Wow, there are some really poor arguments being made in this thread.

Because he's a pop star, that means it's okay for audience members to grope him? What kind of preposterous logic is that?

By that rationale, I suppose it's also okay then when a pop star gets stalked. I guess that just comes with the territory also, right?

Honestly, that's just absurd.

He gets paid to go out there and perform his songs, nothing more. Unless he invites any sort of contact as part of the show, you have no right to invade his personal space.
Oh PurpleKnight, your logic and rational post is ruining people's fun. biggrin

falloff it's neither logical nor rational to extrapolate that because i think touching a performer in concert is okay that therefore stalking is okay, too. big leap there.

TRUE STORY: during one of the soundchecks in Chicago for ONA, this one woman got really too close to the P man. She started pawing at him and trying to get close to him. He was sitting with the fans in the audience chairs. And he got MAD. He kept saying "ma'am, please, stay away", but she wouldn't listen. So finally Trevor came along and dragged her away.

Stymie, please, add your recollections of the event. biggrin [I wasn't there, btw, my friend was though, and she told me about it, but I always remembered it]

I am following both sides here. Personal space is understandable...OFCOURSE. But,I guess I really didn't take this topic on like a big, ethical right or wrong thing. The orger who posted was just offereing up an experience she had as a PRINCE FAN. Not a rapist, or stalker, or anything else. She was sharing it on Prince.org. It MIGHT be inappropriate but do you guys really want to have an arguement about APPROPRIATNESS and Prince? Has he always been appropraite? Sure, he has always acted from an artist/spiritual place--you might say--and fans act from a admiring, fan, kind of place--I might say.

Has he always acted just like his mama raised him? Nope. I mean, we could go on and on from here. I am just relating to this experience because I would be equally excited. We aren't just talking about a stranger on the street AND THAT DOESN'T MEAN that therefore it is cool to fondle him whenever we want....I just mean that it was one incident....within a highly charged event. I doubt she meant any disrespect or malice. I really do. Can't you all "properly raised" orgers realate at least a little to us wild ones????

Nah, I probably wouldn't have a problem with this person if she wasn't bragging from site to site about it and the only reason she's doing it is because she knows it ticks some people off cuz we get defensive of the guy. Actually, I think it's kinda sad and pathetic and in its way, hysterical. lol

Stymie, she's not bragging, she's sharing her excitement. She hasn't been in the front row and offered pizza by Prince before. She hasn't had him walk by her 6 different times. She did what felt to her a natural response in the excitement of a show.

Whether or not the response was right can have the org going in circles for days. People who say it wasn't right aren't going to change their minds, and vice versa for the other side. Whatever. We can all disagree.

But I will say that you are wrong to say that she wrote what she did...
because she knows it ticks some people off cuz we get defensive of the guy.

That's just not true.

another perfect example, along with the woman who kissed him, of inappropriate vs. appropriate.

Oh Jeez, the girl reached out and "touched" his chest. Not pawed, grabbed, squeezed and other invasive procedures like prostate exams. The man doesn't have titties so filing sexual harrassment suits and the like is laughable. She was excited and in the moment. To turn this innocent little venture into such a huge tirade against her like she grabbed the guy's dick or something is crazy.

Heck, I've seen some fine ass guys out in public and I have walked up and touched their hair, remove lint balls or pushed in tags sticking up out of collars and I've yet to have any of them not welcome the attention. I've gotten the same. As long as they aren't touching my privates or being aggressive, I don't mind if it's done with a good heart. People are getting so uptight these days.

I guess I'm just a old hippy,

Holy crap! People are really upset about this! All I can say is that I would not want some person I didn't know from Adam coming up to me and touching my chest. No way, not having it. I don't know. It just seems so.....icky. Sorry, I'm not trying to disrespect the person that posted this. I wasn't there and didn't see exactly what happened. I am sure I would be excited if I was that close to Prince b/c he is F-I-N-E, BUT I wouldn't touch him. That's just me. I would be embarrassed for myself. Yes he is famous, but he is a man first. Just because we are in awe of him doesn't give us the right to touch. Sorry, just my thoughts.

What's the big deal? people! Get over it. Prince is fine. Many more fans will try to touch him again.

Let's not speak for the man. He'll be the one judging what is appropriate or not. Some fans he doesn't mind, others he does. That's his decision, his body and his bare chest...after all.

I agree with you here Malbena. This shouldn't be making people as upset as it is. I personally would have a problem with it, but Prince is a big boy. I think he can handle himself.

Peace to all.

Right. If she would have truely been out of line within that context (huge pop legend, star-struck fan etc., etc.) his people would have put her out right then and there. No doubt about it.

As long as she's singing karaoke, since that means impersonating a pop star, who are just fulfilling the role of one who gets groped. Or hell, even if she's singing in the shower. Get right on in there and soap up her tits.

lol

Ok kids, one more time...his bodyguards were REMOVING people's hands when they were grabbing him. Does that tell you he welcomes the uninvited contact? If by chance, they didn't catch her or have her thrown out, doesn't mean he liked it.

If you treat him like a regular person, he'll do the same with you. Which means, you don't touch people you don't know unless they say you can. capiche?

As for how it affects the rest of us, it just makes him think that his fans can't control themselves, so he can't be around us freely in the crowd. Damn, how hard is that to understand?!?

At Celebration 2002 he walked past me and I thought about it but didn't want to risk him being offended or Trevor(his head bodyguard at the time) throwing me to the ground. Then I also took into consideration how fortunate I was to be allowed into Paisley Park Studios, which I'm sure is like a home to Prince.I think from what I've read and been told Prince wouldn't welcome some stranger gropping him.I would want him to respect me, so I didn't do what would have come as a natural instinct.I gave him his respect and didn't reach out to touch him.I love this man so much, I know how tempting it must be to touch him when the opportunity rises, but he is a human being with feeling and morals. smile

Wow ... I had no idea this post would get so much response. The response is almost as exciting as touching the chest (Well, not really). When he walked by me, he slowed down, I reached my had out toward his arm, and my hand accidentally (but thankfully) touched his chest. I had some guilt over it. I even wondered at that time if I could actually reach out to him because I wanted to honor his space. But the fact is, I felt he was open to touches. He was reaching out to people, people were reaching out to him, and I think he came out into the audience because he wanted to be comforatable with that connection. I'm a big fan, but definitely not a stalker. And I touched him ... I didn't grab or hurt him. I reached out slowly, so he could see and stop me if he wanted to. Yes, I had the same concerns you do. But in the end I'm so glad I did it. I've loved that man's music for 25 years now. He is my hero and my idol. I've been to concerts and wished so much I could be closer. I will always remember the experience. That may sound like a 15-year-old crazy person instead of the 40-something stable mother with a 9-to-5 boring job and an inflated mortgage ... but that's my story.
By the way ... I definitely was not bragging. I was so excited, and I was hoping to share that here. This is the one place I felt safe to open up with all the emotions that come from Prince's style and music. I didn't mean to offend. I was just happy and wanted to share.

Ok, what part about respecting other people do you not understand? After all the replies here, you say you'd do the same?? Just because it's Prince, does NOT make it ok to touch him. No matter what you think, this isn't an "it's my opinion" type of thing.

It's crap like this that makes him think so many of us are nuts. neutral

At the Emporium aftershow in 95, Mayte stage dived off a speaker. I was at the front, and like everyone, we put our hands up to stop her falling to the floor. I ended up accidently clasping her "beatle bonet".

Now, I didn't ask her to throw herself at me. So was I technically molested by Mayte's beaver?????
