Blah...Blah...Blah. Boring filler music. Man I used to love hearing a new Prince tune. Now I just get a little depressed.

This ain't no Get Off, When Doves Cry, Little Red Corvette, Kiss, Rasberry Beret or even 7...just to name a few oldies.

I can relate. This new track isn't even that bad, but yesterday night I listened to 20ten for the first time and I think it didn't take me even 20:10 minutes to get through it. Wow, that's really bad and I am not saying this just to get nasty. 20 ten sounds like some kid playing with his guitar and synthezisers in his basement trying to sound like Prince but fucking it up completely.

He really doesn't seem to care what he puts his name under anymore and yeah that's depressing.

HOWEVER when I got the track "Everybody loves me" it hit me. The guy is really just joking, messing around with us, looking to give us a good laugh. This song is so incredibly childish; its composition, production and its lyrics, it's just a total laugh. And I laughed and laughed and laughed. I really couldn't stop laughing.

So I had a great time actually listening to 20ten, however short and depressing it first was. smile

Yea my initial impression is that this song is really bad. This guy is so perplexing to follow because I love love LOVE 20Ten which was released a few short months ago and now this?! It's totally unworthy of being on the same album as the other 20Ten songs. It belongs on the same album that Cause & Effect is on..."Desktop Recycle Bin." The fact he would try to put this out, let alone on the radio as a single, is sort of bizarre. There's just nothing really special about it, and I don't hear anything that really grabs the listener.

I agree that it sounds like a You Will Be Moved/Act Of God kind of prototype but with different sounds to keep it "interesting." But it sort of meanders pointlessly for way too long and then petters out. And the Lil' Wayne imitation at the end is kind of sad. It's pretty fascinating to me that you can love certain Prince songs and then severely dislike others that have all been released within the same year. I mean...the same guy that wrote Future Soul Song wrote THIS? There's such a thing as strangling your muse, and this is like the musical equivalent of stabbing a corpse.

Hmmm.... I like the sound this track has, but it doesn't really have a catchy hook, and the lyrics are bland.

Yes way!!! Granted, the last minute of FSS is okay and is, together with Act of God, the only listenable thing on 20ten, but we all know the truth: he should retire his asssssssssss!

Boring, repetitive song with a lame chorus and the obligatory lame lyrics. It sounds like a rejected B-side from the Batman soundtrack.

Honestly, I'd rather Prince just release a bunch of old songs from his vault than record new stuff. His new work is more painful to sit through than a JW sermon.

Yeah If I had to choose, I am pretty sure i would be sitting through somethin from Leviticus.

He'll get us into the Kindom Halls one way or another. The new music ends the downloading of his music too. I see his game.

My impression:

Prince has gone from his heyday of it being about the (excellent) music to today, where it seems that he uses new music as a pretense for financial ventures that rarely deliver on the promise of a return to excellent music.

So, he leaks new songs from public radio stations and other websites. His website fails to deliver what many of his subscribers were led to believe they were buying. He airs a song while announcing tour dates and referencing his "legendness" and legacy-act status.

The music becomes the gimmick propping up sub-par publicity events.

I miss the days when the music was the prize.

Welcome to the dawn.

This track [ironically] kinda sounds like the theme song for the show "A Different World," lol.

I could barely get through one listen, this song is so utterly tuneless. I'm embarrassed for him, as he apparently has no ability to discern a good song from a bad song. He desperately needs a musician peer that can stand up to him and tell him when his music sucks, before he lets these half-baked, demo-like songs get out to the radio, press, and public, and further dilute his legacy.

It's frustrating for me, because I really do think he still makes great music at times. IMO, he thrives much more with live band arrangements in the studio, rather than with the synths and drum-machines, which tend to sound forced and uninspired coming from him these days.

It makes me think of children's music. It sounds appropriate for a cartoon that teaches children their colors ........................ and recognizing numbers.

Reading the "classic Prince" comments makes it more so.

Welcome to the dawn.

It´s sadly all about ego and money. The lyrics of his songs like this one, go to show for it. Prince values getting paid and being right over getting great music out.

Ain´t no deal with Prince unless you pay him at least a million in advance and let him call all the shots. He feels the internet is dead because he can´t make money that way on there. He tried it with the clubs and lotus, getting paid first and doing whatever pleased him, but obviously you can only con your fans so many times untill they stop joining those kind of money makers.

They say Prince changes his ´creative mind´ every day and that that was the main reason for all the constantly broken promises over the years. We should just accept that and live up to that ´fact´. But that isn´t the case. It isn´t a case of a ´creative genius´s quarks´. Prince is pissed off by justified criticism and if Prince doesn´t get paid, Prince doesn´t release. It´s that simple.

See e.g. the release of 20ten , a turd that cost him probably one week of real work producing it and that could qualify as an insult of his 80´s work. This gets released only in Europe through a newspaper and only AFTER getting paid a million or so. Then he follows up by the END of 2010 with a ´deluxe edition´ for the American suckers among his fans. See also his ´return to form´with Musicology and 3121, sell outs to today´s sound of popular music. See the latest tour with the enormous prices and the concert in Dubai. See the Vegas shows etc.

It´s all about money and a gigantic ego that is never ever willing to admit that its wrong and that is suffering from a terribly devastating drive to make money and have the lifestyle of an Arab prince, a French king or at least an Egyptian pharao.

That´s what drives Prince much more than putting out quality music. He doesn´t care if 20ten is shit. He feels people, especially most of his fans do not deserve better music and he probabaly thinks the music is prety good himself. At least better than much out there, which could in fact be true, but which doesn´t take away from the fact that Prince isn´t Prince anymore and ´the dawn´, whatever he wanted to say with it, but most at least expected a lot of great music, is in fact one great big lie.

.
