So there will be no cd inside the issue of July 1st. Perhaps in the next one..

Prince has always been way ahead of the rest both in terms of music and in terms of being a visionary.

He used the internet to supply music to his fans long before it became the norm and now he is using a newspaper to give away his new album. Some will criticise this move (no doubt the record shops) as he will be missing out on revenue from CD's sold, but I am sure that we will see CD sales of his last few albums and back catalogue rise after fans of old rediscover him with this giveaway and new fans are won.

I was one of the lucky few who saw Prince at the Koko club in May and have seen him live on several occassions throughout the years and I cannot wait to see him at the brand new O2 this summer. They may have to rebuild it oce he is done because something tells me that he is going to take the roof off of that place...

i am a huge prince fan, he is my favourite artist. i adore him and have done for years, he is an innovator and he is always looking for new ways to give back to the fans, this is just another example of this. i am lucky enough to be attending 5 of of the tour dates (all i could afford) and i cant wait to hear his latest project, this will be a vehicle to also promote his music to new people, i am 19 and i think this would be a great way to also reach more people of my age as well as older people too. i will buy the jewel case version of this from overseas at a slightly later date,and i can get this really soon by the sounds of it and have a keepsake of what is going to be a very princely summer! i love it! prince doesnt get even half the respect and attention he deserves. he is full of surprises and he is as talented as he is beautiful. this is yet another very clever and surprising move from prince, and it shows that he well and truly owns his music which is what he is about anyway!xx

Prince wasn't a pioneer, and even sadder is that he's still one of the worst students in the class. Funny how you lot are still whining about WB, a company he left OVER A DECADE AGO, while giving Prince a free pass every frikking time.

Remember when Prince did world tours? Remember when Prince did concerts that didn't cost an arm and a leg? Remember when Prince liked playing live? Remember when Prince actually released music on a regular basis -- and it was GREAT music, not instantly forgettable "will this do" crap.

I've just heard a Felix Da Housecat remix of When Doves Cry (illegal of course), and it pisses me off that he had to use the released mixdown instead of the original multitrack. When will Prince wake up and realise that nobody cares about the dreck he excretes via yet another tired major label deal or dumb publicity stunt, and that us fans care about a) remasters, b) vault tracks, c) pristine live recordings.

And if he wants to be hip: allow current artists like Justice, Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco, Basement Jaxx et al to remix his back catalogue. But not his latest pathetic attempt at a hit: nobody cares about that. Least of all Prince. Don't believe me? How many tracks from his latest albums does he play live? He knows damn well that his old stuff is the good stuff, that's why he does "Girl" with Wendy.

its funny, ti hated the newspaper idea when i first heard i thought it was kind of cheapening but the more i think about it the more brilliant an i dea it is its him proving he is in complete conttrol of his music and maximising exposure. pure genius. i take back any negative thoughts i had about it earlier!

I've not seen any ads on TV yet so I'll be surprised if the CD is going to be included inside this Sunday's edition. They normally advertise an included CD on TV for a good few days before the paper's publication date.
That said, I hope I'm wrong.
If there are TV ads tomorrow for Sunday, then it'll be all over the Org and we'll know for deffo. But right now, I've personally not seen any ads for it.
Pleeeease will somebody now say that they've seen the ads and I've obviously missed them.

The Mail on Sunday is a fucking hateful rag, and even the lure of a new Prince album cannot draw me to purchase such a piss-poor excuse for a newspaper. Let's face it, by the time this summer is out we'll have no shortage of spare copies of Planet Earth lying around anyway. I'll be wallpapering my house with the inlays.

I must say too that I find this type of publicity stunt to be rather distasteful. It's nice that Prince is getting some media coverage for the London shows... but this cheapens the music (literally and figuratively). It seems like a desperate and misguided act - let's face it, Prince isn't growing his audience to a huge extent in 2007. He's established enough by now and has a large enough following that he'll fill The O2 many times this summer without even trying, and that should be enough.

If he really thinks giving away freebie copies of his latest work along with the Mail on Sunday will win him any new fans, he's living in a fantasy world. Twenty years ago your average Mail reader would be burning effigies of Prince and waving pitchforks and torches outside Paisley Park. Now he's putting his album as their fucking covermount? I'm not sure which party should be more embarrassed by this - maybe Prince and the Mail deserve each other. What PR genius thought Prince and the Mail would be a good match?

If you get all moral on it, then you also have to question Prince's own Jehovah's Witness stance right now. You may as well question buying bootlegs when, apparently, a lot of their sales are funding organised crime.
Oh, and it's not as if the music shops aren't greedily making more money per sale than the artist is if you buy music through them.

Ultimately, if you're going to have morals then you probably shouldn't be buying music anyway because somewhere along the line, there'll be at least one person in that chain that will have strong views that you'll disagree with. At least with The Mail On Sunday, you'll know that they're open about their views.
