I don't know if Prince is as sold out to JW as we think. Prince is always saying one thing and doing another. Take for instance in the song Future Soul Song, he points to a universal understanding of God that stands apart from ' louder than the dogmatic persectution '. All major religions are based somewhere on a dogmatism. It's what puts them at war.

Now, many in here are going to call me an idiot because I am a believer in God and Christ, and I don't want to get into the debate of that, I used to be atheist so I understand all of the criticisms and while I disagree, I respect the view points of atheism. They do not come from ignorant or evil people, but on the same token, people of faith are not brainless either.

With that out of the way, I think it is sad that these beliefs seperate people. I come down harder on my own kind than I do the non-believers on that point. A belief in God should be an out reach of love, not a podium for the vain.

So, does Prince share a strict JW view or does he try to spread a universal understanding of God? Or does he still struggle? Who doesn't struggle? But I see in his music, still a hodge podge of belief. Behind FSS comes the song sticky like glue. Now come on, this is a sexually based song. It can be used by people who are married, people who are in afairs, people of any sexual orientation, so it's a sell to all, not just the boundaries of JW. Lay it Down.... I don't even know on this one.

So would I witness to Prince? To witness is to live what you believe. If you can't live it, you shouldn't be out there testifying by it, because people will know you are not for real. I sometimes don't know if Prince is for real. There are very few people out there that I know personally who are, much less Prince who I only know from his music at a great distance.

Those of you who read this and don't attack me but feel like, thank you.

That's what makes it so stupid. If only 144,000 people will go to Heaven, then who the hell in their right mind would go door to door to people's houses and slim their own chances of going to Heaven. If I believed that, I would be trying to turn everyone else evil instead of good. lol

Which would make YOU evil. OOPS! there goes that idea. biggrin

I hope you're right. For me the problem is not that much about JW (it's not worse than that scientologist nonsense many artists have adopted), it's about his boring religious/mystical lyrics, about him rejecting is sex part.

Prince without the sexual dimension is just awfully boring. I want him to go back to gritty explicit lyrics and sexy funk. I don't want to hear new-age garbage !

actually I sorta agree with that quote. Believing in God doesn't mean you don't have doubts at times. I'm saying if you weigh the evidence the probability is far greater that God exists than not...once you accept that you actually start to realize that faith can be reasonable and rational- sometimes I still catch myself and say "son of a bitch...I actually believe in God. Never thought I'd go there."

you are only parroting what you've been told. the Bible JW's use is one of the better translations out there. There are no impossible transaltions. Yes there's a few scriptures where they choose a less likely (but still possible) reading but there is not one instance where they just make stuff up....same can be said of the NIV and the rest

I guess "1914" wasn't made up? lol

JW beliefs:
1. That Jesus is a created being/a creature.
2. That Jesus is actually Michael the Archangel
3. That Jesus was not resurrected bodily, but as a spirit being.
4. That Jesus returned invisibly in 1914 (secretly to the Organization)
5. That Jesus was only a man when on earth, not the Word Become flesh.
6. That the Holy Spirit is only an active force, not the person of God.

apples and oranges. We were talking about Bible translation- not interpretation. stay on topic. no red herrings please

I would truly loveto share the truth to him, but i'd be so afraid that with his mom being a Jehovah's Witness and being gone several years that my testimony would only hurt him in regards to the teaching that if you don't accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and believe EVERY word written in the King James Version that you cannot be saved by causing him to fear that she's not in the place he wants to believe she's in. We have to be very careful when witnessing to others that it not become a "stumbling block" unto them. I hope this makes sense.

That makes alot of sense!! I see what you mean exactly and I never thought of it that way. How unsettling that can be...

I remember when my sister died, I wondered if she knew Jesus and had accepted him. I can't say for certain, since she never said anything about it, and her actions surely didn't show she excepted Jesus or GOD's word. But I can't let that stop me from believing, or compromising GOD's word. I will forever love my sister and hope she was saved, but maybe she wasn't. That will be up to her to answer to GOD for that and all believers know what happens if you don't accept Jesus. Because NO ONE gets to the father but through the son. So that is why I think it is so important to do missionary work and spread GOD's word!

Good point about Prince though. I'm guessing GOD would reveal a loving way for you to communicate with him. And we must all have faith that GOD will reveal himself to Prince and his truth. And there is only 1 truth...

and what is that "1 truth"?

I'm a Christian. I'm not a JW but JWs are definitely Christians so why does everybody think they need to witness to Prince?

Our family went through a Witness phase.

I always found these items especially confusing.

8. That Heaven's doors is open to only 144,000.
9. That the majority of Witnesses must remain on earth.
10. That salvation is found only through the Organization.
11. That it must be maintained by energetic works for the Organization until the end when one may merit eternal life on a paradise earth.

So basically what the JW teaches is that you must be a JW to get saved. Your chances for getting into heaven are slim but you must be a JW to get there in the first place. And if you don't get into Heaven you will live eternally on earths' paradise but only if you've been a steadfast workerbee for the JW faith.

disbelief Prince would so have been better off being a 7th Day Adventist. Oh well.

