This in no way meant to be a smart-ass question; I just happened to be pondering it today: How would y'all direct the video?

vid would have opened with a girl (the one from the Crimson & Clover vid) answering her front door. A delivery man gives her a package... after he gives it to her, he turns away and we can see its Q-Tip with a smirk on his face. When she opens it inside... its a box of chocolate with a card. The cover of the card is the MPLSound album cover. She opens it and it says, "A New Universe Awaits."

She taste a bit of chocolate and starts to trip out. She feels herself shooting through a hyperspace dimension with disco jelly fish flying all over the place. When she lands she finds herself in another universe wearing some slick clothes. The setting is identical to the current video. Across from her is Q-Tip in militaristic gear (think a Gramaton Cleric from the movie Equalibrium) and a platoon of droid troopers... this is CGI. On the blimp over head is Prince and he starts up, "I got a box...". Q-Tip (showing some actual menacing emotion) begins to approach the girl... she turns and leaps off the roof landing on the ground 20 stories down ala Matrix style... and the chase is on.

She drop kicks a guy riding a futuristic cycle off his bike... leaps on,.. puts on some shades and takes off. The shot would cut to Q-Tip on a bike following her. All the while, this blimp ominously is over head with Prince doing his thing. The lights of the streets would be dazzling and reflecting off their bikes as they go on a high speed chase. Their rear lights leaving trails around corners... over jumps... through intersections. The whole idea is to keep the energy high and the editing fast paced.

She tries to beat the traffic at one intersection but doesn't make it... so she leaps off into the air as her bike explodes behind. She lands and runs into the nearest building and its like some sort of trap hallway. She navigates over and under a bunch of laser lights during Q-Tips rap break. When she gets through it and runs through another door... she finds herself in a futuristic night club looking place. She looks around the room and she sees a bunch of those CGI droids from earlier.... and standing in the middle is Prince. He's dressed in an all white version of Q-Tips uniform with one of his white guitars strapped from his shoulder. Just as Q-Tip runs in behind her.. Prince starts singing his line, "So what's the deal..." He kinda 'hams' up the performance as she stands there in shock.

Then the whole room starts spinning from her perspective with the lights flashing, Q-Tip laughing at her... and Prince making the 'funk faces' rocking out the guitar getting closer and closer to her. (I'd have Prince do a guitar heavy remix for the scene). I'ld even throw in a shot or two of the droids dancing. She begins to get dazed and passes out as Prince reaches for her saying the last, "I got a box...."

She will wake up on her couch... out of breath... half the chocolates would be gone. Her doorbell would ring and when she stumbles to answer... its Prince and you can see a limo behind him parked in front of the house. "Did you get my box of chocolates?" And we see him walking in from the outside as the camera pans to see Q-Tip as the chauffeur. The limo pulls off and fades away into the other dimension.

To be continued....

Damn dude! You got more time than I do! Haha! lol

Anyway, that video was weak as hell! Made no damn sense. I mean I can't believe my eyes bad. I'm just shaking my head at that crap...

And inspite of an ignorant post from someone in this thread a couple pages who is now on extended vacation..... I am still pissed off at how bad this video was BECAUSE of how good it could have been.

i'm still processing my feelings about the song and the video...but, after viewing it the first time these are the first thoughts/responses.

- it's def a prince song, his strange way of avoiding melody, if that makes sense, his layered voices

- i like some of the keyboard he's using in the background...not the bass line, but the sustained chords; gives it a unique 80's feel

- the lyrics are funny

The girl in the video could be a representation of a girl running around online looking for Prince. She's tough - i.e. she's got talents of her own, but she's not using them. The guy chasing her could also represent someone online - he may think she's
someone on the rise - he see's she's got some creative skills and after all it is cyber space - high tech and she is mysterious. He might even think she's
Prince online incognito.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, Prince knows who he is online and he's just kicked back
watching the scene play out...watching these two go round and round ... didn't anyone notice the round house kicks she threw at Q-tip? Notice the flash of flourescent color in those kicks? the poetic prose as it were.... possibly?

