More recent stuff he's been playing live the last few years: 2002: Rainbow Children, Muse 2 The Pharaoh, Xenophobia, The Work Pt. 1, 1+1+1 is 3, The Everlasting Now, Family Name, One Nite Alone, Avalanche were played reguarly live. He also played She Loves Me 4 Me and Last December the odd time. 2004: Musicology, Dear Mr. Man, Life O The Party, On The Couch, Prince and the Band, 2006/7: Fury, 3121, Lolita, Black Sweat, Get On The Boat, Musicology. He's also played Beautiful, Loved and Blessed, The Word and Te Amo Corazon. He also played 'Reflection' with Wendy last week - a track that's only a couple of years old. So he's been playing a few recent songs live over the past few years. |

The fact that the Mail on Sunday website ad says "to find out how" rather than "get your free copy" suggests to me that some sort of phone call or letter will be required to get the CD.
In this case, it wouldn't get into the hands of so many. I'd imagine the Mail On Sunday would want to make some sort of money from this. I half expect a premium rate phone number to be used to gather address details from those who want their "free" copy, costing about £1.50 a call or something like that. So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young? | |

But it does say that the CD will have the same packaging as the released version. And there are many references to it be FREE INSIDE and all that, so I'm guessing that this week it'll simply tell you to buy next week's. This way, they get to promote the giveaway over two weekends instead of just the one. | |

From a number of these posts it seems like people are annoyed because Prince is giving it away free on his terms rather than the norm where some shmoe that happens to get an advance copy and posts it on the internet for umm lets see ... free. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The new Prince record is crap. Trust me.
He's giving it away because he's smart. He know's it's crap and he knows that it won't get played on the radio and he knows that it won't sell well in stores and he knows that the reviews will bomb. So he gives it way with tickets and newspapers in hopes that if it's forced on people it will do well....Christ, he's gone mad. Nobody cares. Not even this once very serious Prince fan. I'm over the ridiculousness. actually, if he knows it's a crap album, he's done something that's the exact opposite of mad. all the copies have been sold to Mail on Sunday, tons of people who wouldn't even buy a prince album if it were the best thing he'd ever done are getting a copy whether they want it or not, and prince already has his album sales profits made in one fell swoop. in this age where the fans would be circulating it online anyway, sounds like a pretty clean sweep to me, crappy album or no.  | |

My exact sentiments Prince should do his research before first selling his soul to the devil – a newspaper whose founder supported fascism, the most bigoted newspaper in the UK – we black here deserve some respect – it is not only Black Americans that are oppressed. Why do a deal with a newspaper that constantly writes venom against minorities be it refugees, foreigners, black youth culture etc- the reason this country is going to the dogs is because of foreigners etc – would you make a deal with a newspaper in the States that use to support or supports prejudice and bigotry. Prince I have supported most thing you have done in the past but out of the greater evil the music industry or the daily mail you have made the wrong choice this time – fine great idea – wrong newspaper and I for one will not under any circumstances be buying this newspaper to get a copy of your album | |

Prince is launching his new Planet Earth album as a free giveaway with a national Sunday newspaper in a move that has drawn widespread condemnation from music retailers. The 10-track CD will be available free with an "imminent" edition of the newspaper. Planet Earth will then go on sale on July 24. "It would be yet another example of the damaging covermount culture which is destroying any perception of value around recorded music. "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince should know that with behaviour like this he will soon be the Artist Formerly Available in Record Stores. "And I say that to all the other artists who may be tempted to dally with the Mail on Sunday." High street music giant HMV was similarly scathing about the plans. Speaking before rumours of a giveaway were confirmed, HMV chief executive Simon Fox said: "I think it would be absolutely nuts." "I can't believe the music industry would do it to itself. I simply can't believe it would happen, it would be absolute madness." Prince, whose Purple Rain sold more than 11m copies, also plans to give away a free copy of his latest album with each ticket sold for his upcoming string of concerts in London. The singer had signed a global deal as well for the promotion and distribution of Planet Earth in partnership with Columbia Records, a division of music company Sony BMG. A spokesman for the group said tonight that the UK arm of Sony BMG had withdrawn from Prince's global deal and would not be distributing the album to UK stores. "We think it is the right thing to do in the difficult retail market," he said. "We are delighted Prince has come back to a major label but this makes sense for the UK." The Mail on Sunday, owned by Associated Newspapers, has built up a reputation for music giveaways and this is not the first time it has drawn harsh criticism. It most recently clashed with musician Mike Oldfield over the giveaway of his album Tubular Bells. Still, the paper maintains that its covermount CDs of artists such as Simply Red, Madness and Dolly Parton stimulate interest in music and it has asked retailers to look at partnerships. "The Mail on Sunday is the biggest distributor of albums in this country," said Mr Miron. "We are saying to retailers we would be happy to engage in dialogue." Oh please. Trent leaked a couple of tracks as MP3s on USB sticks handed to fans at concerts, which was COOL. Then he streamed the album after a Polish guy got hold of copies of the album weeks before the release, sold some of those copies on an eBay-like site, and rips from those leaked albums appeared on p2p. End result for Trent: ZERO PROFIT. And now he's making the multi-track recordings of some of the tracks available via his site so fans can make their own remixes with quality source material. End result for Trent: ZERO PROFIT. Oh, and he cancelled the release of the second single when he found out that the Australian branch of his record company were overpricing his album "because NIN fans will pay lotsa money anyway", and that the previous single was imported for excaggerated prices into the US. End result for Trent: ZERO PROFIT. What did Prince do? Come up with yet another lame publicity stunt that is coupled with him getting a big payday. Meanwhile his fans get screwed (because non-UK fans either have to try to obtain copies of the givaway via ebay or wait till it arrives in shops much later), and at the same time he helps promote a disgusting newspaper. © Bart Van Hemelen
