wow, that's amazing he was on hiatus from touring for the last 6 yrs. I must have been paying a lot of money to see the greatest Prince cover/tribute of band all time during the Jam of the Year, Hit N Run, ONA, etc.. tours.

Isn't that the truth, dumbarse's!

Musicology marked the end of his six-year hiatus from touring, and fans jumped at the chance to see him perform. Prince sold a whopping 1.4 million tickets—more than any other touring act in 2004. The simultaneous release of his Musicology album made it an even more lucrative year for the artist whose name continues to confuse.

He had a great year after being totally written off by the industry. It is a great comeback story.

where'd he comeback from?

That is easy to answer: From obscurity. Most of my friends said: "Cool, new Prince record. I did not know he still recorded" Their last reference point was The Most Beautiful Girl in The World.

what's interesting about this list is,it is dominated by artists who are supposedly well past their prime.Madonna? Elton John? Prince? The Eagles? Bette Midler?! These people have been around for decades and they're still making more money than the so-called "hot" stars of today.

Where is Beyonce,Usher,Eminem,Britney, etc?? The media (and MTV) acts as if those are the only people who matter, yet this latest Forbes list proves otherwise.

Yes, but even with the so-called obscurity he still makes out better financially then the so-called hot stars of today.

Good question by someone who has no idea what they are talking about...
A comeback??? I guess you didn't get to see the ONA tour... or the JOTY tour..
or any of the other shows before that.... too bad for you 'case he was SLAMMIN" !!!

So who, exactly, benefits from reading this information in Forbes ?
The Record Industry? smile
You smile

Well, congratulations to you then,,, I can see why your so happy P made $49MM !!!!! You GO girl !

-----
ONA tour... or the JOTY tour I saw both of those shows smart ass.

To the mainstream media 2004 was a comeback. Keep in mind most of the mass music buying public only keeps up with what every music MTV or the radio deems hot at the moment. Therefore, to the masses this was a comeback.

Maybe you need to get out and read something other than Prince.Org. Forbes does this 100 celebrity thing every year. I read business periodicals 12 months out of the year.

smile ... get out and read something??? You ARE funny... if you only mnew...

Anyway, I hope YOU and the rest of MAINSTREAM US of A enjoyed the "comeback"...
now me and the rest of P's true appreciators can jam at the shows for those over 21...

BTW... mainstream must be so happy that Tom Cruise has made a "comeback" too AND is now ENGAGED !!! Great career move Tom.... see you in Forbes!!!

What is impressive is that Madonna tickets went for as much as $300 while Prince tickets were less than $80 yet Prince made nearly as much as she did.

At the top of the "Who Cares" list....

Am I really "glad" P made $49 MM last year ???

I am glad he earned enough to make him happy and make him want to do more...
but is it necessary to know EXACTLY how much $$$ people make in this business???
Would you feel "worse" if he netted 30MM or 15MM or even 5MM ???

Wow... what a bad year...he ONLY made $5 Million Dollars.... think about it...

In actuality...Wow What a GREAT year... He was happier than he has been in years... he gave us great new music.... great performances... ROR HOF.... Mani...his Health.... more to follow...

Were is THAT in the Forbes list ???

I wonder just how much of all that cash Madonna gave to the Make Poverty History campaign. Call me heartless, but am I the only person who resents multi-millionaires telling me to open my wallet?

The only reason why Madonna and the others made so much is because they were charging ridiculous prices for their concert tickets. Such parasites, in my view. I could never stand the ground Madonna walks on. She has to be the most overrated, non-talented trash to ever hit the airwaves.

[Disclaimer: to all you Madge Worshippers, this is just my opinion, take a chill pill in advance.]

Amen to that! She's a highly successful artist not because she's talented, and not because she's got great business sense, but because she cannot even contemplate the idea that she might not be the greatest artist who ever walked the Earth. Of course, there's a lot to be said for that kind of arrogance (it's certainly done her no harm as far as the bank balance goes).
Throw enough shit at the wall and some of it will stick.

I would never pay money to see what amounts to a f*cking fashion show! If I'd been in the business for twenty years, I'd have the decency to learn how to at least sing in tune! And what the hell's she doing joining a religion that is dead set against homosexuality when practically her whole career these days is built on the pink pound?!

Breathe, Peter... Breathe...
