O.K.! Think all of us Prince fams know what we need to do! Ain't nobody said it yet, but I will... All of us need to purchase the CD the day it's released(3/21)..

Anyone who is truely a fam knows that this absolute musical genius has provided us with the soundtrack of our lives. From the reviews that I have heard, the cd is da bomb, and is probably da bomb we all been waitin' for...so let's put him on top where he has been to us always so the others can experience real music and artistry. Ask yourself...where is the real music today? Most of it is bs. Let's make dude number one. He deserves it. Ain't no other male artist done nothin' like this for music before. Not like him.
biggrin

Well i have my copy ordered from play.com, really good price.

Militant and NewFunk, thanks so much for sharing your reviews. Question for you both: what are your other favorite Prince albums? Since you are both giving 3121 rave reviews, saying that it's the best he's done in years, etc., I would like to know what other albums gave you the sort of same feeling/excitment? Not that the style of songs is the same, necessarily, but more to give a frame of reference or context for your enthusiam.

Militant, you said it was your favorite since Lovesexy and NewFunk, you said you didn't really dig Musicology---how did you both feel about Gold & TRC? (Since a lot of people often cite those two albums as recent examples of better-than-average Prince albums.)

Thanks.

Very good question. My top three are SOTT, Parade and TRC. I'm all for experimental Prince rather than pop Prince.

I stand by what I said. It is the music and quality of much of it that has changed. The message has generally been the same Party, Love God, & Love Sex. The Cross is about as subtle as Gett Off. How many frigin songs to I have to run off. The guy has been pushing the good word for sometime..you don't care when it has a nice guitar solo, a catchy keyboard synth, or funky beat attached to it. Its as simple as that. What P talked about on TRC was nothing new..it was no different than Lovesexy.

Nobody is denying the fact that he's been spreading the good word for his entire career. It's the manner in which he does it that has become problematic.

PS - In reference to laurarichardson's presumptuous (and pretty ignorant) comment about athiest fans hearing "what they want to hear": I am a believer and I'm proud of it; but even I have been put off by P's preachiness of late.

Fury is fierce and catchy. The guitar work is amazing. Trust me. Now cowbells on this one, do not worry! I mean, can a song recorded in the studio ever sound as energetic as a studio cut? No way! But Fury is tremendous!

Good 2 hear! My dad asked me to burn hima copy of "Fury" after seeing Prince a the BRITS. lol

Already knew the song, already got the promo, already played it to death, wanted a smoke, not allowed to smoke inside, I could hear the tracks loud and clear from standing outside anyway, it's not like I missed anything. so Stfu.

I dont know what all this "return" shit is about ..... P has never been away ,i cant wait until the album is released BUT thats the same for every other album he's done in the 18 years ive been a fan.

Albums have come & dissapointed in places but on every 1 theres been at least glimpses of his genius BUT the fact that 3121 sounds like its gonna be plenty of genius does get me excited, musicology was weak mostly but even that had its moments .

Great review by the way & really looking 4ward 2 hearing the title track wink

I would say 3121, while experimental in parts, is nowhere near as avant-garde as TRC. 3121 is for all intents and purposes a POP record. And a very good one at that!

---The Conclusion---

Prince's MOST consistent work in years. Puts 95% of his 1990's output to absolute shame. .... Myself and Bobby are both BIG fans, and we agreed it was our favorite album since LoveSexy. Absolutely stellar, I haven't been this excited about Prince's material for a while. This one is for the fans, and to show everyone else who invented the electro-funk Minneapolis style that everyone tries to copy these days. And he still does it better than anyone else.

This album WILL be big. Mark my words. It's absolutely stellar, with very little filler. Out of 12 tunes, I would give 6 of them 9/10. Even the weakest track is still at least a 6/10.....Overall I would give the album 8/10.....it's the best thing I've heard in a long time....

Sorry my review was kinda brief, I've had a long day and I'm absolutely knackered.

BRAVO!!! Thanks you for that Review. I am indeed, once again, excited about an upcoming Prince album! I know where you're coming from when you say it's his best work since Lovesexy!!! That TRULY was is last GREAT album(thought RBC ablum was almost as inventive).

I can only hope I can feel the same way you do after listening to it, but I'm hopeful because it appears we're on the same page!!

Thanks again for your Review!

again it is not the message from TRC but the quality/kind of music which is the turnoff (not too me but to many of you)

He hasn't changed a bit as far as that is concerned

He might not have ever been gone completely, but Prince hans't been my version of Prince in a VERY VERY long time!!! You know, the one that actually made a name for himself back in the 80's...the one that made him a Musical Legend!

