for those of you on this thread slamming prince i'm not sure what you feel like you need from him, a role model? a spiritual guide?. Prince is an imperfect human who found something he believes is stabilizing for him, and for that i say good. he's a rock and roll star LOL a sheltered guy who never worked a day in his life and will always be a child in certain ways. none of this shit ( prop 8, the elections nor health care) will never hit home with him as it would a real adult who has to work 8 hours a day. He was making music and $ when our current president was but a college freshman, how can we consider anything he believes in his alternative universe to be so relevant to our lives. Hell, Prince aint even at the peak of his celeberty LOL, he's a legend no doubt but a fringe celeberty only relevant when he picks up a guitar. I love prince for what he's given me with his art but at this current moment this is a guy who is close to 20 years removed from a relevant peice of work which is kind of his job. So, calm down, continue to love the wack job ( cus you know you do) and pray that he can keep it together enough to at the very least do his job in 2009.If he cant focus enough to do that then it is he who is committing the great sin.

Well said. clapping

nod

so why is Prince speaking?

does he think we need to hear his views?

or does he just want to be seen?

does he do these interviews for attention?

I sincerely hope that all of this is a bunch of misquotes, but if not.....i still support the man who, just like the rest of us are on a journey to find and re-define who we are and more importantly who we are meant to be.
May God give ALL of us, including Prince; patience and the insight to see that sometimes when a man screams the best response is to whisper.

I'm through with this site. It is a bunch of pretentious, prejudiced assholes who think they are God's shit.

I'll still listen to Prince's music from time to time, but he needs to explain this situation. He has alot of gay fans and I bet deals with a lot of gay entertainment business men and women (who still probably will support him because they see dollar signs. They are as bad as straight businessmen and women. No principles; just money).

Fuck this place and the close minded people in it. JUST GET A FUCKING LIFE!!!

Look ... all I am saying is Prince has certain beliefs and we should respect it. We shouldn't call him names and all the other stuff because then we are doing the same thing you are accusing Prince of doing....

Everyone begs for more and want to get into his private life...well here ya go

Peace & B wild.

I won't call him names, but I have moved on and can no longer support him. Good for him having whatever beliefs that he may have, but...I have seen my last show...I have bought my last cd...

Basically, he, and others, are saying that I'm a 2nd class citizen, who doesn't deserve equal treatment under the law or in the eyes of God...now that isn't very DO UNTO OTHERS, is it.
It's hypocritical and hurtful. THANKS PRINCE...I wish you Heaven (however one defines that), even though you KNOW that I won't ever achieve it (clears throat)...PEACE, brotha. I hope SOMEDAY you find what you've been looking for all these years. You've come a long way in the last 27 years...(my first show was in 1981...
...and, he has said that THIS is relatively new...SO, I have to believe that it wasn't always like that...I remember the things that were said and done on stage during the Controversy tour...

ANYWAY...LATER PRINCE and PRINCE.ORG.
C YA AROUND

I think there's a lot of truth in this post, though I also think that you do kind of have to allow fans their indignation, especially at this point in time, when the subject of gay marriage is such a hot button topic. When you spend years investing time, admiration, patience and money into an artist like Prince, it sucks when he turns around and says something in an interview that can easily be interpreted (or misinterpreted) as alienating and divisive.

whether prince was misquoted, misinterpreted, or if we indeed got prince's full theological monty in that interview, he's been around long enough to know that people pay attention to the things he says. at the very least, i'd like to think that this backlash wasn't what he was intending when he was granting that interview with the new yorker.

i understand everyone has a right to express outrage but boycotts? i dont think hes important enough for the distinction-but hey i'm a black man who didnt feel oj was important enough to "frame" LOL. I am also a proud parent of a lesbian so i guess i dont have to say where i stand on prop 8, i just believe there are bigger fish to fry. Prince made himself a small fish by # 1 representing a "truth" and not playing it to the hilt. Dont compare him to little richard, he had the balls to wash off the make up and preach for real, as long as prince is sitting there in high heels ( a lie about his stature when i've been 5'4 all my life and never been complelled to go there) wearing flawless make up ( a lie about the affects of ageing and masculine features he was born with) and numerous other worldly mistruths (hairdye anyone?) i cant take the man seriuosly.Wanda Sykes to me is someone i want to hear on the subject as a straight male who is concerned with human rights because prop 8 affects her daily life and her right to be happy. Prince cant even write coherantly about feelings (wheres the song for gregory?)given his awesome talent, remember he created textspeak LOL. So with prince it's like any other loved one, i accept him as that flawed but really interesting friend, when he's "on"( as in holding a guitar) i'm there but when he talks i realize he's not coming from a very realistic place. I AGREE WITH THIS

MATTHEW 7:1-5
Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

But what if he is not sticking wherever and in whatever now. Your not a hypocrite if you change what you are doing. If he has not changed then yes he is being a hypocrite.

