I agree with a previous post...it doesn't look good. and while the guitar is covered in gold leaf, why is it being showed on a nasty piece of plywood..ugh!

I'd rather bid on the controversy days fender

Are you writing about the Fender guitar Prince paid $30 USD for at a resale shop in the late 70s? I doubt Prince will ever part with the Fender that is his hitmaker guitar. It's my favorite Prince guitar too and I would love to own it... or just keep it for one day... or just hold it at a concert before he takes it out of my hand to play my favorite Prince song, "Let's Work."

Good cause but it's ugly like all Strats.

I couldn't agree more! the moment i saw P playing one my heart broke! the strat is just about the dullest, most pedestrian looking guitar there is, it's the guitar equivelent of the lada,i nod off just looking at one, THE SHADOWS ANYONE? as for it being 'the ultimate' Prince memorabillia ever??? no way, for me that title goes to the bass played in the 'why you wanna treat me so bad' video, it's the prototype for one of the most iconic guitars ever made, the cloud!!!!....... anyone got Brown Mark's phone number?

I could have picked any PRS (Paul Reed Smith) to be honest. They're nearly all beautiful with some lovely tops to them. Mmm, curly maple...

It's great that the proceeds are going to a good cause, that is most important, Bravo Prince!

If you look at the guitar carefully, Prince WILL NOT be playing this is concert. Why?

If you look at the pick ups, they are not Prince EMG set up and I'm sure he's not going to change what he's be rocking for years. This is just a give away piece that Prince will be associated with in name only.

As part of the live events, Prince will play a solid gold Fender ® Custom Stratocaster® guitar master‐built by Senior Master Builder Yuriy Shishkov. At the end of the run, the guitar will be auctioned off to benefit the Harlem Children’s Zone. The Harlem Children Zone (www.hcz.org) is a community based organization serving over 17,000 children living in Harlem NYC.

Well the marketing insinuates he will play it.

But then again it claims it to be "solid" gold.

Soild gold? that would weight a 100 pounds! Well maybe not that much but it would be too heavy to pick up and play.

I wish Fender would stop b-s'ing and put out a signature P Strat already. I recall P saying back in 2003 or 2004 that Strats really weren't great guitars. But he's held on to his own customs for

quite sometime now.

This is one of the most ugliest strats I`ve ever seen.

I don`t buy a story that Prince requested such guitar.

I`m afraid ti was on a contraryL his management just signed a deal for production of Artist model - and this would be just a prototype

BTW, his strats (those with single in neck and humbucker in bridge) were built by Fender AR-builder Alex Perez.

And no - you could NOT order another guitar by him biggrin

The guitar is actually a Hohner Telecaster, but it has been updated with Fender (toneless) Stratocaster pickups. Prince mentioned how much he paid for the guitar in an interview and I can't find it on the Internet. He could have talked about it on a television show. I'm searching!!!!!

Interesting. Kinda cool even. Not sure I'd ever play it, but it sure would look nice hangin' around the house.

Is it just me, or does it look kind of small? Short neck? I counted the frets, but it still looks a bit off to me.

It looks good, not great. They should have used a different background for the photo. Gold on plywood is not a good look for anything, including this guitar. That said, it's for a great cause. Merry xmas !

I like this guitar. I love the Cloud Guitars.

I always thought the Symbol Guitar and that Star Trek of his guitar looked tacky as all get out.

Gold leaf on a classic guitar played by Prince himself up for auction for a children's charity? I can't see anything wrong with that.

It's a great dream, (idea) with proceeds benefiting the Harlem Children’s Zone, a community organization that serves more than 17,000 children.

This is gold leaf, “It’s thinner than any other finish you would put on a guitar; even lacquer finish is thicker than gold leaf.”

So minimal amount of Gold in reality.

I reckon the most dynamic effect would be as Gold is the most conductive of metals there'd be a different Electro Magnetic field around the whole thing, which could be interesting tonally, or just a bad noise, lol.

Interesting to see the outcome, i.e. how much it sells for, and what it sounds like.

Also whether the gilding comes off on your hand when played.

~PClinuxOS~ yes I've been here longer than I care to remember, ... I drop in from time to time, ... thumbs up!

Wait a minute... would Prince really place his guitar on a cheap piece of plywood like this?? This looks made up and we know Prince would place his guitar on purple velvet or something like that... this looks like it came straight from someone's garage where they spray painted it.
