What Song By Another Artist Would You Love To Hear Prince Do?

Prince has done a number of covers with mixed results. I absolutely love his version of Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You" but could do without covers like "La, La, La Means I Love You."

What songs by other artists would you love to hear Prince's version of?

I think he could do an absolutely smashing version of Tom Waits' "Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis." I'd kill to hear that.

An overdriven guitar-storm version of Over The Rainbow.

Somehow I think he could mesh TLC and Radiohead's "Creep" into something ridiculously awesome.

Motley Crue - Same Ol' Situation

Maxwell - Ascension

Frankly I'm surprised he's never touched "Hate On Me" by Jill Scott in recent years.

The Point of it All by Anthony Hamilton who has already said that when he first heard the song it made him cry and it felt/sounded like a Prince song...so true and would be cool to hear Prince' version to this absolutely beautiful song.

Excellent choices. Almost anything off of Lou Reed's Transformer album would be smashing.

I think this question was asked before, but I'll respond with the same selections...I'd love to hear him cover "U So Heavy" by Teena Marie and "U Bring Me Joy" by Anita Baker and for good measure "Church Of The Poison Mind" by Culture Club

I'd want him to base his off Robert's version. It was a lot funkier in general.

Honestly I love both. Cherelle's is firmly rooted in its time period, and has that Jam/Lewis/Minneapolis type R&B sound to it. But Robert's had a great 80's "weird" vibe to it, and was also firmly planted in Robert Palmer land (which was never quite "normal" in good ways). But his version is truly funky, and it was a very original remake. I also like his version of "Early In The Morning", which was an old song from The G.A.P. Band.

Robert also covered a Jackson's song "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming", which I almost feel like I remember a video too. He did it was a duet too. Both of those songs (Early, Tell Me) are on his Heavy Nova album. Clare Fisher did strings on that album. (PS Look up Robert Palmer and Chaka Khan on YouTube. You'll get some satisfaction. wink )
