Newbie. Ha! Just because I don't fuckin' live out my life running my number of posts up on Prince discussion board.

I'll guarantee I've been visiting the org A LOT longer than you.

So, to you, Welcome to the Org.

Judging by your writing style, you haven't lived out a lot of your life in school, either. It's understandable why you don't post a lot. Your writing style leaves much to be desired.

Newbie.

Touche'

My "writing style" is seriously rusty due to the fact that I don't spend my every waking hour posting on internet discussion boards, such as yourself.

Over 9,000 posts in four years! Think about that.

Geez dude, spend some time with your family.

I find myself humming a different melody every day, even songs like All The Midnights in the World, which I thought I didn't like. I find myself singing The One U Wanna C, and "so shall it be written, shall be sung." That's something I haven't been able to say about a Prince album for a while. It's honestly crept into my head, the way good (and bad!) pop music does.

But then there's the sensual R&B side, that while I don't knock the songs, I find the whole thing duller. Prince is getting a divorce and this album is about finding him another hottie. He can do that on his own time.

I liked Mr Goodnight initially, but now I realize what's wrong with it. This is a short album. Why would he waste precious cd real estate on something that's fun the first time, but, in the end, empty? For a cd called Planet Earth, half of the album focuses on the wants & needs of just one individual.

I've got no problem with sexy R&B, but I wish he'd focus. PE is basically an uptempo rock album. Why not go all the way? Why kill it with Somewhere Here on Earth so soon?

Again, I don't knock any individual song, I like them, but the album focus and song placement is what I question.

yea i agree with all of this really. i like each song but the placement seems off in the context of an album.

Wow, people are still posting in here!

Well, my view of the album hasn't really changed since I first heard it back a few weeks before it's initial release. Lion Of Judah has grown on me A LOT, I just wish he'd either use a deeper voice or more of a soft voice cause the nasally tone doesn't suit it. I like the very purple rain esque guitar at the start.

I still love Mr Goodnight and Future Baby Mama. Chelsea is good for a dance but the lyrics bug me. He can't keep the religious talk out of the funkiest track on there. Ruins it. Thank god he didn't put any in mr goodnight or FBM.

I think he should keep going with R&B, the R&B tracks on here to me are the strongest. I don't think his voice is strong enough to keep up with rock in the studio (live is fine I'm guessing?). He should stick with his deeper voice or the falsetto from now on. His normal voice is too nasally and unpleasant to listen to.

Instant classic CD...woot!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

His normal voice sounds great too me on here . the way he sings the rock songs works well an is pretty powerful .. GUITAR is sang nasal .. but i am sure that aint cos his voice is fading .. it will have been a choice of his mto sing it like that . maybe he thought it sounded cuter/sexier? lol .. I dont know . we live an learn . His voice is not a problem ..an i am sure he can sing however he wants but he didnt choice to sing it how u wanted .. personally i dont mind the nasal style .,i am a KINKS fan after all lol... but just cos it works 4 GUITAR dont me it will work 4 everything .. he will belt em out from the gut most of the time

oh yeah . i almost forgot why i was here ...This album in all honesty .. is one of his best damn albums ever an maybe it is the best .. i just keep playing it .. it has a more classy pop kinda feel too it ..MJ/HIstory .I hate to compare prince to MJ . cos he is 10 times better an i dont think that these are like MJ songs .. but this album has that feeling like u are listening to premiure league artist playing at his best .. An thats what MJ was an thats what prince has always been. but seems to be even more so on this album ...MJ woulda killed 4 songs like Plannet Earth an Somewhere Here On Earth

Whats wrong with that?, aint all single men trying to find another hottie?
the album tackles alot of other issues an aint just about that . but 2 or 3 of the songs pay attention to wanting to have someone special in his life am the problems/fears he will face as a millionaire rockstar LION OF JUDAH who is trying to build something new with someone new ..love,marraige,divorce are important life issues for nearly all of us.. so that an thats cool . i am sure after 2 failed marraiges that this kinda thing is gonna spill out into his work .. an i like the way that this time he seems to be focusing forward an paying attention to more positive things .. rather than RAVE UN2 THE JOY FANTASTIC .which was kinda reliving the pain . till the last couple of songs ..
Anyone with a heart an a sex drive appreciates these kinda songs .. too right i spent alot of my life looking 4 a new hottie .even when i had found one . so its good to have music that most people can relate to .. or maybe its just us horny toads? lol

nothing wrong with love as a subject matter, but Mr Goodnight in particular feels like it's less about music and more about impressing the lovely ladies listening that Prince is single again.

It's less about the subject matter and more about the creativity. Mr Goodnight just doesn't grow. Like I said it's cute the first time but it doesn't move me. Perhaps it will move some young lady, though, and if so good for Prince.

I'm also just getting jaded, and I'm starting to wonder how much Prince is actually looking for love, and how much he's looking for someone who will mesh with the uber-controlled lifestyle he has in mind for his arm candy lol

thats a good point, seen as you put it like that. an some of these songs are kinda like he is trying too hard to impress with Having alot of money an using it as the bait .which is kinda shallow an flash . unlike the days of RASPBERY BERET or BABY I'M A STAR ..which were more personality based .I thought the same with THE ONE . he is selling himself way too hard an Bragging an Showing off aint an appealing quality unless done humourously .. but i think MR GOODNIGHT is ment to be humourous (at least i hope) but the spoken part in FUTURE BABY MOMMA is kinda sad ..an makes me cringe .. if he things thats what he needs to do to find love . he aint gonna find it .an the kinda women that will impress wont love him 4 him .. i said that when i heard these songs .. maybe its cos he is getting older he thinks he aint gonna get the hotties without been like that? .. the whole thing is debatable an THE ONE U WANNA C is lovely an inocent an just seems genuine . yeah its got the line I GOT ALOT OF MONEY ect .. but seems more just fun an generocity than the others ..if he REALLY is looking for love . lets hope he doesnt pick someone who is 22,a gold digger,a child to manipulate or anything else superficial that will feed his ego an make him there world .. get a strong independant woman .with views of her own an has experienced an overcame many things in life .. this is properly never gonna happen .... but perhaps SOMEONE CLOSE TO HIS OWN AGE .with as many years of life experience .who he can learn from an vice versa. that would be cool to see an more likely to last.

Has anyone got a purchased copy of the album with a booklet or any other collectable release?

I have read that there is a digipak with Hologram cover.

Apologies if this has been discussed already.

After listening to Planet Earth now for several weeks, I am really diggin' this album from start to finish.

My only complaint is that, once again, it feels like a collection of songs rather than a cohesive album. Except for The Rainbow Children, this seems to plague all of Prince's releases since Emancipation. The songs don't seem to share any common themes, either musically or lyrically.

With that being said, I really feel that this is Prince's strongest "collection of songs" that he has released in a good while. Much stronger material on this album than either Musicology or 3121.

With a little more focus I think this album could of have moved a little closer toward the "classic" level in Prince's catalog.
