No speech, just an expression of opinion. It only sounds contrived to those who don't think outside of the symbol. When you are an independent thinker instead of a fanboy, it comes easy. You're all up and down this thread expressing your opinion and when someone says something to the contrary, your response is that the level of fan you are entitles you to more of an opinion? Not a very bright response. I "bothered" because I can. If that makes me "pathetic within myself" (whatever that's supposed to mean) rolleyes then I'll take that label with pride. I'd rather be a pathetic independent thinker than an idolworshipper.

You have a lot spitefulness towards me. .

I hope you get your issues within yourself sorted soon, So you may enjoy a happy and peaceful life.

Love and peace.

Prince loves you, as do I.

Like i said, i respect your opinion, even if i don't agree with you.

PFunk is a great tune.

Look at how you are talking about Prince. You don't know if Prince loves him or not. You are talking about Prince as if he were Jesus.

I can't help but wonder about the psychology behind all this. With the sue everyone phase, I am reminded of something he said at the Minneapolis Target Center concert, something about some random person in the audience being a bootlegger and Wendy said, 'He's not a bootlegger!' Here he is in front of his hometown crowd and that is his concern?

It must be a unhappy place to be in to be concerned about what is going on, on the net. I feel for him and hope he finds his balance.

None of us here have any idea what it is like to be in the public eye. I remember the 'TruePrinceStories' guy saying that P. would receive lots of death threats each week. Paranoia seems like a common occurence in celebrityville. You want to the world to love you and want you but not too much.

Apparently what Prince is saying is that it isn't enough for him to create music and put it out there for us. Man typing that sentence made me sad....

On the other side, he has been letting people up to dance for a while, the majority of people have been very cool (and the rest, you know who you are!) He invited people to Paisley Park. He has let people watch rehearsels and the aftershows, wow!

I agree with Prince Fans United, when Prince talks about supporting indie artists like himself maybe he doesn't see how grassroot it can be. Ani Difranco comes to mind. However I do not agree with the 'we made you we can break you mentality'. How is that serving anyone well?

Maybe Prince doesn't understand that the internet is this big free for all, what is he seriously going to do with some poor soul who got a tattoo of his symbol on their person?

Maybe he can invite people onstage like always but offer a free laser tattoo removal?

I appreciate all the humour people have brought to the situation. I just had surgery and I think I busted a suture when I read about P. rocking some Target pants.

Didn't P. himself sing, "Stand Up! Organize!" ??
Love wins. (Seen on bumpersticker)

I came across this today from orgmaster, Ben, regarding the Uptown fiasco many years back. Still as relevant today...

Prince has one of the largest and strongest, if not the largest and strongest, long-lived online community and fanbase. He's asked us to help him numerous times since 1993: to be released from his contract; to support his non-WB experiment with Bellmark and TMBGITW; to spread the word about The New Master; to donate to his charity; to build several websites (L4OA, twice, and 1800NF) at no cost to him; to encourage record stores to stock his titles; to respect his wishes and call him 0(+> and not "Prince," and more. We have, in general, done all of these things dutifully, never asking for anything besides music in return. The music he claimed he wanted to give away; that he was dying to release but WB wouldn't let him. So we do all this for him, and what do we get? Not respect, not some leeway to use images on websites that give us pleasure (and give him something he desperately needs: relevancy), not even an influx of new music! We simply get cease-and-desist letters, lawsuits and heartache. This is unacceptable and shows just how little Prince thinks the fans matter to his business.

Come on Be Fair! Prince is persuing legal recourse because he, his Music, his Art and Artistic Creations, are being abused. If people weren't contorting his physical image pixelly, or distorting his voice, or misquoting him, or doing any of the other abusive things; then Prince wouldn't be seeking legal recourse. Come on people it is common sense. Anyone would would seek legal protection if they were being abused and used!

Prince does not deserve respect.

Prince is a man in a class by himself. Actually, he's part of the high class/high culture. You know the type... tons of money, power. He's in a class above 99% of us, that's for sure.

In my view, the most disappointing aspect of Prince's recent tirade is that he's using his money to hire high priced lawyers to threaten his "everyday Joe" fans. Why treat his unofficial fan sites, comprised only of hardcore fans, the same as "The Pirate Bay," I'll never know. Also, Prince writes and sings songs about positivity, love for one another, corporate greed, disenfranchised people, human rights -- yet he pulls a card out of the corporate handbook by threatening consumers/fans with high priced, evil lawyers.

To me, that's as low as you can go... it's one thing to be in the high class/elite class... congratulations. But to try and make life difficult for those below you, by threatening the working class, is taking things way too far. That's just how the world works, though. People in a higher social class use people in a lower social class. Ever see Eyes Wide Shut? It's about class structure. Check it out.

I would have expected more from Prince, especially since his hardcore fanbase did a lot for him during the mid 90's, and also because Prince is a so-called "man of God." Why would a man of God use high priced lawyers and a Web Sheriff to threaten the working class? Prince is showing is true colors, finally.

Thus, Prince does not deserve to be respected or admired anymore. He certainly does not deserve any more of our money. That's as clear as I can make it. I feel like a fool for supporting him for so long, sticking up for him when my friends thought his music was terrible, etc. People should have each other's backs instead of threatening with "lawyers." Too sad to be believed, really.

Who is taking anything seriously? I'm laughing because you are funny. Furthermore why are you here? looks like the only outcast is you. Don't have nothing else better to do but spend time on the Internet bashing someone you don't know or respect. Who with a social life has time to do that?

