In his catalogue there are so many examples that Prince is just not user friendly: no lyrics, no track markers, annoying cutscenes between the songs, absurd voices etc.

Tremolina

I had a discussion with a friend of mine whether Prince was still coasting on this new CD. She thought he is, I wasn't sure, because in my opinion especially the 1st 3 songs sound like he is really trying to make an effort. But put it together with the rest, the entire package, and after listenening to it 5 times more, I have to say that it all starting to sound very familiar, like something that has been done various times before, the 1st 3 songs maybe excluded.

Lovesexy still is one of the many overlooked, grand moments in Prince's elaborate and diverse career. Aside from the disturbing cover, it was an artistic triumph of his personal expression on spirituality and love, and I don't think the much of the public and some of the critics understood that. It was never my personal favorite, but it deserved (and still deserves today) to be an amazing record. It kept him on the straight and narrow road, artistically.

We all can agree with that, however Lovesexy did not get "beloved" status until the 1990's with the masses.

Personally speaking I did not feel Lovesexy until late 89 and 90.

Prince's music is like that ,but with the internet and many with co-dependent mental illness folks will not let the album digest in their minds.

and yet, i couldnt get enough of love sexy when it came out

especially on the tails of the black album boot

which really all goes to show what i am saying

its all a mix of perception and where you are at

at the time

you could be breaking up with your one true love when sign of the times is released and

then and therefore

forever detest the album for that and no other reason

IMHO

so what do you call folks like yourself that have to justify other's dislike for something you appreciate?

its really pathetic that folks feel they have to defend their own taste...just like what you like and stop with the third grade psychology.

Imago

First, let me say that it is in heavy rotation on my CD-player.

I like all the songs, except Lion of Judah, which is at least catchy, so it doesn't offend my ears or anything--it's just not my type of song. It's a nice, breif, catchy album.

That being said, I hope these songs don't mark a trend. lol I also think in the large scheme of things, it will be one of his less remembered albums, kind of like how Around the World in a Day got lost in the shuffle of his other brilliant 80's albums (don't yell at me folks--I love ATWIAD).

I have to say I like the "Planet Earth" album. It shows so many different sides of Prince and that's a good thing, a little bit of something for everyone-rock,soul,blues/jazz all wrapped up in one. CD cover is nice too.

I am not sure how anyone who calls themself a Prince fan can hate this album---it shows without a doubt that Prince can easily crack off the catchiest pop melody whenever he feels like it.

I don't know if I hate it, but anyone who is a Prince fan has known for decades that he can crack off the catchiest pop melodies etc.

I want more than that. These were supposed to have been the years of maturation. After TRC it looked like he was heading towards becoming some elder statesman of contemporary music, where he wouldn't have to chase hits to fund some unreal self-created media image and instead he could indulge in his talent. Xpectation, N.E.W.S., all those interesting one-off internet songs etc. etc., they made sense in a way. He was fumbling around for sure, but the songs and sounds were interesting. He seemed to be shaping an identity for the future.

Instead we get the past three albums. And various forms of creative marketing...

He needs to learn how to age.

Most of the songs on PE are really good.

And various forms of creative marketing...
This seems to be the point with Prince's latest albums. Marketing. My thoughts over the last few days, with most of the reviews of the album being buried in the news of his "scandalous" marketing scheme and the thought that me may team up with Starbucks, have brought me back, in some ways, to the "Slave" era.... or rather, this seems to be the next phase of that era. He is no longer the slave that he once felt he was. Now that he has had those experiences, he seems to be focusing on "the system" and showing ways to work around a "system" that no longer seems to be relevant.

In many ways, I feel some admiration for what he is doing, even if his releases leave a little something to be desired. (For the record, I have been enjoying the album quite a bit. I simply need more time to "feel" the album as a whole.) Fortunately, I feel as though I have gotten to a point where I can go along for the ride, enjoy what I can with what he offers, and look forward to the next "experience."

What do you call a moderator who enters in with an attack ?

It's all opinion. smile

Hey dislike is fine but you know that there are people who come on here and if the majority of people on here are agreeing with something "they" jump on the bandwagon.
I have read excellent posts giving valid reasons for the dislike of albums. I did agree with some and diagreed with others. The main thing is I listen to all the albums and like to make up my own mind. My opinion is that people are codependent with their particular love of a Prince album. They want you to love or hate the way they they feel. Then they get offended when there is a dislike. Personally speaking I like them all so I dont care if you dislike anything, but I get tired of seeing EVERY Prince album attacked within days of release .Then 3 years later the same people who attacked the album are praising it as a classic?

BTW my minor is in psychology so it's not 3rd grade.

Ok, so I just pick up the cd(s), yeah bought two. Check out the intro's to all some before I go to work. I carry a clear handbag, bosses rule! And of course I carried my cd(s) with me. Made sure everyone saw the cd case. And. Anyway, one of my co-workers says "I'm a Prince fan" how's the cd". I explained that I haven't heard it yet. She tells me yeah she's still in the Purple Rain era confused Ya need to get up to date girl. So lunch time rolls around and off to McDonalds. Got a chance to hear "Somewhere Here on Earth". Blew me away! I know i'm in for a treat. "The One You Wanna C" got me rocking. On my way home, I randomly check out a few more (10 minute drive), and ended the night, really no kidding, on "Mr. Goodnight". "Chelse Rodgers" darn good groove. This is a cd that I can turn on to those who aren't P fans, and to those who gave up. Now I still checking out the cd, "Future Baby Momma", nice. I hear a mixture some old and new P. Oh yeah, the hologram cd cover, Love it cool .

lol lol lol I LOVED him on the Muppet Show and I DO think he could pull off a skit with The One U Wanna C, that sounds the most "pop" to me. I'm ok with Planet Earth as a whole. Soulful slow songs, rockin Guitar and funky beat Chelsea (disco throwback, but I like it!) After a few times of hearing it, different songs are giving me different vibes. Mr Goodnight..so nice, All The Midnights..good feelings from this one and of course CHelsea just keeps geting me with the beat and instrumentation (but who is Chelsea?)

"Chelsea Rodgers" is really the only track i like, even though - or because - Prince is only a backup singer there, otherwise the other tunes from this EP...err sorry, from this LP are somewhere between OK, average and awful.

I think Prince should release only one album every 4 or 5 years, we'd have a really listenable LP then, he's not the inspired guy he used to be in the 80's. Period.
