which songs contain prince samples?

Name songs that have prince samples or are prince remakes.

When Doves Cry-Romeo & Juliet Soundtrack
Pray-MC Hammer
When Doves Cry-Ginuwine
Get It On (I can't remember the name or the artist but it was a eurodance song by a Canadian artist and it sampled 1999)
Play-J Lo (I feel like she did sample the hook in Kiss)
How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore-Alicia Keys

Arrested Development, i think the song is called "Tennesee"

remakes i can remember at the moment:
"Kiss" tom jones
"i feel for you", "sign of the times" by chaka khan
"darling nikki" foo fighters
"raspberry beret" warron zevon
"i could never take the place of your man" i think it was by Nick Lache or some ex-boy band member

theres also a tribute cd set out that i can't remember the name of.

i'm far more interested in the sample information. good question.

Public Enemy - Brothers Gonna Work It Out (Let's Go Crazy)

Hammer also sampled / loosely remade Soft and Wet on the same album as Pray. Ugh.
Cyndi Lauper did When You Were Mine

You can hear the screaming from Darling Nikki deeeep in the mix of a track from Public Enemy's Fear of a Black Planet. Not sure which one, maybe Welcome to the Terrordome.

I think that P Diddy/Keisha Cole song (Last Night, or whatever it is called) samples the drums from When Doves Cry.

D'Angelo covered Always in my Hair, terribly, in my opinion.

Hammer did soft and wet too, on the same album as Pray. Pray was the one that had the When Doves Cry sample. Soft and Wet was sampled in the Hammer song She's Soft and Wet. Should you still be confused, look it up so I don't have to.

A little-known one: Jamie Lidell sampled Raspberry Beret on "When I Come Back Around (Freeform Reform)" from Multiply Additions.

As someone who samples and is a huge prince fan. Prince is one that people will only sample drums. Most of the lawyers who clear samples will tell you certain people who are NOT cool with being sampled and his name is high on the list. At one point he was going to release these sample disk but he never did

Some of you are confused aboutthis topic. It's strange because I was thinking about this last night while I was doaloading on ITunes by Ghost Face .Just in case some of you need to know he is a member of the Wu Tang Clan.
And the song contained a Prince sample.A sample from. Under The Cherry Moon. When Marry played the drums to New Position. Biz Markie also sampled this back in the day.Sampling is when you take a peice of some one elses music and then make it you're own. Some call it stealing. But Hip hop has gotten
Those are the only 2 song I can think of.
Biz Markie This is something for th radio.
And Ghost Face Ghost Shower.
You can hear Ghost showers on I Tunes..

The lyric and tune sample 'if i was ur girlfriend' was used in an R&B track about 5 years ago, can't remember the song...had a male and female vocalists (possibly Jay-Z?)

The high pitched trill at the end of Sacrifice of Victor I think is used in The Macarena...

hmm, let me think, i know there's more

My favourite - Derek B back in the day sampled the 'Oh yeah' from Sign o' the Times! It went "Oh yeah, rocking Derek B with (or is) the bad young brother". And how we laughed!

I'm very sure that Prince wasn't sitting at home saying "I think that works much better than when I used it. I wholeheartedly sanction Derek B."

There's so much wrong with that record, but think about the rapper with a name like Derek?! He sounded like a middle-aged man with Morris Marina owned from new.

There's the entire Purple Album that samples almost every Purple Rain song with Jay Z's Black Album lyrics on top.

Prince has sampled himself a few times too:

• Carmen Electra's All That samples almost the entire background music of Adore
• My Name Is Prince samples both Controversy and I Wanna Be Your Lover
• Musicology samples several songs at the end, such as Little Red Corvette and Sign O The Times
• Gett Off contains a tiny musical sample of Get Off
• I Wanna Melt With U contains a sample of Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic

There are a few more, but I can't think of them right now.

Thugz Get Lonely Too (the original unreleased version) samples the SOTT Live movie version of 'If I Was Your Girlfriend'

The version with Tech N9ne is an alternate version.

Also, "To Live and Die in LA" doesn't sample the original 'Do Me Baby', it actually samples Melisa Morgan's cover version.

You've also got the unreleased 2Pac/Thug Life cut 'Iz It Cool 2 Fuck?', which samples 'Get It Up' by The Time.

'Pac's 'I Get Around', doesn't sample Prince per se, but some sources claim that it contains a sample from 'The Ladder'. It doesn't. This is due to Tupac rapping the lyric:

'Now everybody's looking for the ladder'.

Also, the unreleased version of 'Pac's Life', samples.....guess what? Pop Life.

The unreleased version of 'Ghetto Gospel' samples the 'Dearly Beloved' from the beginning of 'Let's Go Crazy'.

and of course, the track 'Heartz Of Men' contains a sample from 'Darling Nikki'.....it samples the backwards 'ah ah ah ah ah ah ah' chanting from the end of the song.

As already mentioned, 'Whatz Ya Phone #' samples '777-9311', and the chorus to the former uses the same melody as the original chorus.

Jay Z and Beyonce - Bonnie & Clyde

Mylo samples him too, but can't remember which at the moment.

BoraBora

Months ago I discovered something I wasn't aware of (maybe many of u were).

I ordered on Ebay an old Milly Vanilly's CDsingle of the song "Baby Don't Forget My Nunber" and listening to this with my great surprise I found that one of the mixes (honestly I don't remember the title) starts with a sample from "Bob George" (I could be also wrong here, but if my memory is right is the "Let Me See U Dance" portion).

Th funny thing is that at the time of the release of this single, the "Black Album" was still waiting an official release.
So it was a non-authorized (and not credited) sample of something that officially wasn't in existence. biggrin

GNS

"Return of the B-Boy" by the Pharcyde samples a Madhouse song
There's an MC Lyte track that samples "17 Days"
Mokkenstef (sp?) sampled "Do Me Baby" for "He's Mine"

There are a gang of others I'm sure.

As far as covers, I find it to be a testament to the song itself that three, count 'em, three ladies covered "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?"; Stephanie Mills, Melissa Morgan and Alicia Keys.
Latoya Jackson also did "Private Joy"
There was a punk cover of "1999" by some band whose name I can't recall.
