Prince is obviously more talented as a musician (a player of instruments, that is), but I don't see Bowie releasing tunes like Poom Poom, Jughead, or including lines like "Give back the chains..." and on and on...

They're both great.

I'd say Bowie's shot some scat of his own into our ears more than a few times over the course of his career, though.

(P.S. Jughead is BRILLIANT)

To answer part of the first question, YES, Prince and David Bowie once performed together at an aftershow. Ask Boris or Giotto for more info.

Now this I'd love to hear about.

These days, I actually prefer Bowie.

I just stay away from his internet communities because I feel that changed my perspective on Prince somewhat.

you're not missing much. the bowie internet community seems like nice folks, but in my opinion it's not all that engaging. or at least there aren't as many flame wars, bizarre sexual fantasies, or cases of general wingnuttery.

nod

I've said it once and I'll say it again: Prince attracts crazy people.

I'd say they're equally talented and equally influential, but in very different ways.

I have wondered how much influence Bowie's gender-bending had on Prince's style throughout the years...

As for the waxing vs. airbrushing debate: The Lovesexy cover looks like a combination of both to me. Prince doesn't really have hairy legs to begin with though, so maybe not. shrug

Prince can write funny, sophisticated lyrics, really interesting sexual imagery, amazing love songs but I think as far as lyrics are concerned, Bowie is way ahead of him.

AND he never sang "the bible's the only book she reads".