Anyway, she just needs to get it in gear and start utitlizing her own creative talents professionaly ...
i.e.get a JOB and stop wasting her time on these bone heads online chasing her around and vexing her spirits.
She's allowing silliness and the haters to keep her vexed, tied up and keep her mired in the mirey clay.

The video is dark... the mood is dark... the clothing is dark. Only flashes of translucenent color here and there from her. Anyone notice that?

Let the lotus rise ...so to speak. be all she can be. be all she's supposed to be creatively speaking. then the darkness will turn to light, the desert will turn to a garden... the sky will be bright and she might find herself change from dark somber to vivid translucent color... like the jellyfish....shining her own light.

Prince is in the Goodyear...floating in the sky...in the light.

After reading all of your posts pondering the meaning of the video ....this is what occurs to me...

did anyone notice Prince's head on the site... as the lotus? I'm sure you all have. The lotus is open... fully unfolded and extended. It means something. It means a lot ... about life.

to me, the video makes perfect sense. It makes a lot of sense.

I could be wrong. But I don't think so.

The entire theme of the LotusFlow = LotusFlower = chocolate box video ... the entire site could be a call to let the
Lotus Arise in us all and bloom out in full.

Its pretty deep ... when ya think of it that way.

Occasionally people of all ages like to see a visual representation of a song as envisioned by the musicians and artists involved. I find it odd that there is some kind of perceived age limit to this form of entertainment. Interesting...

You paint quite a picture in the minds eye. But, let me see if I understand correctly, are you suggesting in your version that the protaganist (in this case Q-Tip) turns out to be the limo driver for Prince? lol.

Hmmmm....I guess its a thought but.... BUT.....

It looks like she's about to beat Q-Tips tail-feathers. Now she's gotta do a 180 and gotta switch gears real quick cuz its really all good? lol

guess it depends on whats happenin.

What do you suggest is about to happen to make that logical?

And remember to keep in the theme of the Lotus ...the whole concept of the lesson of the LotusFlower.

lame song lame video. it's like he watched Sin City and said make it like that. I liked the visuals ok, but the "story" line is like "melody" lines in the song. Not there. If that story has deeper meaning I'll eat my hat. 90s because that's where he is stuck, not cause he TRIED for it. I probably have clothes from the 80s stored some where in a box, don't make me retro...lol.

BTW, why do ya think he was suckin a lollipop while singin that song?

Just somethin to do or a hint about Glam Slam ...or?

I liked the video. I thought it was a pretty sharp video. I don't do camara work ... or create videos ...but so... I liked it. I don't know what everybody's complaining about.

In fact, I have a friend that does do that kind of work or something similuar between LA and Japan, I think I'm going to show her the video and ask her objective opinion. Because I don't think I'm that blind. I like the video.
Somebody said it was tight time frame. I think it works. the to be continued thing will tie it all in for any one confused about the plot.

I had to watch it several times but I get it and I love the video. I love everything about all of Prince's new CDs and videos. Perfect creations in my opinion. Love.

vid would have opened with a girl (the one from the Crimson & Clover vid) answering her front door. A delivery man gives her a package... after he gives it to her, he turns away and we can see its Q-Tip with a smirk on his face. When she opens it inside... its a box of chocolate with a card. The cover of the card is the MPLSound album cover. She opens it and it says, "A New Universe Awaits."She taste a bit of chocolate and starts to trip out. Q-Tip (showing some actual menacing emotion) begins to approach the girl... she turns and leaps off the roof landing on the ground 20 stories down ala Matrix style... and the chase is on.She drop kicks a guy riding a futuristic cycle off his bike... leaps on,.. puts on some shades and takes off. She begins to get dazed and passes out as Prince reaches for her saying the last, "I got a box...."She will wake up on her couch... out of breath... half the chocolates would be gone.

Wow! That was dramatic and fun description for the "To Be Continued" but I doubt it will go down that way, Having her passing out is kind of corny. After watching the video it doesn't seem like passing out would be her style. Did you see how she dipped down and did the move with her arm on her knee? I liked that move. Her swagger is too cool. She wouldn't pass out in my opinion yet that description was very Hollywood. I think she will take Prince's hand in the end. Wow!This Prince.org site is something else!
