No offense, but I would have said something to you regardless of what song it was, if the volume was too high.
You do that? Never in my life have I told anyone in a car in the middle of the day to turn the volume down. Or in the night for that matter. [Edited 5/26/10 21:34pm]

Sorry y'all...if it's too loud..you're too old. lol

I'm sorry, I dont agree with almost anyone here, but being the owner of a 1000w+ install in my car and indeed liking it loud myself, Its just through common decency and respect that when stopped at lights and in built up areas, car parks etc when going slow, i ALWAYS turn down whatever I'm listening to. Its just good manners. Thats how my parents brought me up.

I dont bother arguing or requesting people turn down their music if i deem its too loud when I'm sitting at the lights next to them, i just lean on the horn. They get the message.

I dont want to listen to other peoples "taste" in music playing way too loud, and i feel i shouldnt do the same to others either.

Enjoy...

My stero is whatever came in the car so it is never that loud anyway. But there are 2 schools of thought on turning it up loud:

1) for others: show offs or shock value

2) for themselves: some songs need to be loud and they just sound better with the windows down.

i am a 2.

I'm sure everyone doesn't want to hear what I'm blasting but its my car. Someone earlier said we get caught in the music and that is the truth!! I spent money on getting good speakers so my music can sound better. At night rolling thru neighborhoods I'll turn it down but during the day, blast away (certain things during the day will make me turn it down though). I think if it really bothers you to hear loud music, roll your windows up. That's what people do in my neck of the woods.

Ah, yes - the Entitled Generation. "I get to do what I want, whenever I want. Fuck everyone else."

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Uninterestingly, over the years, i've had a little bit to do with car audio even involved in building installs for SPL comps (where you strip out most of the car and replace it with big ass woofers and enclosures and the loudest guy wins SPL standing for Sound Pressure Level) and SQ comps (where SQ stands for Sound Quality judged by professionals in the industry)

And i can say without any doubt, music sounds/stereos works better with the windows up. There isnt an SQ comp in the world where the windows are wound down. In SPL the P standing for pressure, when windows are down, the pressure caused by the bass is lost when the windows down.

It may have more to do with your car stereo distorting at the higher levels as you said it is a standard system and to you it "sounds" better because you can hear less of the distortion from overdriving your very low powered amps/speakers. So just turn it down a little and keep the windows up, you're doing yourself and everyone else around you a favour. Oh and yes, many stock systems in cars today are totally capable of anoying people pulled up net to you.

So today I'm driving home from work have the windows open and the roof open blasting "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man." Beautiful dav. This obviously disturbed woman pulls alongside side me and asks me to listen to hear. "Turn that down. NOBODY wants to hear that!" she yells. Of course I turned it up. Take about bitter people with no taste!

You shoulda yelled, I see why your man left you with a baby and another one on the way.

I always have my windows rolled up. When someone really makes it loud I can hear it through the windows.

U should have played "Billy Jack Bitch" next and proceeded to drive behind her for the next 2 miles.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

There was some story on CNN a little while back about a young black kid who got fined for playing rap music too loud in his car. He actually went to court and the judge gave him an option of paying a fine or being forced to listen to classical music for a period of 72 hours, or something like that. The kid chose to listen to classical music. The judge's rationale was that people on the street don't want to be forced to listen to rap music, so you will be punished by listening to classical. Sure, I get his point, but isn't that a bit musicist (if not racist)? Suppose the kid was blasting classical music through a suped-up car system? You know... blasting some Gustav Mahler #3 or some shit. I'd bet you $1,000 that the judge wouldn't then force that kid to listen to rap for 72 hours.

They made the kid listen to Barry Manilow, who by the way is a fantastic talent, for a few hours. That is not a punishment that is a good time!I mean if you broke the law and the judge said "Oh you have to listen to three days worth of this popular artist as your punishment." would you take him seriously?
