I'd add that i keep reading here that Emancipation should have been a single CD with the "best" 12 songs, but if it had been released as such, the same people who say so are those who shout "open the Vault's gates" and would have been the 1st to buy bootlegs with the outtakes and to claim "it's such a pity that these songs were left out!" lol

We keep aksing for MORE music and complaining about Prince keeping all this Vault material for himself, so weither we like a release or not, of all things how can we complain about him releasing TOO MUCH material? falloff

here's the thing. I want both. I want tight, top-notch albums with only the best material on them. but in the internet age, there is no reason why he can't put out these strays of the world that no longer have a home and never will. hell, one a month. 6 a year. whatever.

omg! i just got this on dvd heart

but the chaos album was some of the 1st prince i heard so i've got a soft spot 4 this one, in a class all of it's own
anyway he was so buff back then & his hair was perfect (except the ginger highlights episode)
but i wouldn't associate this album with emancipation. to me chalk & cheeze!even with all those songs/3cd, there aren't many i like really. i could just pull out enough to make 1 disc
anyway he was too passive & loved up during emancipation, i preferred the chaos when he was all pent up & tetchy with a filthy glint in his eye

cool cool

the album and era in this instance are 2 different things. As you all have noted the music doesn't fit the music from Emancipation. But the timing of era:Slave and last release from WB into his "emancipation" does fit. The look fits and songs from Chaos & Disorder are performed in conjunction with Emancipation

Dinner with Delores 6.12.1996 Chaos & Disorder AlbumPermalink

Dinner With Delores

Dinner with Delores must be some kind of sin
Like a brontosaurus, she was packin' it in
The first night we dined and by the next time
This girl was eatin' all but the tip
And by the stroke of midnight she wanted some more (more)
Showin' dirty movies like some kind of whore
But she was wastin' her time now cuz there wasn't a line
That would make me come 'round her door

Dinner with Delores must be some kind of sin
Her bell's just a-broken (bell's just broken) since 1984
(Dancin') Dancin' like a white girl (white girl) on disco dirty floors

Damn Delores, pick another subject please
Introduce the carpet 2 somethin' other than your knees
Like a real confession, no one could be more made up than U
Nothing's left 4 guessin' - what a shame, boo hoo

Delores {x2}

I'd call U a friend, but it must be a sin
And I've run out of cheeks 2 turn
Dinner with Delores
No more, that's the end
Delores

Video Shoot
The Same December

The Same December

Once was this ball with a line straight down the middle
One side was black and the other one white
And they both understood so little
That they spent their whole lives tryin' 2 tell each other what time it was
When all along it did not matter what either said because, because

CHORUS:
U only know what U know
U only see what your heart will show
U only love when your soul remembers
We all come from the same December
And in the end, that's where we'll go
So let's go!

Ooh yeah, oh yeah

There once was a golden idol that went 2 the winners
Needless 2 say it didn't make 'em feel any less a sinner
Cuz the very next mornin' the whole damn world was the same
Yes it was
The idol still shinin', but the voice inside it said
"There ain't no winners in this game"

CHORUS

Hey!

There once was an angel who most certainly watched over me
But if it got me through the day, is it crazy?
Yeah, I'll be crazy

Until the demons fall as far as anyone can fall
When they reap what they done sowed, I'll be standin' tall
We spend our whole lives tryin' 2 dog the other man
When what we need 2 do is try 2 give him all we can

But uh.. U only know what U know
And uh.. U only see what your heart'll show
And uh.. U only love when your soul remembers
We all come from the same December
And in the end, that's where we'll go
So let's go!

Let's go

In This Bed I Scream

song dedicated 2 Wendy & Lisa
2 these walls I talk
Tellin' 'em what I wasn't strong enough 2 say
2 these walls I talk
Tellin' 'em how I cried the day U went away

How do we ever lose communication?
How do we ever lose each other's sound?
Baby, if U wanna, we can fix the situation
Maybe we can stop the rain from coming down

Yeah

In this bed I scream
Lonely nights I lay awake thinking of U
And if I'm cursed with a dream
A thousand times I feel whatever I've put U through

Tell me, how're we gonna put this back 2gether?
How're we gonna think with the same mind?
Knowing all along that life is so much better
Living and loving 2gether all the time

Living and loving

In this bed I, in this bed I, in this bed I scream

In this car I drive
I'm looking 4 the road that leads back 2 the soul we shared
With my very life
I'd gladly be the body upon the cross we bear (Cross we bear)

How do we ever lose communication? (How did we?)
How do we ever lose each other's sound? (I don't know)
Baby, if U wanna, we can fix the situation
Maybe we can stop the rain from coming down

Maybe we can't, maybe we can
Stop the rain, stop the rain

In this bed I, in this bed I, in this bed I scream
I scream

In this bed I scream

Chaos And Disorder (: 1996)
After much public feuding with Warner Bros, he agreed to deliver them one more new studio album, and promptly knocked this out over a long weekend. While the production doesn't sound rushed, the tunes seem like he made them up on the spot: routine funk like "Dig U Better Dead" and "I Rock, Therefore I Am" is prolonged by boring guest rappers; "Dinner With Delores" recycles "Money Don't Matter 2Night"'s pop sound; "Zannalee," the most enjoyable track on the CD, is just an uptempo blues. Lyrically too, it's all reruns. The silver lining is that, under pressure to create excitement quickly, he falls back on the exquisite lead guitar playing that he often displays in concert but has rarely recorded; the otherwise generic rocker "I Like It There" and ballad "I Will" benefit from this treatment. Michael Bland's drumming is also spotlighted more than on earlier releases. Still, Prince is capable of so much better that you'd have to be a completist to want this. (DBW)

