It's inexcusable that you parade yourself around being level-headed and reasonable when, in truth, you are under the same kind of blissful haze of consensual reality that a lot of religious people are. Someone you revere (PS Idol worship is against your religious rule) treated someone else in a rude, bratty, and immature manner and you champion this behavior because it is "strange" and "weird" etc. A worthier response would've been to hit this person in the face, ie "kick [their] ass."
Who taught you that you hit people to resolve disagreements? Who taught you gay sex, gay people, gay relationships, or anything else gay is "stupid"? Who taught you that gay men weren't "real men"? Those teachings are wrong. YOU are wrong for holding the conception that gay men are not 100% real men. YOU are wrong for subscribing to gender roles with such a fervor that you would insult and diminish millions of men because YOU think that sexual intercourse denotes masculinity, sanity, worth, etc. I don't "worship" anyone...love, adore, support, etc. Yes. Worship goes to GOD/Jesus alone. Secondly, where have I EVER called gay people strange? Weird? Stupid? Where have I EVER condoned violence? Or suggested Prince should have done that? Have you seen me call any gay man a "queen" or "fairy?" I happen to not believe in homosexuality, but that doesn't mean I hate anyone. Its not for me, but to each its own. I'm not worried about what other people do in their bedroom. We all have to answer to GOD for our sins, who am I to judge? (Obviously this is the real issue, as you and I believe different things) I have simply said, that as a straight women extremely attracted to Prince, that its nice to see these situations. I don't find his behavior childish or rude, I find the photographer rude. Our opinions differ, no big deal. I've never insulted you personally, never would. I apologize if my supporting Prince in his actions have insulted you personally or made you think I'm intolerable... Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Well, thank God he's never done that then...
I wonder what would have happened if, during a dance rehearsal, one of his dancers performed a particular move, Prince referred to it as 'sexy', and the dancer immediately stormed off and out of the rehearsal.

Vogue (From Controversy Magazine)
Ain't talkin' about Madonna's Vogue, this is Vogue magazine, the major fashion magazine which ordered a photo shoot on Prince by noted rock photgrapher Herb Ritts. Ritts has photgraphed Madonna and many others for Rolling Stone magazine covers, so he thought that he was experienced in dealing with rock stars, but was surprised to find that Prince wasn't quite what he expected.
On the other hand, Prince was no prima donna but a professional, a perfect gentleman who was willing to sit for Ritts from 10:00am to 7:30pm with nothing but a mug of herbal tea to sustain him. On the other hand, Ritts found that what Prince is professional at is being a musician and performer, not being a fashion model. When asked to pose, jump and spin for the camera, Prince said that he felt like an idiot when he tried to dance for a photographer, that it didn't feel natural to do it for the camera. They actually got along pretty well except for this little exchange below, whereby Ritts learned not to play up to Prince the way he would one of his models. Prince was asked to stand on top of the baby blue piano:
Prince: Tell me if this makes you want to puke. Ritts: You look sensational Prince: I can change if you want. Ritts: Instead of standing, why don't you perch on the edge of the piano and pretend you're playing the keys with the heels of your yellow shoes? After Prince complied, Ritts continued. Ritts: You look great! You look so sexy! Prince: Burn those negatives (walking off the set in a huff)! TRUE BLUE

My best friend is 100% straight and the org is full of 100% straight men who are complimented by gay men all the time. They are comfortable enough in their own skins to take it for what it is: a compliment. Anyone want to tell them they should be rethinking their sexuality?

daphne, you dont know how it made prince feel. you are only imagining how it made prince feel and assuming it to be a fact.
you're projecting your own thoughts on to this scenario and assuming prince thinks the same way you do.
prince taught an entire generation that sexual harassment is OK.
he influenced people, on how to manipulate a woman into bed, and he did this through his songs and his video clips.
some might even say prince himself is an expert at sexual harassment.
ur either calling him a hypocrite, or there are other reasons he left the room that you havent thought about. I'm not "imaging" anything...in case you forgot, it was another orger who said "herb called Prince sexy, Prince walked out, and said burn the negatives." So someone else made the assumption, I'm just building on it. There could have been more said....maybe Herb came on to him! Who knows!?! But if this was all there is to it, then any intelligent person could draw the conclusions. If it looks like a duck, walk like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it usually is a duck...not always, but usually. I never noticed Prince teaching people about sexual harrassment....I see him expressing his own sexuality and inspiring others to be who they were. And just because he sings about sexual stuff doesn't mean he deservs to be made to feel uncomfortable while working. Prince is really shy, maybe that's why he walked out, but he wouldn't have walked out if he weren't uncomfortable. Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

