I like this a lot. Great to hear W&L, and yea it reminds me 2 of Revolution era Prince. There's been a lot written on here over the years about Revolution vs NPG. The last 2 songs on this album to me satisfies the debate ( for my taste). These two songs sound like Prince, well structured actual songs, without 3rd rate rapping and machismo crap. 8/10

Love the "Revolution" sound...
Hate the title and religious imagery.
Was better off using metaphors like elevators rather than specifics that may be offensive to some

easily my favorite song on the album. also my favorite prince song of the new era prince starting with musicology. i love the revolution feel, and wish the rest of the album had this focus.

The Lion of Judah....yet another religeous song form Prince wrapped up in a pretty pop package most of the folks on this forum that hate when Prince says anything religion oriented don't even know it becuase they are so ignorant

Then teach us oh, wise one!

Actually it has nothing to do with being wise. It has more to do with folks on this board who aren't always aware when Prince is being religious. Like in this song. The Lion of Judah is Jesus Christ...and a lot of people don't realize that. Probably shouldn't have used the word ignorant (no matter how appropriate) because most times people assume a negative conectation. I find the posts regarding the song and the overwhelming positive vibe interesting.
Its two things for me...one most don't even know that the Lion of Judah is another way to refer to Jesus Christ....and secondly even those who do don't care one bit because the music sounds good...just like in the 80s (IWD4U, Anastasia, IKnow etc...)
In any case I think people get a little too sensitive about the word ignorant...it means lack knowledge...not dumb

does it offend you...if so how? If not.... how do you think a song with Prince singing about the Lion of Judah (or Jesus Christ) being his rock and helping him get through life...offensive? thanks

I would think the spiritual matters of the song was pretty obvious from the line "As my God is living". It's not like he's trying to hide it or anything.

This is very much "Cinnamon Girl" the sequel with more conservative full pop rock live arrangement.

LION OF JUDAH

Sitting on the floor of an all white room
Feeling like the color blue

Thinking about the words that I can use
2 get this through 2 U

A million mistakes and then some
I've made with the 1's before

I've probably passed my expiration date
But still I adore U
Adore U....

Looking 4 the energy 2 take U there
The places that U wanna go

Knowing if I do, U'r fully aware
The press will turn it in to a show (A show)

Everyone expects this outcome
But still they jump 4 all the [crew ?/ clues ?]

I guess I should be happy but I'm still not
Sure that U really love me.....
love me.....
love me.....
love me.....
U love me.....

Like the lion of Judah (Judah)
I'll strike my enemies down

As my god is living
Surely the trumpet will sound

There was 1 who would stand by my side
Through the the good and the bad

Let that 1 stand with pride
The best that I ever had
Like the lion of Judah

Driving away with a smile on my face
Wind blowing through my hair

Wondering how U'll feel when U find out
How much I really care ( care)

Hoping that the tears roll down ur face (Down ur face)
Your body grasp who we are (Who are we?)

2 gypsy beggers who only
by Vegas came 2 be a star
A super star
A star
That's what we are...

Like the lion of judah (Judah)
I'll strike my enemies down

As my god is living
Surely the trumpet will sound

Lion.....judah
Lion.....judah

Like the lion of judah (Judah)
I'll strike my enemys down
Like the lion of judah (Judah)
Surely U....gonna hear the trumpet sound
Hear the trumpet sound

(ohhh)
Lion....Judah ...
Judah.....

The lion of judah

One of the greatest Prince songs of all time.

A classic.

An absolute standout on the album.

Plus, to my ears, listening to the lyrics there is no particular religious theme, so I don't know why that's being mentioned here. The 'Lion of Judah' is referenced in terms of its strength only. If this song is 'religious', '7' must be gospel music.

What a terrible song!

The new album seems to be characterised by bad songs with whimpering melodies, which are then saved half way through by blistering and great guitar solos.

His guitar work is fantastic on this and the first two tracks, which bodes well for the live shows, but 3121 was a much better piece of work overall than this 'free CD'.

I'm disappointed on the whole...can't wait for the live shows though.

My final thought is that you're unlikely to hear any of this album played live, with the exception of Guitar, the title track and maybe Chelsea Rogers.

You're wrong about that. He's already played Guitar, as well as Shoe and The One You Wanna See live. Plus a part of Mr. Goodnight.

Man, this song is badass in CD quality. Sounds just as good as anything he's ever done. Not for everybody though. That's cool. Every song can't be adored by the masses.

Somewhere Here On Earth. I did a double take when I first saw someone talking about a song called "Shoe" then I figured it out lol. I think I'll stick to just typing out the whole name.

I think the religious references are as obvious as those in Let's go Crazy were, we don't tend to mind though cos its Prince. I was at Wembley in 1988 when he got the whole crowd singing God is Love Love is God - I'm no Christian but I joined in!

wink

That's an interesting point. Prince has always had a spiritual interest and it has always been an influence in his music and performance. It's only been in recent years people have started to object. I wonder why?

The Lion of Judah.....Wow, the lyrics are very personal. Although I have not heard the song. I can just imagine the emotion Prince sings with.

How ANYONE can call this song lame and tired, i just cant fathom.. they clearly need psychiatric treatment... the lyrics are fantastic, the vocals are deliberately timid at the start because he is expressing how he feels, and then the song changes , the lyrics change and his voice becomes stronger. Its the whole point of the song.

The guitar in this song is blistering, amazing and this song is one of his most powerful..

Comparing it to Cinnamon Girl is madness, these people are listening to another song.

I think this will become one of my all time favs along with AnnaStesia
