Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

i was talkin about those who said it wasn't going to happen, including Tower Records staff themselves
and if NPGMC is going to keep sayin' that it ain't true 'til we hear it from them first, then i'm gonna keep on callin' 'em on it[/quote]

fair enough! though I don't see how 'URTHE1' could have known that when you replied to his post saying white lies, deception etc. I understand that if it was an ongoing saga for the past couple of hours then you'd be a mite annoyed though, but thats what it seemed like you were saying.

my point re the npgmc was merely that personally I don't understand why they'd need to be the ones to break the news first, as this is getting the word out for 3121 etc and if it was 100% full of NPGMC nerds it wouldn't really be doing that. whereas if it was a mix then it'd be better promotion. as it turns out, the NPGMC did announce it 'first' anyway!

By the time Melanie, the girl who called me, and I got down there, it was pushing 9:30. There was no way we were getting in at that time.

People who arrived at around 10:30 got in without a wristband. Should of tried harder.

I gotta tell y'all...that's not completely fair to say that, because that scene was a disorganized madhouse. Tower staff was saying one thing, Prince's people/security were doing other things...people were being threatened with arrest if they hung around...there were several hundred people, easily, begging and pleading and waiting to no avail. I can easily see how someone would have checked out all of that and realized "Hey, this ain't happening tonight; maybe next time..."

The odds of me getting in there were probably greater than those of someone finding a Purple Ticket in their CD case. After all the times I've missed out on rare situations like this one, I guess I was just due. Still don't know how it happened, but I'm thankful.

If it's any consolation, I will tell y'all this. The scene inside the store was raggedy as f__k. Why there was no elevated bandstand for Prince and Sheila is beyond me. If you weren't within the first ten feet or so of the taped-off line, you couldn't see anything anyway except rows of the backs of peoples' heads. I spent most of my time shuffling from one side of the store to the other, craning to catch a glimpse of anything going on. A damned shame and really unfair to the people who would have really loved to see The Man up close like that.

Just last week, West LA Music co-sponsored an album release event for rock guitarist Joe Satriani, where he performed with his band for free in an outdoor amphitheater just off Santa Monica Blvd. A thousand guests were accomodated and would easily have been an ideal set-up for this event. Tower Records was even there, selling Joe's new CD. If Prince had played there, we could have all been up in there and could have seen everything!!!

I saw Soul Asylum play at the Sunset Tower many years ago. Your description of the store set up sounds accurate. That place isn't ideal for a prince event. They should have done it at Amoeba Records, where they have a proper stage, if they wanted to do an in-store.

In any case, it still sounds like a fun time. cool

I agree Stax, that's what I thought, Amoeba. I've seen a few acts play there, the stage is perfect for in store jams.

Yo dude. If its any consolation to you... Tower did not know Prince was going to perform until 6pm yesterday and it was not confrmed until then.

I asked one of the guys what happened, why did Universal put together such an unorganized event and he said that Prince had his people call to find out if it was doable. Once they looked over the place the deal was done.

It was announced on radio by 6pm.

Thanx for posting that, player. It does help in the sense that at least I don't feel like I was lied to, u know. Hell yeah, it's still a drag that I didn't bounce up there much earlier, but...thanx for that anyways.

fair enough, it happens to the best of us. it just seemed like one of those psuedo-cryptic posts some people on here love making (you know the peeps i mean!). all sorted out now, seems horrible the tower staff were lying to people, but i don't think anything was confirmed until 6pm, and they decided to just say no rather than have 100s of people camping out their store all day! bit of a fiasco, but seems like those who got in had a great time! smile cool

That was my point exactly. I fell for them not being straight with me and got bit in the ass. I was upset with myself more than anything.
