To do 4 shows a week for the next 3 months?? NO. thats too much pressure and tiresome for any person and just so unrealistic. Look what happened to MJ, marjority of people knew he was never gonna complete the 50 dates so even worse it end up killing him.

Prince did 21 main shows then scheduled to do 21 aftershows...now even he didnt make every aftershow, he only peformed for about half of them roughly and even when he did turn up there was a couple of times he didnt sing just strummed his guitar or was walking around the back of the stage. he's resting his voice etc

I would rather have him do fewer intimate shows around the world with him in good health and alive and kicking thanks.

I don't think he was signed up or scheduled to do 21 after shows. I think there were 21 after show parties scheduled. I don't think Prince promised he'd be there performing at them all, or even any of them! However, as time went on and he realised how important they were to his fans, and began to really enjoy them he did more and more. But I don't think it was anything to do with him not fulfilling or not being able to fulfill any obligations.

Yes ur right it didnt actually say he was gonna do every aftershow but the tickets was printed as 'Prince-Offical Aftershow' and yes of course it didnt mean he was gonna perform at all of them, which was cool for some fans like me who was just happy to be there and just see the NPG etc but for others it was a problem coz people came from the other side of the world expecting to see him, so Prince was slight at fault there and shouldnt of put it down as that on the tickets. But realistically he couldnt perform at all of them the man does need to rest etc.

As for him realising how important they was isnt exactly true, Prince performed at the aftershow on the first night and did it them on a average of every other night. He's knows the hardcore fans would kill for an aftershows hes been doing them for decades (i went to my first one in the 80s) and people are just glad to see him turn up, i mean really he could just sit there and sleep and we all still go wild! lol

Oh ok, every other night... ? I didn't realise that. Yeah, I suppose he should have worded it differently on the ticket. I was one of the lucky ones!! biggrin Cool that you saw an afershow in the 80's - must have been amazing!! And, yes I agree totally with the above.. lol

There was one where he did lay down near the drums and everyone screamed! giggle
Yes something like every other night, some after a third main show some after one. The list should be on the org somewhere. Yeah really felt sorry for the fans who came from places like japan etc and he didn't turn up. They spent so much money to see him! U was very lucky u got to see him if u only went to one/couple of them smile
The Lovesexy aftershow was truely magical mushy

He played 14 'proper' aftershow sets. The tickets said "3121 - The Official Aftershow". So no promise of Prince playing at all. I don't think there is any other artist (someone please correct me on this) who actually plays live at their official aftershows. The best most can hope for is some sort of DJ set.

I believe 14 aftershows from 21 main shows is by far the best after/main show ratio of his entire career. And there were some truly stunning shows in that run.

The tickets was misleading regardless of what he didnt promise, it said: Prince-Offical Aftershow, 3121 at Indigo2 etc.
There was a DJing every night me thinks before the performances playing old skool funk.

Anyway back to thread Prince shouldnt do 50 nights at the o2, it would be absolutely ludicrous.

but who knows ...not sure abt doing 50 it depends if he can do it or feel fit to do it unless he reduced the numbers...like maybe 20....
lm sure the king knows what he wants to do or what plans he have up his sleeves.
cool

if he does do 50 shows and break it then he will be the bigger king than all
he will be the first record breaking holder if he does that wink

he will be a bigger icon than michael jackson and l predicts tht... cool

and lm sure tht he can do it .. wink

Wow - I didn't think there would be a response on here that was as dumb as the original question posed by the threadstarter but.....there it is!!

No he shouldn't especially if he actually had the hip issues. Prince got to shake something and drop it like it's hot. If he can't do that then it would be just horrible.

I believe he could fill each and EVERY seat! love

If it has nothing to do with Michael Jackson, then why did you pick 50 nights? You made it about MJ when you picked the same number of concerts he was going to do.

I haven't compared Prince and MJ - you have and neither did I say he couldn't do 50 nights. I do, however, find it dumb and perverse that anyone would ask if Prince should fill a dead man's shoes. If you didn't want this to look like, as someone put it, "pissing on MJ's grave", you should have gone for a different number. Or, can you at least justify exactly why you picked 50 nights?

You've also missed on my motivation for reading the thread - it wasn't that I was interested in the question, I was moreso shocked by the proposition (which, is why I didn't actually respond to your question, but commented on the Aftershow "confusion" and then highlighted a response from someone who I felt was on a par with yourself - I think its clear from those comments I wasn't "interested" in your thread from the outset)

Suggesting 50 nights doesn't mean i am pissin on michael jacksons grave
it's just a number. if prince decided 2 do 60 some would still say prince is
pissin on michael jacksons grave. the reason i mentioned prince and no other musicians is cuz the media compares prince 2 jackson.
also michael jackson was only gonig 2 play 10 i believe it's just that he was tricked accordin 2 those who know about jackson.
i find alot of people r sensitive 2 michael jackson u know death is 4 evreyone.
ok i made a mistake assumin that u compare michael jackson 2 prince.
justifacation of 50 nights the figure came 2 my head.
thought i would let u know i do have the 1st 4 michael jackson solo albums
and the 1st 2 r brilliant albums.

The ticket said Prince-Offical Aftershow, it wasnt on the ticket that he wasnt gonna do all of them and if it was on 3121 site thats not enough and not everyone reads every bit of the org or even goes on it. i dont believe fans are online all time looking for Prince news or even dissecting it all. I think most just get what they need and go on there merry way so who knows where fans or anyone gets there information from or even how they interpret the information they do recieve and i really dont care either coz its boring, all i know is i heard/read people complaining!

All the press releases stated that Prince was not guaranteed to perform, but there would be some live music (the one night when there wasn't, I believe people received refunds).

On the ticketmaster page to buy aftershow tickets it specifically stated that Prince was not guaranteed to perform. Of course people will be disappointed if he doesn't appear onstage but there can be no doubt that anyone buying a ticket should have been aware of the situation. There was no interpretation - if people thought otherwise, they just weren't looking at the information presented to them.

It was a funny kind of lottery - even when the music started behind the curtain sometimes you were still guessing whether Prince would be part of the band that night.
