Most likely a demo track. Wonder if its for his album or Bria or Shelby's?
Change it one more time..

BTW people: That is Prince. What you non-musicians term as "sloppy" keys is actually just P substituting his voice with that.

The question is if that is for himself or some chic.

^I don't buy that. What is the purpose of leaking a half finished demo with a keyboard vocal line? And if it wasn't Prince who leaked it, why would Drfunkenberry risk his line of communication by posting something behind his back?

It's fake.

Ok, but what is the purpose of Prince showing off new material to a bunch of stars at his home at 5 a.m.? See what I mean? Why is Prince driving himself around town at night with shades on wink? Freakier shit has happened.

Prince is probably excited about the song and slipped it to Dr. F which does have nice grooves and many Prince-exclusive licks. The only real complaint would be the lead keyboard vocal line (which probably will be removed) and the other finalities, including lack oflyrics and voice of course.

Wow. If Prince is excited about this track, then I would seriously start to question his ears. The song is funky no doubt, but it's way to generic and cliché ridden for someone like Prince to get excited about.

Haha, generic and cliche? who's cliche? Prince owns that! But I think you are talking about the quality. Once you add a couple instruments and lyrics it will sound fly.

Oh, please. How can you tell from a very, very basic track like this? There's a lot missing from what the final track would sound like. Let's face it, this is basically a rhythm track. There is no melody to speak of - that synth bith is a backing line, at best.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

We spoke about the instrumental in the chat last night. Last night my impression was that the sound is SO familiar to me yet I can not place what song(s) it sounds like...yet it most certainly sounds like Prince's older work! To me it is an unfinished song,in the process of completion.

This form of communication is fun and exciting, so I will just sit back and wait to see what happens next. Thank you for the carrot. I'll nibble on it for a while until the bowl of carrot soup is served up. lol biggrin

That is exactly my point! There is no logical reason why Prince would leak such a half-finished demo-like track! The only other time he has ever done anything remotely similar is when he streamed a preview of "Feel Better, Feel Good, Feel Wonderful" on the NPGMC in 2006 and asked for members feedback - but even that track was a lot more polished and fully produced with vocals and guitars by that stage.

If on the other hand it was leaked by someone in the Prince camp without his knowledge, then there's no way DrFunkenberry would risk the chance of destroying his line of communication with Prince by linking to it behind his back.

C'mon people... IT'S FAKE.

I totally agree with you - it would sound fly with instruments and lyrics! But the fact remains that it doesn't. It's extremely unlikely that someone of Prince's abilities would release such an unfinished demo-like track. On the contrary, what it does sound like is a well made fake.

I hope it's not legit. Those fake record scratches and faux symphonic bursts are way dated and not in a good way, like the Linn sounds. That kinda makes me think it's Prince tho. Remember Holla and Shout or Love?

That one somehow got me.. Maybe he just wants to confuse us by what we've heard from Funkenberry and Blackwell, so the average Turn Me Loose hater will be pissed off again and then BOOM the ROCK IN YOUR FACE album strikes!

But I'm not too sure about that, I think he's way too much into Funk these days to release a daring quality rock album confused

A lot of things that Prince is doing make no sense. This is Prince we're talking about, you can't argue here with logic. Sometimes he does something just for fun.

my experience.

i tried listening to the song using the Opera browser, and it wouldn't work. then i tried to listen 2 it using Internet Explorer, and it also would not work. after a few hours, i installed Firefox, and was just able to listen to it for the first time.

the song definitely sounds like Prince. the very first beats, and even the ending of the song using a percussive sound.

how to describe it? Prince newfunk...MPLS?...well, Prince's sound. if genre's need to be mentioned, this would be hard to do, but light jazz and funk come to mind.

one wonders what the lyrics would be about

Snare drum pound on the 2 & 4

hug thanks.

I hear Lady cab driver, some beats of Alphabet street en some Come on (New power soul). It's a mix of many Prince years.
It's not bad but it sounds a little tedious, the same beat goes on too long but if it's something of Prince I'm sure it still has to be completed.
