There are 2 types of people in the world - those who believe what the Sun newspaper tells them and those who actually know that the Sun newspaper reports as much truth as a George W speech... I can't in all honesty believe that anyone in their right mind would, could slate Princes performance that night. I've got mates who over the last 20 years cannot stand Prince but who all admitted what a great musical performance that was... I can't see Chris Evans slating the guy. Don't believe this comic of a newspaper.

Ermm, it's not just the Sun, it is on his own blog, go to the bit on the 'Nana's first post where it gives you the link.

The crowd didnt start to dig him until he did his Purple Rain/Lets Go Crazy
medley.
Te Amo Corazon and Fury imo could have been left out.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

I have to respectfully disagree.

There are all sorts of brilliant artists who lead very sane, balanced lives.

The notion that with great genius comes great madness is a myth that has enabled a lot of selfish behaviour in our time (with approximately 86.3% of it attributable to Prince nod).

I had a thought, I assume Evan is calling Prince's set self-indulgent because he was given 12 minutes to play what he wanted. Well, he didn't seem to think it self-indulgent when Prince played an entire extra song after the end of the performing Baby Knows on TFI Friday - he went onto show the unplanned extra footage of Prettyman the following week!

Prince is a legend to me, but to the UK music industry/population in general he really is nothing and most people really don't care for him or his antics.

I don't think that is true. He is still regarded as a legend, maybe a has-been legend, but a legend nevertheless. If he was nothing the UK music industry/population wouldn't have been fawning over him to go to the Brits and the UK Hall Of Fame.

quote]

Exactly! How many other artists have been given 12 mins at the Brits over the years? I'm sure it's very few (apart from the lifetime achievment winner at the end). The fact that he was given such a large time slot, for no other reason than he agreed to turn up, is proof of his high standing in the UK music scene.

Ace I respectfully disagree with your choice to disagree. If you followed P for a long time you'll come across a great musician with many instances of erratic and weired behavior. Call it selfish call it what you want, If you were planning some time with P and the day called for reservations you better be ready to be change your planes. You'll be waiting for your dinner date and he'll get the ideal to suddenly jump into the studio and record a new cd or singel or suddenly without notice perform at a night club without planning. In the end the genius and quirks and selfish habits stands up. Read a lot of history and you'll see this to be true. Anyways we can agree to disagree, I am a little selfish and the genius runs through me. Just kidding wink

I think you misunderstand me: I am agreeing with you that Prince is very selfish and self-indulgent (he must be a nightmare "friend"/husband disbelief).

What I'm sayin' is that there are plenty of great artists who are not assholes. I love Prince's music and if such a thing as a "musical genius" exists, he is one. But there is no disputing that he is a crazy, selfish, lying prick. I say this with the greatest of respect, of course. biggrin

That "Sun" is known all over the world for their trash and one man's opinion has never swayed me. That Brits performance may have been self indulgent because Prince has known to be that, but I'll bet it rocked the house like nobody else could, I see a year later he still hasn't forgotten it!

If you read the blog in detail, he also said the following:

"I threw several bands off TFI, it was really funn they couldn't believe, Bjork was being a total arse one day and i just told her to go, four hours before transmision, she thought it was a joke until I told the security guards to escort her off the premises.

The decision left an eleven minute hole in our running order, so I phoned a young director up called Guy Ritchie and asked him if he'd like to come on and talk about this new film I'd heard about called, "Lock, Stock and something," the rest as I'm sure you know is history, as now is Bjork, ha ha !"

If that is his attitude, I have to feel pity for him - Bjork, however weird she too may be, is a musical genius.

Claiming to have bumped her for that hack Guy Ritchie is sad - its like bumping Mozart for an in-depth interview with Salieri.

Who is the funky old fart, and why hasn't somebody slapped this bitch down. I mean, look at him - he looks like he gets more thrills dunking his head in a toilet bowl than listening to music. Come on, now!

That was my mean side, in case you haven't figured. This is my constructive side: If you can't say something nice, don't bother to say anything at all.

Cause he's a legend. If Stevie Wonder, or MJ wanted to do that, then they should be able to because of all the music they've provided over the years and Prince is in that category whether you or anyone else likes it or not. He just is.

and bjork is "quirky"....the only time her bahaviour could be deemed negative was when she and her child were being stalked by paparazzi...her instinct was to attack in order to protect her child...

womanscorned,

im going to politely ask you to discontinue with the race and homophobic baiting...if you want to have a discussion about race and homophobia then feel free to create a thread in the Politics & Religion forum but please dont use this forum to bait people into discussing your "perceived" notions of others.

thanks,
