Yes. There's a few tracks on there I like. But the single "3121", he played it live in different versions during 2006. Sounds fantastic live. The fans who were there at the shows I attended, loved it.

If "save" is another word for "Destroy" then yes.
But didnt he lose his child a couple of years before Larry came into the picture?
regardless...Ive heard NOTHING positive, nor seen ANYTHING positive from Larry's influence.
To me, it took a lot away from Prince's character. Prince was always a leader. He never followed. You tell him to go right, he goes left. Remember the song, The Max? "They tell me to walk a straight line, I put on crooked shoes"
Then Larry comes along, and its like Prince cant function without the guy. Sad, very sad.

I wont say he saved his life cuz Prince was not near death or even suicidal. He just gave him another "out" for his energy and pointed him in another direction when he asked "why did this happen to me?". Consider that just because someone comes into your life it does not mean they are there to stay. So the next question is....

Has Larry served his purpose or is Prince still in need of help?

That would have been so damn lame.

No one can say would what have happened for sure, but I'm not so sure I'd change the whole Larry thing.

I think it's time to give Larry a break. I know some of you are gonna be snarky about this, because you simply can't help yourself and you probably have a soft spot for stard who burn out quick (pick one) or stars who tried to keep the "edge" they had well into old age (pathetic Madonna), but I kinda like the person Prince is now, and Larry had a lot to do with it.

Bwahahahaha. Dude, Prince himself doesn't think this. How many times do I need to point out that Prince himself can't be arsed to promote his oh so great new songs? How many times do I need to point out that he can't be arsed to play them live?

actually he played a lot of 3121 in London o-2, more then Planet Earth which was just released, which is kinda strange. So at least he must think that 3121 is better then Planet Earth, but then, i think everybody knows that! smile

Has Larry served his purpose or is Prince still in need of help?

In this matter, I agree with Bart: who say Prince was "in need of help" in the first place??

From the Notorious article, Larry Graham made Prince into religious discussions and a member of Jehovah Witness.

Is this so bad then? YES it is..... imo JW is a fanatic right-wing conservative sect. Nothing to be grateful for.

I don't believe Prince "is in need of help", he never was. Like Bart said the baby death was in 1996 and what happened to Prince, the JW thing was years later, in 1998/99. Prince was able to live his life without Jehovah, until Larry came around and sadly converted him to this sect.

Larry did not "save Prince's life" like this thread suggest... Larry brought changes to Prince yes, but for the worse, not for the good.

It is not just only "a matter of swearing", wink

Prince was imo. offenssive in many ways, in the 1980s, and early 1990s, a 'danger' to society, in opposition, from "Sister" 1980 to "Pussy Control" in 1995, but the changes in the late 1990s made him a conservative,

but of course if you are a right-wing conservative yourself, you can't see how bad this is.

I'm a liberal, I consider myself free thinking / open minded, I can appreciate "Sister", "Head", "Sexy Motherfucker", and "Pussy Control"... those songs represent what I like most about Prince: the offenssive and challenging artist.

I can't stand Larry, all he did to Prince was bad.....imo.

I saw Larry opening to Prince's concert in 1998, Valby Hallen, Copenhagen Denmark. Larry is a excellent musician I agree, but his music, Everyday People, Thank You (For Lettin Me Be Mice Elf Agin) and others are imo. complete trash, I can't stand it... when Prince is playing these old standards at aftershows it just makes me want me to: barf

I seriously can't stand Larry Graham, the changes he brought to Prince, and all he stands for in "Prince-world"....

I don't know Larry personal - of course not, I'm sure he is a really nice guy, but what he did to Prince, those changes mentioned in Notorious, well those are just terrible. sad

imo... wink

You could argue that the zealot jumped in when the guy was at his lowest (which must be very low for such a short guy) and took advantage of his weakened and vulnerable state.

A great tactic when attempting to bolster numbers or influence people I always find. Get the bastards when they're down sigh

What pisses me of is the venom against this Larry or anything religious. For fuck's sake, If I respect people who go to some place at a lake to get fucked in the asshole or stick their dick in some hole in a dark room to get sucked anonymously, why the fuck shouldn't I respect a Jehova's witness?
Apparently Prince had some empty space that needed to be filled and now handing out Watchtowers satisfies him. Fine. I don't think it's any worse than paying 300 dollar to be whipped, locked up in a batroom, almost getting choked with a garbage bag and hit on balls with a fork till bleeding as I witnessed recently.
This anti religious sentiment is annoying me more and more. Sometimes I work for the muslims and the next day for the SM dominatrixes; none of them bothered me.

The point is, how many superstars died from drug overdosis, alcoholism, extreme thrills? Apparently superstardom does that with people. So of all the options, being a JW is not that bad. And yes, I fucking like the MPLS/LF albums and all the other post JW stuff. Some more than fucking Purple Rain.

Larry seems like a good influence for Prince. I think Prince is pretty good at knowing what he wants or does not want. I would prefer Larry than any other drugged out rock stars. They also make good music together and Larry has some amazing footwork.. cool

thats how those cults get you. they get you when you are most vulnerable. Larry is a pioneering bass genius but they are both lost in a ridiculous cult. Prince is very very smart and I think one day he'll wise up and leave them. Larry is more old school so he'll be with them for life

i just love larry graham threads....

anyway,

i think its hysterical that all the religious, 'soul saving' nuts think that if Prince didnt meet Larry Graham and get into JW then he would have ended up on drugs and a herion addict.

which is a complete pathetic cliche and so typical of the brainwashed..

its as if a person cant tackle problems with determination or by building a plan or by letting time heal wounds...

no, its either get your soul saved or you'll become a drug addict...because people are just that weak... or maybe only weak people would buy into that junk...

how ridiculous.

if you cannot see a sad and serious decline in Prince's music since LG, then good for you.. keep drinking the purple holy water.

im just going to keep butt fucking and listening to Parade.

That has more to do with his age than his religion.

He's just not as good a songwriter as he used to be, because his mind isn't as sharp anymore.

Matter of fact, people were saying the quality Prince's music was declining way before he became a Jehovah's Witness.

Hell, some people think he lost it when he released Around the World in a Day.

Who are you to say his music has declined?

I'm not a religious person, but Larry Graham helped Prince during some of the darkest times in his life.

So what if he doesn't say "fuck" anymore?

People complain about his lyrics being too dogmatic. I guess they weren't paying attention when Prince put the Lord's Prayer in the middle of one of his most popular songs.

Prince has always had Christian religious imagery and lyrics in his music.

Some people say he's become a sexist.

Have these same people seen the video for Gett Off???

Some people say he's become homophobic.

Like Bambi is so inclusive.

A majority of things people accuse Larry Graham of making Prince do because of his religion, he had already been doing for years.

I guess if Larry and Prince did heroin together instead of reading the Bible, no one would be saying anything.
