At this point, Maxwell IS a better vocalist than Prince. ----- Maxwell is a better vocalist because he is on point all the time and sometimes P is not. However, Maxwell is not in P's universe as a musical force and I don't think he ever will be just because of the music industry and how it has changed from the 80's. In addtion, Maxwell really does not have the crossover appeal that P had in his day or even now when you go to P concerts you see such a cross section of races. | |

You can think P is better but dont hate on Max. He has a beautiful voice and sings with real soul unlike alotta crap out rite now. I dont think he's better but vocally he's awesome April usually brings showers

Hey people!
Can't u just understand one minute... Prince is of this breed of artist that we have the impression that they comes from another planet ... so they are unique and irreplaceable (The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Ray Charles, Queen, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson ...) I read everything and anything... & we are supposed to know Prince's music !? The comparison does not exist... because Prince is comparable to anyone else ... Can't u just understand that ? His voice, his personality and his music is unlike anyone else... anyone else but him. He's not "better" (That's just stupid & that means nothing at all) than this or better than that... he his just Prince... & that's enought ! Yes, technically there r plenty of better singers than him (including Maxwell), full of best bass players, full of best guitarists, full of finest pianists ... etc etc etc ... But ..... there is only one Prince. It's not a question of versatility as some say ... it's more than that... Again, Prince is unique ... that's why he is above the others ... that's why he is considered one of the last living legend of pop music...  I'll die in your arms under the cherry moon... | |

No competition, no compairision... Never understood why somany prince fans think he is a great vocalist, just because of his falsetto. Falsetto is not real singing in the first place... IMO, Prince's falsetto is annoying (he sounds like he tries to emulate a female) and he just lacks soul. I want a black singer to sound BLACK. and Soulful. And his natural voice is very for poor a black singer. I can name hundreds of black singers who can sing better than Prince. That's why prince never made a decent slow track with his natural voice. It just doesn't work... On Slow love, he just sounds awful... Nothing special... Maxwell could outperform him anytime anyday... Prince seems only concerned of hitting the highest notes possible and yelling. I hate that... Prince's voice is nothing special when he doesn't use falsetto. Absolutely nothing. But hey, ask to black people, who's the best vocalist between Maxwell and prince,they all gonna say Maxwell. | |

I like Prince's vocals on CD.
He's not a great singer, but that's not really why anyone would listen to Prince anyways. But live, he can be very VERY hit or miss. He veers between o.k. to pretty bad. But then again, that's not why anyone would see him live either. 
Maxwell is just a better all around singer than Prince. It's most obvious when you hear either of them live. That being said, some of Maxwell's ballads sound just downright derivative and paint-by-numbers bumped up against If I was Ur Girlfriend and various other Prince ballads. | |

I'm sorry but I have to say that Maxwell has his own style and I don't think he is trying to copy P's style.There are many artist that sing in that falsetto voice.Prince is my fav, but I still listen and buy Maxwell's CD's too.As a matter of fact I am going to see him for the 1st time in concert May 29th.I like his old stuff Fortunate, When the cops come knockin" etc.The new Cd Fistful of tears is my jam tho'. Prince can go from doing a song in a low rough shout to another song in a high falsetto, and was measured by one magazine as having one of the top ranges of low to high in pop music.