And "Positivity...YES", I understand when it comes to personal perception about what someone likes or dislikes, it's all relative anyway. cool

There's a big difference between spreading the word and being an arrogant and closed-minded browbeater. As a believer, I get furious when I hear fellow Christians rant that "you'll go to hell if you don't...." as if they are in tune with every decision God makes. All that does is turn people AWAY from God, and therefore it ultimately undermines their attempt to "save people".

I seem to remember how crazy you all got over how great you thought Musicology was, then I listen to it and think it is weak, so I will not hold out for greatness, until I hear the record my damn self.

Based on the reviews I am hearing this album seems to be in the same family as Gold, Rave, Emancipation, Diamonds and pearls and Musicology. While I do enjoy these albums, you can tell that Prince is definitely gunning for the pop charts. As opposed to more underground sounding albums, like TRC,The Black Album, N.E.W.S and Chaos and Disorder. What I think I miss are albums that show he is commercially viable yet still hold true to his artistic integrity. Albums with pop sensibility but at the same time makes an artistic statement. For example ATWIAD, SOTT, UTMC, 1999, Prince, Purple Rain.

I think their are jewels on every Prince album in my opinion. I notice that P's diversity seems to be a double edge sword at times. Everybody comes to expect something different. I have to hear this record for myself. I just hope it all doesn't sound like he is desperately trying to have a hit like certain moments on Rave and Emancipation. You know.. I hope it doesn't sound forced.

Im pretty xcited that this could be Prince's biggest album in years. Here's what Ive thought of his stuff since leaving WB

Emancipation: Had some great songs, but was also way overblown with shit. Results would have been better if he made it 1 disc, hell, even 2 discs- 2 out of 5

New Power Soul: This just sucked. Nuff said- 1.5 out of 5(only cause of The One, Come On and Wasted Kisses)

Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic: Could have been a good pop album, but it's too inconsistant. Half the CD is on the spot, and the other half isnt as lucky- 2.5 out of 5

The Rainbow Children: Was there musically, but way over its head lyrically- 2.5/3 out of5)

Musicology: Actually, a good return to form. Not terribly original and not a total bang, but a good way to announce your return - 3.5/4 out of 5

And with 3121, this could be Prince's official comeback to outstanding albums

1. I'm happy to call myself a Christian, thank you very much. Based on your logic, I could just as easily say that you are "not a Christian" because I disagree with you casting judgment about someone you have never met, but I'm not going to go that route. thumbs up!

2. I don't believe God is one of fear, and the whole "hell, fire and brimstone" speeches don't convert anyone. Quite the contrary- they are a deterrent. It's possible to lead by example instead of resorting to scare tactics and rhetoric that non-Christians don't adhere to in the first place, you know. rolleyes I have several friends who don't hold Christian beliefs and were against the whole idea of Christianity because of such messages being repeatedly regurgitated. If someone came beating down your door extolling the virtues of some other religion (let's use Shinto as an example), and told you that you were a "Banished One" unless you chose to convert, how do you think that you would react?

3. The fact that you feel that Christianity and having an open mind are mutually exclusive makes me very sad.

like I said your no Christian...how can you have an open mind when the very nature of Christianity is to aknowledge Christ as the son of GOD and the worlds savior. Sorry your sob story won't work on me. You either believe it or you don't. There is no open mind and just try picking up your Bible instead of believing what you chose to believe because its right there. Lastly lets step away from Christianity for a moment and lets talk about Islam or Judaism and think about what your saying about having an open mind? Its absurd and peopl of those faiths would say the same things I am saying to you now. You either believe or you don't. Clearly by you having an open mind means you don't believe in anything related to being a Christian. Heck it appears to me that you don't even know what that is

I guess we agree to disagree because I just don't think there is anything subtle about the lyrics to Anna Stesia, I No, and saying the Lords Prayer (which is directly from the bible apparently many of you don't even know this) is subtle and that only to name a couple of examples. I could go into God or the Power Fantastic...its always been there and in your face. Its been the music that hasn't been up to snuff there by making it more noticecable and a turn off. Goodness I Would Die 4 U clearly a song about Jesus yet the music and lyric is so strong those that are non-believers didn't even notice or care to

And let's not 4get LET'S GO CRAZY. Prince told Chris Rock that LGC was a song about God and Satan. Let's Go Crazy let's get nuts (4 God). R we gonna let the de-elevator (the devil/Satan) break us down? Oh No. Let's go.

All Prince had 2 do was change a few lyrics and this song would easily fit into the Christian/Gospel category. I love it.