Wow,you would think somebody who seems to be for gay marriage to be open to freedom of religion and belief...but youre not. I and some others that are too intimidated dont agree with you because of what the Bible says or strictly because of what they believe. You can call me names and whatever else you wanna do, but because I believe in something that you dont...Im a fool? How foolish of you.Youre truly backwards.I would get ripped to shreds if I called you a fool for believing in gay marriage though,rite?...shame.

Hmmm...how can I get you to answer my original question? Methinks you want to divert attention!!

I'll answer your question. biggrin Since fear and ignorance are simply being afraid and having lack of knowledge, then opposing gay marriage is not based on fear and ignorance as the opponents have researched their position so thouroughly as to allow prop 8 in california to pass and that amendment (cant think of the title) to pass in florida. the proponents of these measures would have had to come up with some very compelling and logical arguments to even get on the ballot. And before you go calling the marjority of Americans who voted for these initiatives fearful and ignorant, remember these same Americans voted overwhelmingly for Obama and for change - so they are hardly fearful or ignorant to vote for a black guy with a funny name to be leader of the most powerful country in the world.

These people appear to me to be divided into two groups; the group that doesn't believe politics s/b involved in this discussion and the group that thinks religion goes hand in hand with politics and therefore their religious beliefs are in opposition to gay marriage. Both groups do not want gay marriage being considered a norm and tought to their kids. I don't blame them one bit, the schools can barely get kids reading and writing. The one difference btwn the groups I think is that one group feels civil unions are enuf of an equivalent to marriage and that marriage s/not be redefined and the other group feels that gov't is already too involved in civil matters period. Its not about fear or ignorance IMO but about how far does gov't intrude in people's lives either for the better or worse? I'll tell you one thing, the vandalism of property as has been reported in the news is not helping the cause of ppl supporting gay marriage. disbelief

I've always been able to avoid, ignore, disagree with some of Prince's views and still enjoy his music.... until now.I agree with WALL on this one. Should we be surprised at Prince's views on homosexuality considering he's been JW for several years now and had even denounced Wendy and Lisa for being gay?

I'm a gay man and a democrat but that doesn't mean I don't have morals . I've had it with this type of bigotry. Yes, it's Prince's opinion and he has EVERY right to believe what he does but this is an end of an era for me. It's not shocking just sad.

What is almost more shocking to me is how Prince can be "proud" of such a dull, uninspired piece of garbage like 21 Nights?

I read this article early this morning - I have resigned from being a Prince fan – I’ve had enough of him - I will never support another Prince project - he's like the republicans want to do God's will and the democrats do not- for a person who doesn't vote because his religion tells him not too, he sure has a lot to say on politics –

Why, because he has is own oppinions about things?

That is not fair. The bible is black and white. If it says something is wrong, then it is wrong. There are fools out there that judge folks because of their interpretation but Prince isn't doing that. He was pointing things out and that was it. Now those folks who blow up abortion clinics and stand outside funerals and curse the families because the person was gay is so far from the bible...and everyone who comes from the bible shouldn't be compared to those idiots. Plus, saying these things about Prince is just as bad as what you are accusing P of doing.

I am no longer a Prince fan - I have no interest in his music - the only interest I have now is exposing him for the fraud he is – any boycott that I can participate in slamming prince I am totally for it!- which includes asking the radio stations to not support his new music, sending emails / letters to television shows like Ellen since Prince is a homohpobe why should she support him, picketing outside his concerts when he comes to tour, not buying and new music, etc..

Go right ahead and make a fool of yourself. I don't believe in homosexuality but I love them as a person. I have never told a gay joke. I work with and have sat down and ate with gay people. They have been at my house. I have family members who are gay. I still don't like what they are doing...That is my oppinion. Did you hear Prince (even in the mis-quotes) say anything negitive? He was sharing his beliefs and that was it. I have seen pictures of Prince and Ellen long after he became a JW and I am sure they are friends.

Question for you: If Prince said he doesn't like people who cheat on their spouses would you still slam Prince and protest? There are certain things in life that people accept and don't accept and that is thier life. As long as we treat everyone with respeact that is all that matters.

Much love...

I can totally understand if people want to boycott Prince. It is not exactly easy being a P fan. He has tested his fan base over and over againand it will eventually bite him in the ass. I understand Prince is on HIS journey for enlightment, but he needs to realize not everyone is on that same journey. And some of the people who aren't are the same people who have enabled him to buy that big house, to build paisley park, to live in his own world. I think he needs to realize that. He spoke about sexual freedom and expression and now he is against it? He probably gave gay people courage to be who they are. It has gone a bit too far. Suing his fans, the youtube shit, the crystal ball fiasco, releasing half ass music because he was upset with his label and figured we will just buy it, throwing together New Power Soul so he can buy Mayte a house because he knew we would just buy it. I like the mans music, and I have respect for him, but he really should look at what got him to where he is and start bein ga bit respectful to all of his fans. And he knows he has a hug gay following.

