I find these topics to be hilarious. It always seam like the latest fashion is always to hate on the newest release.. calling it the worst ever. But what ever.

Favorite...

- Lovesexy

- Sign O the Times

- The Gold Experience

honorable mentions to 1999, 3121 and Purple Rain

I've not listened to an Album by Prince (excluding instrumentals) where there weren't a couple tracks I really enjoyed. But these albums either sucked as a whole... or had multiple tracks I truly detest.

Least favorites...

- Graffitti Bridge

- Planet Earth

- The Rainbow Children

Not so my big friend. I tend to enjoy at least a few tracks from most, if not all of his releases. This was the first time I couldn't find a 10/10 track on his latest release - hence the my curosity about what's at either end of peoples p album spectrum.

I'm 39 and been a hard core fan since '86. I consider that I got to the party really late.

20then is imo his worst (sorry, my 'least favourite' lol ) album and I ain't hating 'cos it's fashionable to do so.

Right, it's nothing to do with 'being fashionable', at least for me. The truth is that 20Ten is a really lazy album! The production is dire; the drums sound toooo dry and the quality of some of the samples is awful. The real problem is that many of the songs use the exact same sounds, which make it a very boring album. There's just not enough diversity in the sounds!

Aside from that, the songwriting is weak and some of the lyrics really go through me! Lotusflower was a MUCH better album and I liked that from the start. That album suffers from being too loud though!

Shocked at the lack of love for 3121 and 20ten!!!!

I personally felt that 20ten is much better than planet earth.....PE just rubs me wrong on about every track...."future love song" blows everything out of the water on PE

no love for musicology? what about "call me name" ? that song is just awesome.....

Hell no!

PE is one his best post 00's albums. The title track, The One U Wanna C, All The Midnights, Chelsea Rodgers, Guitar - all great tracks!

Although I do agree that Future Soul Song is probably better than anything on any of his last few albums. That is a truly special track.

My favorite: 1999. For years it was Purple Rain because it introduced me to Prince. But 1999 is the funk album by which I judge all other funk AND electronic rock music AND hot steamy sex ballads AND the list goes on.

My least favorite: Newpower Soul. The album bored me. He *sounded* bored. Some of the songs were just rehashes. It was one of the first times I put on a Prince album and nothing grabbed me.

Even my 2nd least favorite.. Chaos & Disorder.. the anger of the project drew me in and it had a couple nice jams.. the title track, Dinner With Delores and Zanalee I liked. NPS only had "The One" and "Wasted Kisses" that intrigued me. Coming after all the rebirth on "Emancipation" it was disappointing.

This is why it's all a matter of personal opinion on likes/dislikes. I like a few tracks on PE but would throw in in the stack of albums on my least favorite pile. 20Ten I would throw in the upper half. To some it may sound "lazy" but to me it sounds like he's having more fun when he's not trying so hard to make a grand statement. On PE, the title track kills the mood for me before the party ever gets started. I'm still very much about the sequence. True 20Ten has a lot of similar sounding songs but so did MPLS, one I'd throw in my lower half. To me it sound sounds like MPLSound is trying to hard on stuff like Chocolate Box. But 20Ten stuff like Sticky Like Glue reminds me of things like Dorothy Parker.. like hey.. I just took a bubble bath, with my pants on.. I'm gonna write a song about it. Not "I want to write a nasty funk song. Wait, nasty funk requires me to talk about sex.I can't, that's a no-no.. "Dancy-dance dance cuz it's hot when you dance.. evrybody funk and lets dance dance dance..." that's how it feels to me. On the other hand I like Lotusflow3r cuz at least he's like "let's see where this vibe goes" with the rock sound.

It's all in what elements we dont like or do like... with prince there's so many to choose from.

Best: Purple Rain. How could anyone say differently?

Worst: C-Note. There's a reason no one's heard of it.

Com'on 20Ten is far from that bad:

haven't you heard Kamasutra, NEWS, Xpectations, One Nite Alone Piano, Newpower Soul, Rave??

I would take NEWS, Xpectation, and One Nite Alone Piano over 20ten anyday. I suppose that is why I like Walk In Sand so much. It could have fit on One Nite Alone perfectly.

I love NEWS, Xpectation AND ONA piano! I haven't heard 20ten yet so I can't say.

Worst: 20ten (Even worse than news)

I'm starting to think of 20ten almost as more of an EP than an LP though. Don't really consider the Kamasutra a legit album for something like this.

While we're hitting some rankings. Here we go:

For You (5)

Prince (6)

Dirty Mind (8)

Controversy (7)

1999 (10)

Purple Rain (10)

ATWIAD (8)

Parade (8)

SOTT (10)

Lovesexy (6)

Black Album (6)

Batman (8)

Graffiti Bridge (4)

Diamonds and Pearls (7)

Symbol (6)

Come (8)

Exodus (4)

Chaos and Disorder (5)

Gold Exp (7)

Emancipation (4)

The Truth (5)

New Power Soul (7)

The Vault (5)

Rave (5)

Rainbow Children (4)

One Nite Alone (7)

NEWS (3)

Slaughterhouse (5)

Chocolate Invasion (5)

Musicology (5)

3121 (8)

Planet Earth (5)

LotusFlower (2)

MPLSound (3)

20ten (0)

Interesting. You put LotusFlower at a 2, but Mplsound at a 3. I didn't even think Mplsound was a real album compared to the rest. To me seems so cold and effortless like NewPowerSoul- which you gave a 7...wow?

Please don't take this wrong, but what is it about NPS that was so appealing to you?

Best:

1999/Purple Rain... what he's most famous for

Worst:

Indigo Nights/Planet Earth... I still like most of these albums but the songs I don't like are overwhelmingly awful to me.