Emancipation (: 1996)
A 36-song, three-hour set, and I've lowered the rating half a star because the sheer amount of music here will overwhelm most non-fans. But taken in proper doses, it's terrific: His newlywed status made him more romantic than ever, with several of the best ballads he's ever written ("One Kiss At A Time," "Let's Have A Baby," "Dreamin' About U") plus the smile-inducing "Sex In The Summer." Vocally he's at his peak, musically he's overflowing with ideas, and the genre-mixing is more focused than usual: "Joint 2 Joint" uses everything from tap dance to a slap bass trio as it deconstructs the singles scene; "Damned If I Do" switches effortlessly from pop-rock to plugged-in Latin jazz; "In This Bed I Scream" segues from a lovely melodic vocal to an atonal distorted guitar jam. All his experiments work this time around (including big band swing on "Courtin' Time"), the only problems come when he plays it safe: there's too much uptempo funk rehashing "Partyman" ("Mr. Happy," "Get Yo Groove On"), too many Babyface-sounding slow jams ("Somebody's Somebody"), plus four covers of which only "Betcha By Golly Wow" was really worth the trouble. Lyrically, he's still very self-absorbed, with plenty of tracks complaining about his treatment by the music industry ("White Mansion," "Slave") and the media ("Face Down"). But you've got to give it up for anybody who can make a melodic chorus out of "www.emale.com" - twenty albums under his belt and more inventive than ever. (DBW)

I remember him lypsynching "Emancipation" at the brits. Why do a non-single song at an event as big as that (in the UK) is beyond me? Seem to remember it was arranged abit differently to the album version but a shame he mimed it though.

Released January 13, 1997

The Holy River
Let's go down 2 the holy river
If we drown then we'll be delivered

U can still see the picture upon the wall
One eye staring at nothing at all
The other one trying 2 focus through all your tears
U can try and try but there's nothin' 2 hide
U can't run from yourself and what's inside
U got 2 find the answers 2 the questions that U most fear

So over and over U ask your soul
Why'd U come down 2 a world so cold?
And the voice inside says 2night the truth will be told

U surrounded yourself with all the wrong faces
Spending your time in all the wrong places
Puttin' your faith in things that only make U cry
People say they love U when they wanna help
But how can they when U can't help yourself?
The more they say they love U, the more U just wanna die
So here we go again, the self analysis
Have another glass of Port and uh.. forget this
The band's playin' at the club 2night and they're bound 2 groove

There U are, U think U're high
U can't ask yourself cuz U'd only lie
If U had a dollar 4 every time U tried

U can't call nobody cuz they'll tell U straight up
Come and make love when U really hate 'em
Relationships based on the physical are over and done
They're over and done (They're over and done)
U'd rather have fun
With only one, with only one
Only one... one (one)

And then it hit 'cha like a fist on a wall
Who gave U life when there was none at all?
Who gave the sun permission 2 rise up everyday? (Ooh, oh yes)
Let me tell it (Go'n)
If U ask God 2 love U longer
Every breath U take will make U stronger
Keepin' U happy (happy) and proud 2 call His name (Go'n and say it)
Jesus (Jesus)

And over and over U ask your soul
Why'd U come down 2 a world so cold?
And the voice inside said 2night the truth will be told
And this time I was listening, hear me

Let's go down 2 the holy river
If we drown then we'll be delivered (Yes we will)
If we don't then we'll never see the light (No)
If U die before U try
U'll have 2 come back and face the light (Oh yes)
When U believe it, U got a good reason 2 cry (Oh my, my)

So I went on down 2 the holy river
I called my girl and told her I had something 2 give her
I asked her 2 marry me and she said yes, I cried
Oh, that night I drowned in her tears and mine
And.. and instead of a glass of sorrow and wine
Looking back y'all, I don't miss nothing except the time
And when I see that picture upon the wall
The one eye staring at nothing at all
My eyes trying 2 focus but these are much different tears
Oh, yes they are
Let's go down 2 the holy river {x3}

The Holy River" is a song from Prince's (his stage name at that time being an unpronounceable symbol, see cover art) 1996 album, Emancipation.[1]

The song is pop/rock-based number that tells the story of spiritual enlightenment and of Prince's decision to marry Mayte Garcia. The mid-tempo number is based around a guitar melody without a chorus. The song climaxes in a searing guitar solo.

The UK CD single was released as a two separate discs which fit in a double jewel case that was included with the first disc. Both discs had different picture sleeves and different contents, other than a "radio edit" of "The Holy River" and edit of "Somebody's Somebody" (also from Emancipation). Disc one also included two remixes of "Somebody's Somebody": a "Livestudio Mix" and an "Ultrafantasy Edit". Both were mostly re-recorded versions of the song with additional lyrics. Disc 2 included the previously released "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World (Mustang Mix)" and a one-minute commercial called "On Sale Now!". The UK cassette single was the same as disc 2, but without "On Sale Now".

A US promotional release was sent to Pop radio stations at the same time as "Somebody's Somebody" was sent to Urban radio stations, it was also made available to consumers for free, and only through book chain, Borders Music. It was a cassette single with the previously unreleased "Welcome 2 the Dawn", advertised as being from the upcoming album The Dawn. In reality, the song was later released on The Truth. A music video for the single was produced

I think ITBIS is one of the best tracks from E. I think it should have been released as a single with one killer video. I truly appreciate all the material Prince has given to us - the fans. He's truly an entertainer, a creator, a musical genious!
