with his name attached.

the words "Prince" and "cluster fuck" go hand in hand. and I don't even think it was his fault this time.

on the other hand, it would be really cool if he could get some decent, official management to nail down these kinds of details, especially his bread and butter of live performance, instead of people showing up to a VERY expensive show, only to be told at the door that it's been cancelled.

again, i don't think it's his fault. but it is his name on the marquee, and it can't be helped that the negative attention in the press and by the concertgoers is going to be in his direction. thankfully it seems he's getting a pass on this one, since it wasn't his fault. however, he really ought to have someone in his employ that can get their hands around this kind of thing and make it work.

It's Prince's fault that he doesn't have proper management.

It's Prince's fault that he let his name be connected to an event that seems to have been a clusterfuck from day one.

It's Prince's fault that he only backed out of it mere hours before it was supposed to happen.

(Oh, and I'm sick of millionaire popstars playing expensive concerts so they can pretend to be generous and charitable. How about you pump some of your own money into it? And no, giving up your fee isn't good enough.)

Anybody got a idea on the above paragraph???

omg what a nightmare! major cock up.. shit 4 everyone involved. i think all things considered, prince could have done some sort of deal since he was right there on the doorstep... he could have done half a concert 4 half the money or sommink lol set up like a stripped back band with a devil may care attitude, done accoustic, give those fans something

the organisers must have been amateurs & prince's people need a fucking good slap.

As for the cancellation. Bummer for those who travelled. I wouldn't work if I wasn't being paid either. It's the same for sound engineers, and Prince. Strange though that this whole thing happens.

What does Prince's business people have to do with an organization that couldn't pay it's employees? Again, taking such a simplistic take on this is silly...In the past, Prince has indeed fucked up in some of these instances (Croake Parks *sp* comes to mind)....But this one aint the case...By a long shot..

What you don't seem to understand is Prince, just like security, Badu, the union workers, and the light people, was hired by the organization to be a part of the show...And when the money became shakey, there was no show....This is business 101...

Some people seem to be going at Prince because of his past issues...I'm sorry...But I don't care about such things...I just look at the facts that are presented to me...

Canceled show a super mess

Last Updated: 2:16 AM, February 5, 2011

Posted: 2:03 AM, February 5, 2011

Brutal weather in Dallas battered the Super Bowl festivities, but the biggest fiasco was the Prince concert scheduled for last night and canceled at the last minute.

The superstar was due to perform at the Hotel Intercontinental along with Erykah Badu and others, with tickets selling for $1,500 each. But organizers called it off just an hour before it was to start, climaxing a flurry of conflicting statements about the show being canceled, resurrected and canceled again.

"We are extremely disappointed that the organizers, the Meridian Entertainment Group and the River Alexander Group . . . were unable to bring Prince and his band to Dallas on Feb. 4," said Prince's manager, Kiran Sharma, in a statement last night.

"Our understanding is that they lost their investors and were not able to adequately fund and produce the event. Prince was looking forward to performing in support of the Goss-Michael Foundation."

According to sources, the problem started when the River group didn't cover Prince or his band's travel costs or the rental of concert equipment. "They kept saying they'd cover the costs after they had the money from ticket sales, but they never could come up with the cash," said one source.

The foundation, which benefits art education, put out a press release yesterday afternoon saying the concert was canceled, and blamed River Alexander Group for being "unable to fund and produce the evening." A few minutes later, the charity reversed itself, saying, "Circumstances have changed and the event featuring Prince WILL take place . . . Prince has arrived in Dallas and will perform this evening." But at 6:30 last night, a fed-up Prince personally canceled.

A source at concert promoter Black Book told us yesterday the show might have been initially canceled because Prince and his group's flight was delayed by bad weather, but that they made it in time for a sound check. But Prince's rep told us he never made it to Dallas at all.
