He doen't look happy anymore not for a long time and he has lost weight and doesn't dance all that much. he is not happy. and after the way he has treated his fans lately, it finally may have set in the mistakes he has made.

I think he may be giving some serious thought to life,
his career, his spiritually...folks in their midlife
ponder these things, but it doesn't mean they're lost.
They're just trying to figure out what's important.

Maybe he really needs some time to smell the roses,
verses frantically going from one concert to the next,
or going from one album to the next.

I applaud him for whatever's he's doing....once he's made
some decisions, then maybe we'll hear from him again.

And how would you know that?

It may just mean he needs to re-sort, but then I don't know
that for a fact either.

Only Prince himself knows....we're just speculating here

He is surrounding himself with highly skilled musicians, but to sharpen I think you need to really vibe and feel "connected."

I'm sorry marriage hasn't worked out for him. And I don't think his band are "friends" or "kindreds" not in the way past members have been.

I think artists, in particular, are very sensitive to the energy they exchange with like minds and can't create or live passionately and authentically without it.

I know this is an esoteric answer. But I'm in a mystical state of mind. cool

And this esoteric answer probably holds more truth than most here would allow themselves to recognise.

Call it conjecture.
I call it spot on.

The Holy Longing by Wolfgang von Goethe

Tell a wise person, or else keep silent,
because the mass man will mock it right away.
I praise what is truly alive,
what longs to be burned to death.

In the calm water of the love-nights,
where you were begotten, where you have begotten,
a strange feeling comes over you,
when you see the silent candle burning.

Now you are no longer caught in the obsession with darkness,
and a desire for higher love-making sweeps you upward.

Distance does not make you falter.
Now, arriving in magic, flying,
and finally, insane for the light,
you are the butterfly and you are gone.
And so long as you haven't experienced this: to die and so to grow,
you are only a troubled guest on the dark earth.

Translated from the German by Robert Bly

What a great poem. Thanks for thinking of it, peaceterna.

For what it's worth, I actually really dig Musicology, 3121 and Planet Earth. I love them for very different reasons, but ultimately because I feel them musically. That said, I hold that he appears to be drifting...spiritually, emotionally, relationally, and musically. But I still dig the music, so I guess the oft-posited question could apply: why care about the rest? The simple answer: because sometimes I do.

Prince is merely living his life, and I'd be willing to bet that there's never been a time when he was more sure and confident then now.

He's simply busy doing whatever it is that he's doing, and just because he doesn't keep us posted on his every move and write songs to perform like a 20 yr old kid, does not make him "lost"...in fact...just the opposite! wink

YOU GO PRINCE!!!! razz
He gets it! That's why the ladies love him...batting eyes

I get the sense that, spiritually, emotionally, relationally, and musically, P is lost; in a veritable quagmire of sorts. This is not necessarily a new thing for P; however, unlike '82, the search - that fire in his belly - seems to have gone, too. It's understandable that people mature and change with age, experience, and love, but with P there still seems to be something of a lonely picture emerging underneath the glossy veneer of his much celebrated musical legend.

U need help. I c alot of threads were u always dogging Prince. If u don't like him and ain't got nothing positive 2 say u need 2 go someplace else. We will pray 4 u tho.

oh lawd, how the hell does anybody get this from his music or interviews? The man lies in every interview he can or doesn't answer any questions directly.

There's no way to tell if he's lost or if he's the happiest man on earth and he just likes fucking with his fans and the press cause he has a unique sense of humor.

Conjecture. Pure conjecture.

The only thing that can be certain is that his recent musical output mostly sucks. The reasons behind it can only be speculated on.

I read an article online about a book called, "September Songs," that talks about the successful marriages that exist in later years due to how people process things emotionally. Anyway, a side note that was mentioned was that marriage researchers call surrounding yourself with positive relatives and friends, "Positivity." I believe that as people go into their 40's and 50's, a more delicate approach to life overcomes you. It is a time where how you spend your time becomes more of a decision than a spontaneous flirt with the day, as we did younger.

I trust that Prince is making the right decisions with his days ahead of him.

:clap:well said Tame. hug

Why is it that when I come to the org, I feel like I'm at a funeral? I feel like there is this sense of mourning in this place. People here seem to be going after each other over silly stuff. NEWSFLASH: Prince isn't dead yet and there is still new music to come. For all we know, something big might be brewing up in the studio but who knows? One thing is ture, no one knows where Prince is in his life right now and that's not a bad thing. If anyone in here truly cares about Prince, then pray for him. Support the dude in whatever way you want to. That's all.

Remember I posed the question "Are Prince fans crazy?". the answer is obviously yes. Is Prince any more happy or unhappy then anyone on this site lol? We all have trials and tribulations. Unless we hear some bad news about him I don't get the moaning and mourning. Some of us are way too invested in voicing opinions are things we are completely clueless on. If Prince were to keel over dead today I would say he had a hell of a life (I mean that in a positive way). I'm sure he has had more fun then the average person gets out of this existence.

Amen, my friend. That's one of the reasons I finally broke down and signed on to the org. I am hoping 2 bring a little Positivity here. It's interesting that you read this as 'dogging Prince'. Suggesting someone may be lost is not 'dogging' them; at least that was not my intention. I was actually showing a level of concern, which I see that some of you feel is ill-founded because, for example, "he has alot of money" or has "lived a 'successful', celebrated life". I assume the implication is that because he has money, or lived a fuller life than many, one should then not be as concerned. It's an interesting perspective, but not one that I share.

I honestly think Prince is less lost now than he's ever been. He's been coming into a more mature spiritual self for a long time, and I think it's beautiful. The people that can't see or understand this now, never will.

[Edited 9/8/08 16:51pm]

Whilst I agree that there was a time when Prince showed signs of spiritual progression, or rather, coming to a place of peace within his faith, more recent times suggest otherwise, unfortunately. Anyone with half an eye of Prince's relationships with women in recent times, and the implications of these, will know this.

Have you considered that, perhaps, you are one of the people "that can't see or understand" P's reality, in which case, according to you, "you never will"?

If you hope to bring positivity, I applaud you. However, have you considered that a connotation underlying your quotation that "opinions are like a%*holes , everyone has one" could be seen as rather negative, and therefore not particularly hopeful or life affirming?