I wonder if the JWs have guaranteed Prince entry into Heaven....despite his whoring ways.

Being a Seventh Day Adventist isn't much better, I was raised as one. I watched 4 pastors go against "The Word", the first cheated with a married woman, the second went against "his flock", the third lied to the congregation and cheated on his wife with a married woman he was supposed to be helping, the youth pastor stole from the teens, the next one gave up (he doesn't count), and the most recent is about to give up as well. I watched soo many so called Christians use "the word" to hide behind.

I always thought the idea of "One God" is kinda foolish...

Nawww mann. Once you submit your life to Jesus Christ you don't turn back. You see things through a new light, you live your life for Him. Not for the riches of the earth and short life, but for the glory to His name and the treasures of Heaven.

Prince himself has said "There is only 1 truth..." on that interview w/ Mel. There is no point in really going there, people will always argue it. But to sum it up, GOD's word is the only truth! And I said, I'd discuss things with Prince as I find him quite wise and a deep thinker, and I respect him, so I'd discuss scripture with him, not witness.

You can't be born a Christian! It's not a birthright, it's a personal choice to dedicate your life to Christ. So you were never a Christian...once you dedicate your life to Christ, you become a new person and no one and nothing can pluck you from HIS hand! So you wouldn't become a pagan or anything else. People confuse being a Christian as something traditional or a Sunday thing. It's not...its a way of life that encompasses your entire life, for all eternity! One may fall as we all are sinners, but you hidden with Christ in GOD once you become "bron again."

And just where do the "rules of morality" and all that come from? All of the rules and laws of the land are roughly based on biblical principles! So the idea of GOD is not foolish! Everyone has a different view of what morality is, its all objectional, so the standard has to come from somewhere!

I like how you put loved in quotations. That alone shows to you it wasn't real...so in fact, according to the Bible (and what else can we judge a Christian by?) you weren't a Christian at all. Love doesn't end...but that point is objectional of course. I'm not judging you or the choices you made, I'm just saying that you can't be BORN a Christian, just like you can't be born an atheist, muslim, etc. Religion isn't like being born male/female, black/white. It's a choice that one makes.. Christianity isn't just about GOD, it's about Jesus. So I think your viewpoint of what a Christian is has been distorted like so many others...

And regardless of what you or I preach, the truth is what it is. And one day we will all see! (So even if you don't "think" GOD should rule everything, the fact that he does is whats more important and relevant...a point of course that again is objectional) And while loving and respecting your fellow man is right and necessary, to say that's all you need is ridiculous since it has little to do with what happens after we die...something we all have to deal with.

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

(So even if you don't "think" GOD should rule everything, the fact that he does is whats more important and relevant...a point of course that again is objectional) And while loving and respecting your fellow man is right and necessary, to say that's all you need is ridiculous since it has little to do with what happens after we die...something we all have to deal with.

cheers to Daphne

Nawww mann. Once you submit your life to Jesus Christ you don't turn back. You see things through a new light, you live your life for Him. Not for the riches of the earth and short life, but for the glory to His name and the treasures of Heaven.

Dude, I was born a Christian, baptized and all, and I became Pagan!! "God" ain't that good, especially over good dick...or in Prince's case, pussy wink Man needs ot get a clue and drop JW, it's as bad as Scientology!

You were never a Christian deary. Don't kid yourself (or us). In truth infant baptism is pointless because a baby isn't able to put faith in Jesus yet. I repeat you were never truly a Christian...

The best thing to do is follow morality, respectability, honesty, and intelligence.

And just where do the "rules of morality" and all that come from? All of the rules and laws of the land are roughly based on biblical principles! So the idea of GOD is not foolish! Everyone has a different view of what morality is, its all objectional, so the standard has to come from somewhere!

cheers again. methinks Daphne may be "on the road leading off to life" (Matt. 7:14)

and what is that "1 truth"?

I'm a Christian. I'm not a JW but JWs are definitely Christians so why does everybody think they need to witness to Prince?

Prince himself has said "There is only 1 truth..." on that interview w/ Mel. There is no point in really going there, people will always argue it. But to sum it up, GOD's word is the only truth! And I said, I'd discuss things with Prince as I find him quite wise and a deep thinker, and I respect him, so I'd discuss scripture with him, not witness.

Well we agree on this..."Jesus said to him: 'I am the way and the truth and the life'..." (John 14:6). I just said what I said because I consider myself an expert on JWs and many of us Christians accuse them of not being Christian just because they have some erroneous beliefs. All organized "sects" of Christianity are wrong about something. All the ones that think their one brand is the only truth are mostly likely wrong too...but that's humans for ya...

No, JWs don't believe in the Trinity, and, honestly, I think a strong argument could be made either way but it's not essential to being a Christian. JWs do believe Jesus was the "Son of God" and if you read 1 John 4:15 you see they meet "Christian" criteria

That's like asking 'If you have gas, would you fart in front of Prince?'

While not the same question, the reaction from Prince would be the same to either of these.

You'd only embarrass yourself and annoy Prince.
