This remix is completely abysmal.

How can this be the same man that did Fury on SNL or Dreamer on Leno??

It all depends on what you want from a remix.

A remix that Prince has not produced.

Some of my all-time favourite remixes were done by Prince or with him. 'Gett Off'(housestyle), 'Space' (Universal Love), 'TMBGITW' (Mustang), 'I Wish U Heaven Pts 1, 2 & 3', 'This is not Music, this is a Trip', 'Little Red Corvette (Dance mix).

In regards to 'Greatest Romance' my favoured remix was Prince's 'Adam and Eve' version, not the Jason Nevins or NERD remixes.

Prince's danceable qualities, IMO, come from funk. To me, '1999' is a dance record. Parts of 'Dirty Mind' and 'Controversy' are blatant dance.

But this is just a remix. The tribal drum and Dominatrix may be more to certain peoples liking. Regardless, I don't think many Prince fans are dance fans anyway.

lol I guess no one's feeling this remix at all. Prince seems to have laid a purple egg.

I think for what it is intended for it is just fine. If it had been played when I was at a beach party in Spain at 4 in the morning last week - it would not have been completely out of place.

Euro dance - nothing wrong with that - not as great as an extended version like the good old days but it is good to hear any official remixes of a Prince song - the last one was what - The Greatest Romance, 10 years ago?

So far, it's only available from the French iTunes store as far as I know. Icon tweeted that it will be available worldwide in a couple of weeks. There does seem to be a Promo CD-R EP of the remixes in someone's hands, though.

This is just the single edit. But there is an EP out there.

Finally listened to this,
Yes this sounds generic, but the original had NOTHING going for it, there really isn't much you can do with it. I can see why the original music was ditched.
The entire MPLSOUND album sounds like bad a Prince impersonator from the Ukraine.
The Icon guy did the best he could with what he was given.

I don't agree with you on that!
I think the synth sounds P used for the album version are highly ussuable for a good dance floor mix, especialy the synth sound that he starts te song with at 21 sec. into the original and the synth at 2.28, also the rythm guitar could have been used to give it a more funky feel!
I like the icon mix though it is a bit hysterrical for my kind of drugs wink

respect ur opinion but totally disagree. Dance4me is a strong track IMHO. The remix is sterile, generic and lacking in any creativity whatsoever. However, we have more remixes to come so hopefully one of those will compliment the original

I feel the same way. When Prince does his own remixes, he reinvents the song, extends it, adds to it musically and artistically. This mix sounds like he just handed over his vocal track and the remixer added some beats and keyboard stabs here and there (including a very annoying siren-like yelp) and that was it.

To my taste the best remix by someone-other-than-Prince would be the William Orbit remix of The Future/Electric Chair. This is a far cry from that.

Why not enjoy a remix that is not from the NPG or Kirky J

With the right promotion, it will be played a lot in clubs, believe me....

A good remix absolutely needs to be 128 - 132 beats per minute.
Remixes are for club djs. Have you ever seen a dance floor clear out because of a bad remix? The mix needs to be slammin' For example: Pussy Cat Dolls - Don't Cha (128 bpm) or M. Carrey - We Belong Together. (128 bpm)
Popular hip hop started the dumb line of shouting ReeeeMiX at the beginning of a song. Remixes have been done since the beginning of disco. If it isn't high energy bpm then it will be a splash in the pan, not a classic club track.

It's not a question of being conservative, the remix is a complete phone in, you'd think remixing a big name like Prince, they might've put some effort into it. The remix is completely and utterly pedestrian.

Well, that is your opinion smile

I like dancing in clubs and they play things like that...do you make music yourself?? If so you should know it takes some effort to make such a remix...

I like dancing in clubs too, in fact I was employed as a club dancer in my late teens-early 20s. And it takes very little effort to stick a pre-programmed beat behind an acapella track, they've done little else to it.

I'm not a huge fan of the original, but at least that version is by Prince. As other have said, this sounds like an off the shelf beat with Prince's vocals layered on.

After authorizing so few remixes over the years that he didn't do himself, I'm puzzled that he'd authorize this one.

I'd prefer it if he'd done one himself and at least introduced some new musical ideas into the song, as he often does when he's remixing his own work.
