Paul Levatino, who works closely with Badu as part of her Badu World team, couldn't offer much more insight, either -- other than to say that the Dallas native tried her best to keep the event going.

"Even when they were saying, 'We're sorry, we're canceling,' Erykah was talking to me, trying to figure out how we could make something happen," Levatino said, indicating that Badu spent a good portion of her own money on the event. He hinted that she may also have contacted a few of her other famous friends in town for Super Bowl weekend, trying to find someone to replace Prince.

"There wasn't really too much opportunity for that, though," Levatino said. "But people were talking. There were a lot of things going on."

A different member of Badu's camp, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that much, indeed, was going on behind the scenes -- albeit on another front. According to the source, Prince and his handlers arrived on the site this afternoon, and that the handlers had scoped the venue out only to find that it wasn't up to their standards.

"Prince never even stepped inside the hotel," the source said.

And that, the source added, was just one of the issues. Sound and lighting engineers hadn't been paid and were refusing to set up their equipment until they got their money. And when they finally did, the hotel -- which, our source says, was also claiming it wasn't paid -- apparently made the final decision to pull the plug and move on.

this is what I'm talking about. Erykah may have wanted to perform, but it sounds like this entire thing was a cluster fuck if the sound and light guys weren't paid by the organizer. sounds to me like the cancellation is on the organizer when even the charity that was benefitting from the show is backing away from them in the days leading up to the show.

You cant really pinpoint the blame on this, though it does sound alot like it was on the organizers and venues, and that Prince may have had issues with playing quite some time before, and not just woke up that day and said "shit im not playing there" I have seen organizers let battles wage on and actually let the artist do a no show, to force them to take blame, i mean lets be real, no one has even heard of these organizers before, so a headline that says "Prince fails to show for a show" is gonna totally be on him even if it was all on them, just for recognition of name

Whether or not it's Prince's fault, once again it's just bad planning regarding a Prince event.

Further proof that Prince needs actual business people to handle his affairs.

'Contract' might mean 'to make smaller' but it might also mean the difference between repeated clusterfucks such as this one with Prince's name attached to them, and actual successful shows, tours, and album sales.

not really just on him though, artists shows get cancelled quite a bit here and there and you just never about it. I do agree that maybe he needs better business heads in place however i dont think Prince is handling the business end, he may talk it, i just think he has made some bad choices in people he puts in charge of things. But looking at ohter artists who constantly are bankrupt and caught for not paying their taxes i think Prince is better off than most. I mean i know it sucks for anyone travelling to the gigs etc...but it happens, shit Adam Ant still owes 60$ for 2 tickets for an acoustic show he cancelled way back in 1995 in NYC.

Even if he's not at fault, it's just one more 'blame game' from him. Everybody else can't be wrong all the time.

This may not be his fault, but it probably could have been avoided if he had people checking and double checking to be sure the whole thing was being handled properly, he and the band had transportation, etc.

By the way, Prince did recently get 'caught' for not paying taxes. There are also several stories of him being sued for not paying for goods and services he's used.

So which is it...confuse

According to "sources close to Prince":

http://www.etonline.com/n..._Canceled/

Organizers never arranged for transportation for him and his band. "Prince is extremely disappointed that the organizers, the Meridian Entertainment Group and the River Alexander Group ... were unable bring him and his band to Dallas," the source said.

Yet according to "other sources":

http://blogs.dallasobserv..._press.php

Prince and his handlers arrived on the site this afternoon, and that the handlers had scoped the venue out only to find that it wasn't up to their standards.

http://www.wfaa.com/enter...05389.html

"Prince has arrived in Dallas and will perform this evening."

Organizers said while Prince's band showed up, the singer was an actual no-show. However, sources said that Prince did show up, but never got out of his vehicle before leaving the hotel all-together in the early evening.

Somebody is lying! Was Prince and/or his band, actually in Dallas last night or not?

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

There was one report that said he showed up, but never got out of his vehicle. I'm sure he pulled up, took one look at the hotel and said 'Oh HELL NAW! Don't they know who I AM?!?'

Whatever the case, wouldn't someone ordinarily have questioned BEFORE the day of an event if nothing was done regarding transportation for the band?

No, because his repeated poor business practices have nothing to do with Egypt, but everything to do with this fiasco.

Nice attempt at saying everyone blames Prince for everything, though.

I just find it funny that he's getting all the blame for something everyone involved contributed to. Even funnier that some ORGers crawled out their caves to post on it. (not you though cause I've never seen your name on anything positive or negative)

giggle I can honestly see that happening because wasn't the event supposed to be somewhere outside but was changed to the hotel at the last minute because of the weather?

When Detroit hosted the Super Bowl, in 2006. I remember hotel space for parties and such being booked completely solid, in and all around Detroit for miles and miles and miles, well in advance of the weekend prior and the rates were astronomical.

So finding and booking a 5 Star Hotel for Prince to perform in, on such short notice, had to be an impossibility.

The Post's story is corroborated by a separate Associated Press report, which cites a "source close to Prince, who spoke on condition of anonymity," and says Prince never came to Dallas, because he was concerned that the disorganization (the organizer's alleged failure to cover travel costs or equipment rental) meant that the venue would not meet his technical requirements.

It's a shame it didn't work out. The InterContinental Hotel has a Crystal Ballroom.

When the light team for the concert refused to work because they didn't get paid, , it's hard to blame Prince in this instance...I know dude has a rep at times, but i think we are all smart enough to see what happened in this particular case...

Right?

I appreciate his need to work outside of the system or create a new system or whatever, but if he's going to do that he should at least make sure his system works and he's covering all his bases.

More times than not, it does just reflect badly on him.

Again, this may or may not be his fault, but it is yet another fuck up with his name attached.

Absolutely! He's still ma boy. However, his name is plastered everywhere regardless if it was his fault or not. As his former manager Alan Leeds would say "That was not a good look."
