Prince ever seen you?

I know alot of you have met Prince but have you seen him just by being upclose in the audience? Maybe hollered at him while he was getig into his limo?

I think he may have seen me from afar at the Jame of the year concert in Dalls 1997.

I know we looked dead at each other when I was 4th row at the Hit Run Concert Houston 2000. Although my view was blocked by a speaker through most of the night.
Working up a purple sweat.

This may be the cutest thing I've ever read... EVER comfort

He probably saw me, been front row twice... had to cross in front of his car as he drove from Paisley once - surely he saw me if he's a safe driver lol

Who knows - don't we all think he's looking @ us even when he's looking slightly over our heads lol @ that distance it's hard to tell.

Not sure if it means much, but it's kinda cool when he looks at you. One time he looked at me (or seemed to) for a good 20-seconds or so when he was giving his Lovesexy "God is alive... He's inside you" speech in Oakland, Nov 10, 1988. Seemed to me that he was checking to see if his words were having an effect on anyone.

Another time he was lost in the middle of a long guitar-solo jam during a Santana-medley at the Fillmore in San Francisco -- he had his eyes closed the whole time, then for just a second he opened one eye to look down at the audience -- I was standing front and center -- he looked right at me and no one else, then closed his eyes again. That was a little freaky. But cool. Anyone remember this?

Oh yeah, and of course he looked at me (and many others) quite a bit during a soundcheck chat we had with him at the Oakland Coliseum in 2001.

Okay, I'll try to make this as short a story as I can. smile

Back in 1988 I was going out with this guy who was a HUGE Prince fan (as was I).

In May of 1988, he and I and two friends drove to Minneapolis for a Jesse Johnson concert at First Ave. The JJ concert was in the evening, and so we had a whole day to kill before the show.

Being that we were: A. in Minneapolis for the day with nothing better to do; B. such huge Prince fanatics (my ex even more so than I...) with nothing better to do; C. young and not using such good common sense *and* were huge Prince fanatics in Minneapolis for the day with nothing better to do, we all decided it was a great idea to drive out to Paisley Park and see what we could see.

Well, when we got out to PP sometime in mid-morning, we saw Prince's Thunderbird parked near the front doors next to a turquoise car. Again I plead young-ness, lack of common sense-ness and bad judgment-ness but we decided it would be another great idea (!) to sit there and wait for Prince to come out and try to get his autograph.

I'll skip over ALLLLL the gory details that led up to the moment relevant to this thread and just say that Prince finally came out and got in his car, drove up towards us where we'd been sitting in OUR car and pretty much looked the four of us each, in turn, dead in the eye. I can still visualize that moment, of him looking directly at me with those big brown eyes, sittin there in his car looking all gorgeous with the sun shining in on him. biggrin

Then, he basically told us - politely, nicely, yet FIRMLY - to please vacate the parking lot and that no, he would not sign any autographs. Then he drove *quickly* away. lol I can vouch for the rumors about Prince being a leadfoot driver.

(ps - Sheila E. was driving behind him in the turquoise car and she waved to us and smiled. smile)

Wow, pretty cool, SnowQueen -- and to think this was the time when he was putting together his biggest tour production ever! I bet Jesse was pretty awesome to see as well, eh?

Yes, it is amazing to imagine what he and Sheila might have been working on inside Paisley that day while we all sat out there in our car! (BTW - as a sidenote, the day this incident happened was the day the 'Alphabet Street' vid premiered on MTV. biggrin)

As for seeing Jesse, we unfortunately never got to see him. We didn't know until we arrived at First Avenue that you had to be 21 to get in to the show and only one of us four were 21 at the time. sad We were very disappointed. The four of us had even worn pink and white for his show since those were "Jesse's colors" (my memory isn't so good but something's nagging at me that it'd been *asked* of the concertgoers to wear pink and white to the show, but I might be mistaken about that and we four just came up with the idea on our own..) At any rate, it was a major bummer to not have been able to get in to see Jesse. We'd all really been looking forward to it.

When he came to my city in 1997 for the "Jam Of The Year" tour, I was in the fourth row. I waited until the rest of the crowd was through hollering and then I hollered, "Allright dammitt....you better work!!". Prince looked over his shades and smiled at me.

I got to go up on stage at the New Orleans One Night Alone show. After the jam and the lights went out, I was blind and he took my hand and put his arm around me and told me he'd lead me off stage. He was laughing because I was stumbling around and thanked me as he helped me off. biggrin It was great.

Twice. Prince has seen me with a friend outside of Paisley Park, because we were alone 2gether, chillin' n the Paisley shade. The 2nd time was @ the Musicology concert. I had a ripped Jimi Hendrix shirt on, and Prince pointed @ me, tugged his shirt, and started dancin'. THAT WAS AWESOME!!!! yay!

in the one nite alone tour - Prince had me come on stage while they played xenophobia - he had to help me get up on stage and talked to me briefly before I went back down to my seat.

Two experiences come to mind - at the Lovesexy gig at Wembley in '88 at the end when he Sheila and Cat got on the top of the car and it 'drove' off, I made a cross with my fingers (I was in the third row) and he looked down right into my eyes and did the same with his fingers. I'm an atheist but that didn't seem to matter.

Second was at an aftershow at the Astoria on the Gold tour, he fell back onto the crowd whilst playing guitar, his butt landed in my hands, I and others pushed him back up, he turned round, lowered his dark glasses, gave me the eye and grinned before carrying on playing.

Also at a Nude show in '90 I was front row left with my brother and he pointed at my brother and did one of those 'I see ya' things. My brother nearly flew he was so happy.

I think that I may have been seen. I'm 6'4" tall and was on the second row when Musicology came to my town. The "back stage" curtain was directly in front of us. That was very cool. My wife definately made eye contact with him when he came out from behind the curtain for the acoustic set. George Clinton was there that night and he stood right in front of me for what seemed like 10 minutes but it was probably more like 2 minutes, ya know? Anyway, I tapped George on the sholder, he turned to me and I gave him "the nod" and he gave me "the nod" back.

The first show that I saw was in Birmingham,AL 1997 and I was very close on the general admission floor. I'm not sure if I was seen but I know I was heard. When Prince was singing "HCUDCMA?" he was letting the audience sing the song, and honestly the crowd didn't seem to know it, so I thought I'd help (very loudly) and Prince responded as did the crowd with laughter. You can hear this if you have a copy of the show. Good Times!

That Birmingham show was my first Prince show. I was up front (to the right) with a buddy of mine, and P gave us the finger when we yelled "Prince" during a quiet moment. biggrin
