It's between 31-21 among my favorite Prince albums.

It's not in my Top 10, either. It's barely hanging on in my Top 20, at #17 - between Prince and The Rainbow Children.

If I play the CD at least 3 times the first day I have it, it is a top 5 (Parade, Chaos and Disorder,Musicology, prince, and Lovesexy). If I find my self listening to it more and more later it joins the top 10 (Rave, 1999, Emancipation, D&P, Dirty Mind)

Of couse Purple Rain and SOTT are in the top, but they are in a different category in my book. they are above number one.

I have listened to 3121 twice. It isn't bad, in fact it is good. But not in heavy rotaion.

On my scale it is above
Prince
The Truth
Rainbow Children

It is better than the Rainbow Chitlins, but that's not saying much.

I agree and I also agree with the poster who said it is better than, The Rainbow Children.

"Fury" and "Black Sweat" have instantly became Prince favorites of mine. I'm discovering the rest of 3121 slowly. I don't mind, "Beautiful, Loved and Blessed." (It is quickly growing on me.) I'm sure within like 6 months, I will REALLY dig this album.

I enjoy it. I think only some one who just got into prince would say that it is.

For me it's absolutely Top 5!

And it is still growing on me.

The use of keyboards and synths is the best he ever did!

And even each song has a great and also different guitar-solo! Or lesten to the Piano on The dance and The boat - phenomenal!!!

Bottom 20's. Such a shame too. I can honestly say I've never been bored with a Prince album so quickly.

I was just wonder if 3121 is anyone's favorite Prince album now that we've heard it? Sorry if this topic has been brought up before. Personally for me, beyond the Batman soundtrack and the B-Sides Disc, it is up there as one of my favorites. I love 3121!!!! smile

falloff
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

Is it my fav? No definately not.

Is it in my top ten? Hmmm... right now i would likely say yes. But ask me this question in 5 years from now and you may get a different response.

I really enjoy the album for the most part. I rate it favorably compared to most other Prince albums. But.. I know some of that is by virtue of it's new-ness.

It's not uncommon for a new Prince album to be amoung my favorite at that time... only to later meld into the mesh pot of typical Prince fare (which is still by the way good music) Rave Unto the Joy Fantastic and Diamonds & Pearls are typical of this for me.

On the flip side.. other had after time becme favs when at first.. i really wasn't feelin them as much. Lovesexy and The Rainbow Children fit this bill

It's a damn good album, but not my favorite by a longshot. It's top 10 material though, no doubt.

I'm a relatively new prince fan (3-4 years) and only since 3121 have I decided to actually buy any albums, I have a lot of stuff on my computer but I decided to get hard copies. anyway, hearing lovesexy and parade for the first time (the first two I bought) they are not that dissimilar to 3121, I mean yeah stylistically but I don't think prince has lost anything between making these albums and 3121, I think a lot of people who criticise it have maybe overplayed prince (not in a bad way) but you just come to expect something better and better each time and don't get it, but with 3121 he certainly hasn't fallen off par.

So yeah so far from the albums I do have (parade lovesexy purple rain d&p symbol) i do rate 3121 quite high although not quite favourite.

Sorry I don't agree. I've been a Prince fan since 1981 and I feel the past albums have only had a few good songs. The last album that I felt was good was TGE. And even that album was just so-so for Prince. I'm not sure why, but there hasn't been an album that has had that "Edge" that Prince used to have. Not since Lovesexy.
