Peter king is right on the money.
so what if p had a #1 album? it was short lived #1 album.
the fact is
his previous albums sold using his old popularity and some good pr moves.
just like mj doing billy jean million times, p does let's go crazy million times to sell his new records.
p is still living off of his old hits and old memories to promote himself.
3121 does not have any hit singles.other than hardcore fans, no one cares.
p cant generate any interest with new singles. he has to plug in some old hits.

3121 album did not have #1 hit single or anything close to #1 hit.
that's why it was short lived #1 album.

i like p but he can no longer pump out #1 hits like he used to.

how the FUCK is he supposed to get a #1 single without airplay????
Check it out ...Shiny Toy Guns R gonna blowup VERY soon and bring melody back to music..you heard it here 1st! http://www.myspacecomment...theone.mp3

Latest Sports Illustrated comment on Prince (different writer)

http://sportsillustrated....nts/1.html

....

"Is it just me, or is Prince starting to morph into a slightly younger version of Little Richard in those NFL Network commercials about Super Bowl XLI"?

LOL!! I'm sorry, I have to agree. This has to be the most accurate observation by a non-fan in quite a while.

I'm a huge football fan at all levels and also a big fan of Sports Illustrated's head football writer, Peter King's Monday Morning Quarterback column. Unfortunately, Mr. King decided to take a mean shot at P performing at halftime. Read the quote for youself.

1/14/07 http://sportsillustrated....ffs/6.html
"Good thing the NFL is promoting the Prince Super Bowl appearance so heavily. It would also be a good idea to promote some of his music, because he hasn't had a song any of the human race has heard since, oh, about 1999."
(Obviously, he's referring to the song and not the year)

I think that even though he's a sportswriter, he can't possibly have missed the buzz surrounding Prince's recent resurgence as a leading figure in mainstream music. And I'm sure much had been made of this among NFL circles when he was selected to perform.
I'm guessing he really enjoyed that joke of a performance by the Rolling Stones or the Snoozefest Paul McCartney put on a few years back.

So what do you think?

Don't even worry about it Peter King is an ass and frequently makes statements about subjects he knows little about... even when they relate to sports. lol

I believe he said the following:

"Prince, Schmince." neutral

"Sitting next to Rick Reilly in the press section. 'You know what I call Prince?' he said before halftime. 'Not 'The Artist Formerly Known as Prince.' But 'The Artist Formerly Known.''"

and

"I did not understand the pregame show or the halftime show."

He waxed poetic about Billy Joel- no mention of the last time that guy had a song anybody heard...and wrote the Prince schmince...
While Prince has been widely praised for his performance he's met some criticism from many middle aged, white sports journalists. It's total bias- Billy Joel, Springsteen, rolling stones, mccartney- they can get up on the stage and fart and these guys would be praising them to no end. There was nothing prince was going to do that was going to "impress" them. Sad but true. I send King a quick note- not that he'll see it- basically saying so joel sings off key and it's a one of a kind performance and prince shreds the guitar a delivers a performance that spans rock, blues and funk and "prince/schmince"-stick to football analysis.

Must be a sport's guy thing. Another sportswriter, Norman Chad, wrote an almost identical comment in his column this morning. Of course this guy's main claim to fame is announcing poker on TV so obviously he knows about music too.

You can't please everybody. P please a good 75-80% of 150 million people...that's good enough.
All good things they say never last...