But I still respect your right to post, your post is just funny, that's all.

lol ..Ok, so in other words, it's ok for you to complain about an artist you don't know, but not ok, for anyone else to criticize you on your opinion of him as though you know him? lol I found your post hilarious and similar to most of your posts, that's why I'm laughing. I thought the purpose of what's been going on regarding this site lately, was for people to be able to say what they wish with the freedom to criticize others. So it's not ok to criticize your comment unless we think like you, but you can criticize everyone else that doesn't agree with you? I get criticized, called koolaid drinker, sheep(baaa<-), etc., lol because I don't support the PFU, so what..no one was able to take anything away from me in the process of that, whether I agreed with them or not, but anyway, bud, post on you're making me laugh, I'm not mad at ya...seriously!... lol

Oh you come on! Please and come up for air every once in a while, I'd really hate to see you smother yourself like that!

No one is abusing Prince or using Prince except Prince himself and I'm almost certain that no good Web Sheriff!!

Prince himself makes fun of people...Ozzy Ozburn...hadn't the man just suffered a stroke when Prince came up with that little ditty?

He's an entertainer, having his pictures played with and being misquoted comes with the territory, if he didn't like that he should have gotten his ass out of the business 25 years ago after the success of Purple Rain but he didn't! He kept coming back, begging for more!

So to whine about it now is not only hypocritical, it's beyond reprehensible because he waits until it's time for him to retire to try this shit!

None of what's going on is new and it didn't just start at this stage in his career, so why wait so long if it offended him?

When I read that "Prince loves you, as do I" line, I couldn't help but be reminded of some of those fake "church on Sunday, hell on Monday" type people who love to throw around the phrase "Jesus loves you and so do I" when they are in an arguement.

Considering that Prince has gone around for years talking shit like "Love 4 One Another" and even later becoming so obsessed with his religion to the point of preaching, it kind of gives me the impression that he wants his fans to think he is the authority on religion and who his fans should turn to for spiritual guidance. He really comes across having a superior attitude like "my religion is right and your's is wrong". However, his actions don't live up to his wannabe religious superiority. The way he acts like he's our spiritual guidance conselor, you would think he was Jesus or something. That's why it really tripped me out when that fan said "Prince loves you". Hell, we don't know what Prince loves. lol

It feels like things are cooling down around here.

That's really good to hear. Things were getting ugly for a while. I feel I can breathe a bit better here.

So I say Yay to that woot!

I've been keeping up the supporting the music, but going through my albums from newest to oldest is a strange feeling. Been spending so much time in the present with Planet Earth and 3121, seeing him get younger every day.
Makes me kinda appreciate what he's like now.
The quality of the music is very different
and I actually am starting to prefer the
older vibe of his recent work. But when
I get to the really good albums, I
might change my mind again.
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Many celebrities simply aren't that HYPERSENSITIVE. They know people are going to poke fun at them, create animations about them, dance to their music on youtube and so on. That comes with being in the public eye and as a public figure, you relinquish part of that in exchange for stardom. That is part of why Fair Use laws exist - to protect the FREEDOM other people have to do so. There is a vast difference between copying his music and selling it to others and creating a caricature or parodying him. One is illegal, the other falls under fair use. He's trying to challenge the fair use laws and he will fail. Its as simple as that. Its not about "his" freedom but others' as well. He's not the only person in the U.S., you know? Most people just write stuff like that off because most people are adults. When a person takes a picture of you, its THEIR ART, not yours. Did you know that. Photographers are protected by law, too and have been long before there was a Prince in the music industry.

Don't sleep 'til the sunrise, listen 2 the falling rain
Don't worry 'bout tomorrow, don't worry 'bout your pain
Don't cry unless you're happy, don't smile unless you're blue
Never let that lonely monster take control of U

Be glad that U r free
Free 2 change your mind
Free 2 go most anywhere, anytime
Be glad that U r free
There's many a man who's not
Be glad 4 what U had baby, what you've got
Be glad 4 what you've got

I know (my?) heart is beating, my drummer tells me so
If U take your life 4 granted, your beating heart will go
So don't sleep until you're guilty, 'cuz sinners all r we
There's others doing far worse than
us, so be glad that U r free

Be glad that U r free
Free 2 change your mind
Free 2 go most anywhere, anytime
Be glad that U r free
There's many a man who's not
Be glad 4 what U had baby, what you've got
Be glad 4 what you've got

Soldiers are a marching, they're writing brand new laws
Will we all fight together 4 the most important cause?
Will we all fight 4 the right 2 be free?
Free (Be glad that U r free)

...not spoiling certain individuals who exhibit behaviour of brats when they cannot do what they want in any manner they want? or, for not allowing his image on a site where he is slandered because of protecting that which is rightfully his?

if what ur saying is true, then why is ur avatar a picture of prince then? if prince org were 2 take down every single picture down, then ur avatar would not xist now would it?
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Neither have I!! biggrin

oh...then you havent seen any of my reports on his concerts....nor my views on The Truth album or my opinion on the snippet from his new video.

Just because you don't notice all of my comment's doesn't mean that i am always negative...furthermore, am i not entitled to my own opinion? why turn this into a personal thing between you and i when all it is is folks sharing their opinion on art.

oh...cause prince doesn't want that...oh yeah, i forgot. rolleyes

there can never b any negativity about prince ever rolleyes big grin god 4bid that u state that ur sick and tired of hearing purple rain live when u would rather hear songs like joint 2 joint instead. or that u have an opinion 2 this whole matter that goes against those that worship him down 2 his toe nails. PFUnk is a funky track no doubt, but still it doesn't overshadow the issue at hand..his control issues that have plagued him since he began his career. music is seperate from the individual that produces it.

Anyone would would seek legal protection if they were being abused and used!

if this was true, then the likes of david letterman, jay leno and the daily show would b off the air in a heartbeat.
