Prince sued over '3121' mansion

NOTE: This happened in January. (There was apparently a settlement in February)

Smoking Gun reports :

Landlord sued singer over purple alterations to Hollywood manse.

MARCH 20--Claiming that his $70,000-a-month tenant Prince undertook an extremely tacky makeover of his Los Angeles mansion, an NBA star recently sued the mercurial singer over the purple-hued alterations. In a January complaint, Carlos Boozer, a forward with the Utah Jazz, sued Prince/MPG Music over unauthorized work done on the West Hollywood property, which is owned by the C Booz Multifamily I LLC. According to the lawsuit, Prince/MPG Music violated its eight-month lease by "painting the exterior of the [house] with purple striping, 'prince' symbol, and numbers 3121." Prince's new album, "3121," is scheduled for release tomorrow.

Proves the FAQ wrong about the address smile

I knew he was renting the place but I had no idea it was Carlos Boozer's property.

I didn't realize he was just renting it; I thought he bought the place. $70,000 a month??!!

I always thought he owned the place. Seems like he doesn't want to leave MPLS forever.

And I still say that his interior designer is on crack... biggrin

Me too. I was under the impression that he had the house. I mean he has enough money to buy it. Very interesting.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

When a professional basketball player thinks your interior decorating is tacky its TACKY!

Why didn't Prince just put a shampoo bowl in the bathroom instead of doing all that plumbing?

You've seen Paisley right? Prince's decorating tastes are so bad I believe he has trademarked the term "tacky".

The address revelation also lends credibility to the theory that 3121 is probably somehow Bible related.

this is a prelude to the imminent cancellation of this silly "purple ticket" contest. prince will claim he can't have the performance because the owner of the home will not allow it.

he'll then throw a huge thing at the park and charge everyone 31.21 for a ticket. no winners, no contest.

The guy is a "Loozer" because he is upset that Prince broke rental agreements including cutting large holes in bedroom walls amongst the other things listed.

I remember the Oprah show thinking that his place looked tacky. Also someone just the other day posted pictures from the new CD of the bedroom at 3121 with the words Satisfied and 3121 written on a blanket and pillows. Its just looked so damn childish and cheap.

That being said why would Boozer (a pretty good college basketball player for Duke just a couple of years ago a lesser pro) sue Prince over something like that. You sue when the tenant doesn't restore to its former state prio to him leaving. I'm a landlord so I know. Story sounds bogus

Well it sounded as if Prince was doing permanent damage. I mean cutting large holes through basement walls etc. But I'm sure Prince agreed to return to its former state and that is why the lawsuit was dropped.

I mean he gave Prince a "quit" order and he didn't listen so he had to take it to the next level with the lawsuit.

Seems kinda interesting that this surfaces a day before the album's release in the USA.

An exercise in P.R? I mean the scanned paper is dated November last year.

It always takes a while before records are updated. I really doubt this silly lawsuit would have any effect one way or the other on record sales. Prince used to get sued like every other day back when he had no money in the mid-nineties.

I always assumed the house was rented. In initial reports about the house, it was at least speculated once or twice that it was rented. The other reason is that I think Prince would spend months remodeling if it was going to be his property. In LA, he always did rent.

maybe its a reference to one of the following:

Psalms 31:21
Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.

Jeremiah 31:21
Set up road signs, make guideposts; set your heart toward the highway, even the way by which you went: turn again, virgin of Israel, turn again to these your cities.

Deuteronomy 31:21
And when many disasters and difficulties come upon them, this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten by their descendants. I know what they are disposed to do, even before I bring them into the land I promised them on oath.

Proverbs 31:21
She is not afraid of the snow for her household; for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