If this is true, the correct response would have been "thanks, but no thanks." To simply walk off because someone had the audacity to pay a compliment is childish more than anything. And the people agreeing with it are equally childish. =0P Brace yourself

robinhood said: daphne if ur merely speculating then you dont need to defend ur position as if it is a fact darlin.
you got urself in a whole bunch of mess here cuz you arent open to other people's views
relax and listen to what others have to say hun You need to be telling that to all the others who jumped on me yet again for defending Prince. I never said I wasn't open to their views. I didn't even reply to an earlier post of someone calling Prince a homophobe. The problem is that some people tend to a. Take others opinions as a personal insult and therefore feel the need to insult that person (which displays immaturity and a lack of intelligence, not to mention a lack of self confidence). And b. Decide that their opinion is correct and anyone else that differs must be wrong and decide to badger that person like vultures! I'm simply discussing an issue on a forum...that's what is supposed to be done here. I'm defending my opinion, just like everyone else. I didn't create the mess, others did b/c they don't like my supporting Prince (b/c who would support Prince on a Prince fan site? The nerve of that person!) I stated that I supported Prince in him not allowing himself to sexualized by a man...he is a straight man and doesn't want the lines to be crossed. That doesn't make him a homophobe nor does it make me one. So those calling anyone supporting Prince a homophobe is in the wrong....they are taking the stance "I'm straight and only want to be called sexy by the opposite sex" as a personal attack...which is a problem w/ii themselves. Not the person saying. I could see if Prince had said something derrogatory against Herb...thn I could see the outrage. But what's the surprise, as far as what we know...Prince is a straight, religious man...why would anyone think he weren't against certain things? Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

If this is what "Herb R" truly said, then I think both of them did the right thing. At least Herb was upfront with what he was feeling for/about Prince. From there on it was Prince's call.
Herb was putting what he was feeling into words, giving Prince a clue as to maybe what he thought about Prince and wanted. Not like he was trying to become his 'friend' fiirst and then expect/hoping certain things from him. It doesn't matter what we think, more that it was Prince's choice to act on whatever he felt.

This is such bullshit. I do not know any straight African-American man who would want another man calling them sexy. He got up and left and did not want to use the photos.
He did not hit the dude or rant and rave which would be homophobic.
People have a right to like what they like without having the a lable tossed on them.

uhhhwhaaaa? Herb Ritts was known for taking sexy photos. Photographers telling their subjects that they look sexy is incredibly normal. It's often a requested "look". "Give me sexy." Your comment is beyond bizarre. You really think somebody in THAT situation would have punched the photographer?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I'm straight, btw, and while some of y'all are clearly homophobic (whether you realize it or not), some of you aren't. No, some of you are just hateful, sheltered, rude and straight up ignorant! Oh, and you're most definitely NOT sexy. Mm.

OK, I'll tell you what, go to Alabama, Arkansas, or Kentucky and ask that question to any "country" type of man. Then on your way back, stop in Detroit, Philadelphia, or St. Louis and ask the "thug" type of guys that. For best results, take a gay male photographer with you and instruct him to call one of the guys "sexy" and you will have your answer.
And I never said a photographer saying "sexy" wasn't normal. But that doesn't make it right, nor does it mean Prince has to deal with it. And he didn't! Kudos to him! And for the record, I've never seen a male photographer tell another man he was sexy on a shoot that wasn't a "sexy" themed photoshoot. Nowhere have we read that the look requested was sexy. It seems it was about music, not looking sexy. It was for rolling stones after all. Herb Ritz crossed the line, whether intentional or unintentional, Prince didn't like it, and he split! Not really much to debate, just read what happened... Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Helloooo! Not what I asked. I asked about THAT situation SPECIFICALLY. Also, you live in a world of terrible stereotyping. It's kind of sad, really. Don't believe the hype. All people are different, regardless of what you've been told.

OK...since my answer wasn't clear...YES some people would have punched Herb!! Alot of men wouldn't have even worked with him in the first place! Did I say Prince SHOULD have punched him? NOPE!! Prince handled it the best way!
And yes, we live in a world of stereotyping. As displayed on this board...Straight people who don't want someone of the same sex calling them "sexy" = homophobic, close minded, ignorant, childish, blah, blah, blah. Yes, it is sad really! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I don't like the word homophobia because of its focus on the 'irrational fear' of someone's hatred rather than focusing on the hatred itself. Seeing it so deeply engrained everywhere (even up in here, a fan site for a guy who made his career by selling sex) and in so many ways (also within LGBT people, tragically) has desensitized me from caring enough about the reason or rationale for hate to make a special consideration for it more than just describing the hate ... but not to worry; I'm sure most 'real men' could give a fuck about my level of sensitivity toward them, right?
By the way, if you're scared that I can turn you gay then you're probably right.
