Hands...I do not mind the naysayers...you're right...it's the sniping and meanness that seems unnecessary...just my opinion. neutral

Hands...I understand too...

But, like piscesglenn said...meanness seems unnecessary. Really...no one should be mean to anyone. Opinions should be respected on both ends...naysayer or not.

It's not that big a deal to get worked up over. Prince getting 2 Grammys this year is like making up for not winnin w/Sign 'O' The Times or Purple Rain; the Grammys have done this before w/Santana a couple of years ago and other artists.
It would've been nice to see him perform, but Prince fans have had a great 2004 w/last year's Grammy performance, the Hall of Fame induction that he raised the roof on, and the Musicology tour.

Me, I'm wondering what he's got cookin to release next....

No, he could have showed up, if not for the awards, for his FANS like us who have been there for him after all this time...

This is a ridiculous post... Prince doesn't owe you or me anything... The only thing he is obligated to do, is put on kickass shows and write great songs. He's done that BIG TIME.

What does it matter to you if he shows up to accept an award? Does it really validate you, or show that Prince is doing something for you?

Real fans know the time and pssion they've clocked.

Enjoy the music and relax!

Some awards didn't make the televised show.

Prince also won a grammy for Biggest Half-Assed Comeback of the Year.

Too bad the 2004-2005 triumph of Prince still continues to upset you for some odd reason...
Too bad you can't give him props for a record-setting tour, killer shows, great album, and a brillant marketing campaign...
Too bad you're stuck in 1987...
Too bad you've got to cling to the "Prince sucks" persona, til you have zero credibility round here...
Too bad you missed a great year of being a fan cause you were too busy striving to hate on everything...
Too bad you're such a depressed person...
Too bad indeed... sad

KrystleEyes

look at the tainted history of the sad-arse grammys - they're generally given to over-rated has-beens who's best work was long ago - it's generally become a good indication that you've "jumped the shark"- this is nothing to be proud of - and the fact the the musicology album got grammys over his past far superior albums just shows that the trend continues - i dont see this as a high point
but then again, at least its good to see that that second rate talentless Jacko wannabe gay-boy cock-chuggin usher LOST!

Sure I can. Musicology sucked, every TV appearence except the RRHOF sucked, most of the tour sucked, and Prince has been sucking bad for years in general. A few good moments, yes, but still.....sux.

Well, the album sales were helped dramatically by the counting concert giveaways as sales scheme, and the singles weren't exactly major hits, but...

his tour was #1 in attendance and money
He made the most money of any rock star in 2004
and he had the cover story on many magazines, including Rolling Stone

A pretty good year by most artist's standards, and 26 years into a career, even better.

No! Prince never won a Grammy for the song Kiss. Prince never won a Grammy in the 1986 or 1987 for Kiss or anything in 1986 or 1987.
In January 27, 1986 at the American Music Awards Prince presented an award in the best pop-rock category for favourite single, Huey Lewis won.

The people who present the awards think otherwise:

Thanks for the chuckle. I needed that.

I gave Prince lots of credit for the good shit he did last year, but he made more crap than gold. The marketing plan and CD/concert bullshit are what made him big.

True. But the tour was a hit cuz he marketed the shit out of it and posted, "Last time he's playing the hits." People went for the classics, not for anything he's done in the past 10 years. The new music itself didn't get any real buzz.

"Most of the tour sucked?" See, there's where you lose all credibility.
I went four nights with NPGMC seats, and had a blast. The first two nights were mind-blowing.
I have no idea what part of the tour you felt didn't suck since most of the shows were basically the same, but if you didn't go, or if you went and had a lousy time, than you suck.

You suck because you cannot apreciate that a 46 year old man could turn it out like that in arenas every night for two and a half hours and over six months, with a show full of high energy and great music.
You really are just a joyless sourpuss.

EXAAAAACTLY!

EWM and similar sad-sacks just cannot admit that Prince has pulled off a stunning thing this year with the media he has generated, the dollars he has generated, and now the awards to boot. There's really no way to deny it and still have any real credibility.

Face it haters, you lose!

And how many people went to see the Rolling Stones for "Voodoo Lounge" songs or whatever? They're laughing all the way to thier mansions on one of their islands.
And since when is it a crime to market your tour?
It's practically a tradition at this point for veteran acts to market a tour as a farewell or goodbye of some sort. Bowie stopped playing the hits in '89. Yeah, right.
And much to his credit, Prince doesn't whore himself to Madison Avenue. No Visa or Budweiser commercials that double as a concert commercial.

The love for me here tonight is overwhelming. touched

I did see the show, and I felt it was pretty damn lame. I've seen him perform well, and then I saw that. I ain't down with that "fun for the whole family bullshit." The only real high point was when he played Bambi. Damn near everything else was watered down and "jazzified." Now I will say that his RRHOF after show was the bomb. It was way better than the big tour shows. So I'm not just pissing on everything. M'kay?

Either you went to "most of the tour" or bought bootlegs of the shows, and are a HUGE hypocrite...
