Wow you really said that!!!??? You have gotta be kidding...right??? Did you say this because he is Black and it is a real problem for you that he is??? Would it make a difference if he were green or better yet purple??? Prince can be on any magazine it doesn't matter. But as soon as he is identified as a Blackman oooohhh no let's not have that....now he's got something against white magazines!!

Your statement was a reaction without any forethought....

Perhaps I should have put it another way!!!! How about a really IN DEPTH interview in a SERIOUS music magazine like Mojo, Q, Rolling Stone, Uncut, Word magazine, etc.????

Ebony and Jet are, to a certain extent, very tabloidy and in the same vein as the National Enquirer and US Weekly!!!

eek You obviously have never bought a copy of either of those magazines.

When I was growing up and buying magazines like "Right On", "Black Beat", "Rock and Soul", etc., which by the way were THE magazines that promoted Prince back in the day, I bought "Ebony" and "Jet" a few times but not too often because I didn't find them very interesting. They seemed to be the more "grown up", "more serious", or "elite" magazines since they featured articles on people other than singers or actors (which didn't interest a teenager like me at the time).

That's why I absolutely couldn't believe my eyes when I saw those two magazines compared to "The Enquirer". I haven't bought a copy of "Ebony" or "Jet" in years but I seriously doubt that they have stooped to the level of being like "The Enquirer".

...and you are right, Andy; they have not. They are having some of the same issues as other print media, but so far they are maintaining and to suggest that they are like the Enquirer is just insulting!

White magazines? Quite ignorant to call the majority of the magazines that arent ebony which is blatently aimed at african-americans WHITE magazines.

While I disagree with the Desdire2006's ignorant assertions about Prince and Ebony/Jet magazines, I think there is truth in the description of the other mags as largely white. Have you really taken a look at the magazine/news stands lately?

When I was looking for the Prince Ebony issue, I took a moment and just looked at the sea of magazines with nothing but white faces on them in each store that I went to - Target, Borders, Walgreens, CVS, etc. The only mags that had non-whties on the cover or as features where Ebony, Jet, Latina, Sister 2 Sister, Oprah and a few other "niche" publications. People was the only mainstream (white) magazine that had a non-whtie on the cover, and it was Gary Coleman because he just died. Non-whites are rarely featured on covers of white magazines unless they are Beyonce/Halle/Wil Smith types, which are very few.

uh O Magazine is not 'black' Oprah transends that. It's a women's magazine, not a black magazine. This does happen. As black as James Baldwin is, his writings, even the ones that deal with race, are not catagorized as 'black'. If I go to Borders Books James Baldwin is found in a general section of authors. And that's cool.

Well considering I work for what you would label a "white magazine" I am a young woman of colour who sees that the images behind what you see are largely put together with white and black people and asian people etc

But I do agree those magazines dont put black people enough on magazines but its a growing progress. But its not fair to label it white magazine I think its stupid and ridiculous.

Kind of reminds me of the outfit in the Chelsea Rodgers video. He looks good in all black.
