Damn he sounds FIERCE!
His voice just keeps getting better with age. There is a richness, even though he has sung PR 9,634 times, it really came through - pow. I think this might mean that we (US) will not have him all to ourselves this tour if he is strutting around the UK. I hope everyone who wants to gets to see him live this time around! Love wins. I had the honour of going to the Universal Records Brits afterparty at Nobu in Berkeley Square and meeting His Purple Highness!
He was sat upstairs for the beginning of the evening on a table with Tamar, dressed in a black suit with flared trousers. He looked fresh faced, exactly as you'd see him in the pictures. When I managed to speak to him he gave me his full attention (even though he didn't know me), smiled and politely answered my question and shook my hand when I offered it. I was lost for words but congratulated him on his performance and wished him well. At about 12.30am he and his entourage moved downstairs and was seated at the corner table of the dancefloor area. The DJ dropped two Prince tracks - Sexy MF and Kiss when Prince arrived, announcing the the man as a "legend" over the PA. Prince later danced to two funk tracks on the dancefloor with Tamar amongst the other guests (with two security nearby). He did one of those funny gestures where he wipes his forehead with his handkerchief from his suit pocket, looking bemused after doing a funky dance move. Surprisingly, most people in the vicinity didn't seem to notice him (they were probably too drunk on the free alcohol or didn't expect such an occurrence - not everyone knew Prince was actually in that area). Funnily, when the DJ dropped a MJ track, Prince stopped dancing to be seated back at his table in the corner! I can't remember what track it was, but it was one of the pre-Off the Wall ones. I make a passing remark that he should do the moonwalk, to which he laughed as he headed back to the table. He remained seated in the area behind the table with Tamar for the most part of the rest of the evening. Other people (some from Universal, I'm guessing and Lalya? from Mystique I think) joined him at various points them and he engaged in conversation. Several other people were introduced to him and he proceeded to talk with them. He seemed relaxed and friendly towards them throughout. The other band members (the bassist Josh, the drummer and Morris Hayes) were sat at an adjacent table and the dancers (from the photos) enjoyed themselves on the dancefloor. Two large security staff guarded the area in front of the table. At about 1.45am he was seen at the table looking at something on a laptop with his photographer, Tamar and some of the female singers for about 15 solid minutes. It seemed quite relaxed, they laughed at whatever they say on the screen. Perhaps they were reviewing pictures of the concert. He left at around 2.15am and just before doing so saw he asked his assitant for his sunglasses to put on to face the lightning storm of the papparazzi. Rumour has it that he'll might be back in London in a few months time... [Edited 2/15/06 22:54pm]

Dang, what a cool time! What did you think of his interaction with Tamar? Did they seem like buddies or what? Where were Wendy and Lisa? Was he drinking?

He was certainly close to Tamar, she was by his side most of the evening, like very close friends.
I didn't see Wendy or Lisa there, strangely.. I didn't check what he was drinking, though I don't think it was water. Just before leaving he was very courteous to the waiter who was on standby near him and spent a good few minutes talking to him. Forgot to mention that his female assistant asked the DJ to play his new track from a CD she had brought but the DJ refused, saying that he thought the partygoers wouldn't be happy with tracks with which they weren't familiar. Shame. [Edited 2/16/06 0:08am]

Aerogram said: Sure looks great.
Reactions : 1. I don't think I'm about to faint, weep or levitate because W&L are on stage. It's great but no second coming of the Revolution. From the pics, they do seem to energize him. Maybe the best thing is that he has two lesbians on stage again and that was a big stretch only a few months ago, given his perceived JW beliefs. 2. The Princettes seem to fit better on this stage than on SNL. 3. All the comments about hair loss and guts.... please! I have to say that having Wendy, Lisa & Sheila E. on stage, along with Tamar and the trio, and Mr. Hayes makes me think there's something very significant about this album and tour. One thought is that there have been so many reports about his health, and bones, etc., that it makes me think maybe it's his last. It also makes me think that he just wants to surprise the heck out of the people, cuz he feels confident about the new music. And there really is no telling how the new album will sound, given the wide range of the songs we've heard so far.

hate to rain on the parade but i cant see the programme editors showing his full performance on the tv show....12 minutes of airtime to someone who hasnt got a nomination is highly unlikely...i hope im wrong but be prepared to see just purple rain and lets go crazy.

I was there and let me tell you EVERYBODY loved Prince last night. The anticipation and expectation before he came on was unbelievable.
TAC was great live, Fury again was awesome and most importantly the audience loved these too. People on my table who wee not that fussed about him before were blown away. I hope they show the whole thing tonight, I really do. It made me feel a bit funny seeing Wendy and Sheila - a bit like the olden days!