BTW Lisa said this on her facebook:

Lisa at 9:02pm November 17
and to think he used me and my sexuality to make him more ''outrageous'', or edgy, or something?..... i am sick of it. i have done nothing but support and love him... and he thinks i am a second class, evil, demon that should drown in a rage of god's wrath. ...''am i black or white, am i straight or gay..."
gee how groovy. i'm glad he didn't pay us well because that was evil money anyway.

...i'm not angry!

I apologize in advance for the typos.

Who the hell said the kids are gonna be taught it in school? Guess what, your kids are gonna grow up and come to KNOW.. GAYS exist. And they usually come from two HETERO parents.. SURPRISE SURPRISE..

Because the majority voted for PROP 8..doesnt make it right. Do you think when interracial marriage and intergation were introduced that americans would have voted in SUPPORT? Give me a break..SOMETIMES the majority is WRONG! And in this case they are. Im sure slavery would have never been abolished if we left it up to a VOTE.

Are you american.. Do you know what Thomas Jefferson wrote

"Bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will, to be rightful, must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal laws must protect, and to violate would be oppression." --Thomas Jefferson: 1st Inaugural, 1801. Again, I think you make some really good points. I hear where you're coming from about Prince's comments "not being important enough" to boycott, but I think if someone feels conflicted enough by someone's comments that they don't feel good supporting that person's art, then maybe it's healthier FOR THE FAN to step away from that artist for a while. Call it a boycott, call it a vacation, call it a trial separation - I think it's a perfectly valid response.

I've gone through 25 years of seeing and hearing Prince do things that I haven't always been crazy about, and sometimes his words and deeds have made me downright angry at the man. But not enough for me to pack up my Prince music and call it a day. The person who made the classic albums that made me a fan may not be the same person who's calling himself Prince today, but that doesn't devalue the old skool Prince who I grew up admiring. "Controversy", for example, was not written by a person who believed in intolerance, and so I value it for what it was and what it still is (to me).

Sometimes you have to separate the art from the artist, because the art sometimes has a life and mind of its own. That said, I certainly don't hold the Lovesexy album responsible for Prince's words or deeds circa 2008. lol

That said, I certainly don't hold the Lovesexy album responsible for Prince's words or deeds circa 2008. lol

controversy was written by someone very naive , dweeb and ignorant or someone that just wanted to be seen.

It's amazing the amount of people who think they are in a position to judge Prince as human being. To use the word hypocrite is crass. If Prince is living a Christian lifestyle now, his past doesn't make him a hypocrite. I used to get drunk at least once a week, now that I have gained Bible knowledge I no longer abuse alcohol. Does that make me a hypocrite? Of course not! People can and do change. confused

was going to say something like this, but this covers it
This is what it's like in the dream factory...

This (gay marriage), as with anything else will be allowed or not based on the majority rule. It wasn't that long ago that the majority of well meaning people thought that women shouldn't have the right to vote...one of many things once thought to be right that is now considered wrong. What about burning people at the stake because they were "thought" to be witches? Wasn’t it thought to be okay because it was what God wanted? I don’t know who’s God they were following, it sure wasn’t mine, was it yours?

How do WE truly know what GOD wants....from a book written and re-written over how many years?? Research what it is your following, and if you have, bravo. ask yourself, does God, of all beings makes mistakes? Do you think God, a being that has and IS EVEYTHING needs anything from us, if so why?

I KNOW in MY heart that the topics we focus on today are not the topics that GOD really cares about. If we fought as hard to protect the oppressed, those starving, abused, and too many other injustices in this world....how much closer to heaven and on earth and God would we be?

God help all of us who would rather argue about who can marry whom then the best ways to stop the destruction of the earth and eachother.....
What if all we are meant to do here in this earthly life is to realize who we really are and from the place we originated? To come as close to God in word and did as Jesus did?

How many of us, ALL of us are really asking and truthful answering that old questions...”What WOULD Jesus do?"

That was lovely but also a little fluffy. wink i get from your post that ur just trying to say let's all just be good 2 each other and the world we live in and i agree but I just don't dig it when ppl try and insinuate that God don't care about stuff like this and that hes just all about love. that's way too cumbayah or however u spell it. I mean if you believe any part of the bible then you know God can get pissed off and that there are things he does not agree with. Ten commandments anyone? I love that the God I believe in is merciful and kind but I also love that he can get angry. why? cuz it helps me truly believe we are made in his image and it helps me check myself when I'm being a not so good human. And yeah, maybe he doesn't initially make mistakes but nature does and so do we humans.

I don't hold god accountable for cancer, autism, genius IQ, beautiful babies, or two headed cows. Its all nature's fault, and with that said, Prince can believe and say whatever he wants and as long as he's not trying to affect and influence your job, home, personal family life, and what you do in your spare time then ppl shouldn't get all riled up about it. That's why we're not supposed to worship idols! People are getting so hyped about this as if Prince is supposed to represent everything we individual fans feel. I mean supposing everything Prince was quoted as saying, he really did say and suppose God really don't approve of gays...what the heck is anybody going to do about it? Not a gat dayum thang! falloff
