Now THAT would hard 2 keep secret. I'm afraid 2 say that a lot of folks 'round here have been justified in their wonderment of Prince dropping 5 songs and 3 snippets, the LA Times reviews, then 2 create THIS much dead air. 2 much dead air, and people will change the station. Remember this also... anytime Prince has "2 much" time between recording/mixing/mastering, and the actual release in it's final configuration, he has the potential 2 change his mind about anything, including the tracklisting, sequencing, and whether 2 release it or not. His most inspired, musically refreshing albums have been released quickly, without 2 much pondering. I'm thinking the mastering, tracklisting and sequencing R all done, and it's likely just a matter of timing and logistics. Either that, or... This is nothing, my other music idol is Frank Zappa. He's has not been with us for over fifteen years and had at least three albums in the can before his passing. His family has only released one so far. Frank was no better. There is a concert video from the late seventies that Frank promised his faithful that we still have not seen. Although he released a ton of music, his career was full of empty promises.

A function to which a large part of my hoped for resoltuion hung in the balance. I was scred to death of this date because of what I knew I had to go through. And you know what? The day before (December 18th) we got those preview tracks premiered on that radio program. Let me tell you, listening to those songs...over and over again...man, it helped me get my mind in the right place in order to be at my best for that "function" i spoke of earlier. As for the hoped for resolution? Well, it was still rough...but I think I accomplished as much as I could have. Things are looking up at this point for me. It may sound a bit cheesy, but I think God was looking out for me that day. And it was through the music of Prince that he did it! That's just one reason why the music itself means so much to me... I do believe an interactive portion of the site will be live this weekend which could be just the video section with possibly a snippet of a new video. However I think he is going to string us out a bit more on any release of a new CD. Heck, maybe P is reworking some or all of MPLS based on the comments regarding CB. Who really knows? Either way I'm sure P will come through with some cool stuff and hopefully something completly unexpected this weekend. if there really is a delay in the new music [what on earth could it be
since prince has the completed songs to do with as he pleases], would it not be logical to just open the site right now, with some info and a few tidbits like a few old videos and some nice stuff to look at as we're being told that the albums will be forthcoming. if they know that now, what's the point in dragging on and on as they know everyone is still waiting for a miracle apparition of 3 albums come jan 31st, lol. either way, cinical bastard as i may be, i'm still convinced that we will probably get at least one album when the site opens up. that's just common sense. prince usually disappoints, it's true, but he has seldom held out on ALL goodies. whatever happens, he always offers some consolence or something to tie us over. he's not a complete idiot, he knows 90% of the people aware of the website know of the albums that are reported to be released this year and he knows that people think he will release them the moment his site goes live. let's just wait and see. i should really be banned from posting until that stuff is released because i'm sick and fcking tired of myself now. i'm gonna listen to "mellon collie and the infinite sadness" and check back feb 1st. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps | |

The majority of us have been longtime fans. We know the drill and ANYTHING is possible.
How many of us have stood out in the cold and/or rain waiting for tickets? How many of us have done the same thing to get into a concert. How many of us have stood in line for hours in the wee hours of the morning for the aftershow and he has pulled something funny? How many of us have scheduled days off or put off doing certain things because there "might be" a Prince.... His silence does really impact us. That why I wont be surprise by anything he does. But its all worth it in the end..... Say it's just a dream...

Personally I think it can go two ways:
Prince has decided to use some numerological 'important' (at least for him...) date like 31-1-2009, to 'open' his new website. What we can expect on this date is vague of course: 3 new albums to be downloaded? a few new songs? A selection of his past audio- and videomaterial? When it comes to the latest i really don't think he is putting ALL his official past material on his website, like some people here seem to hope for. I mean, it is safer to expect a small selection, with all of the raunchier/so called offensive songs filtered out. Another possibility might be as plausible, I think: Nothing will happen. NPGMusicclub died a silent dead and his 3121 site was suddenly turned to black. I consider Prince 'stubborn' enough to do nothing with the website, before he has contracted retailers who would like to sell his new material in their stores. When it comes to marketing and P.R. opportunities like this, Prince has showed numerous times in the past, that he often makes very illogical choices. Why should this time be different? | |
