This is crazy right now. Too bad Prince isn't there but Prince wouldn't be Prince if he did the traditional thing. That's too exciting that Usher finally LOST to the True Funk Soldier! Justice has been served!

It's hilarious because Prince beat Usher, and he did not even show up. It's just like saying, "this show sucks, you all suck, I'm better than you all." And... I love it. But I think Prince might be a surprise guest.

Wake up...he's not there...he snubbed the Grammys...and his fans!! I'm extremely disappointed...

Prince is THE MAN. He doesn't need to show up. I thought Nelly's Prince scream was really cool too.

I think it's cool and classic Prince that he didn't show up. Anyone else in his situation would've shown up just to continue milking the success he's had in the past year, but that's never been Prince's style. Musicology is over for him and he's moved on. This is the best evidence yet that Prince is truly back!

Hey Lou -- long time no talk... been years! Grammy's have been giving him nominations consistently since '83 -- with a dry spell between '93 to '03, I believe. I made a post about this a couple months ago (listing every single nomination and win), but there's no way to find it now -- not even Google will bring it up for some reason.

When is the last time Prince won though? It's hard to believe he didn't win anything for SOTT, Lovesexy, GB, D&P, Symbol, or even Gold. But Musicology? Then again watching this show, I think it's less about real music than what's on MTV, VH1 (all ten videos they show). Then again, I don't like much current music, so what do I know. I like to listen to Woody Allen's Jazz Band... but, Alicia Keys and U2 were good tonight.

I wish I could find that post. I think his last Grammy win was at the 87 Grammy's -- a songwriter award for "Kiss" I think.

First let me say I am so glad Prince beat out Usher.

And though I personally agree that the Grammys have become rather a joke in the last years (decade?) and winning one doesn't mean what it used to, I hope if what you say - that if Prince think the show "sucks" and he's so above it/those people and thinks it all sucks - that he refuses to accept his award otherwise he'd be a hypocrite. Why would he want an award from an organization he thinks "sucks" and that he's so superior to anyway?

JMO, but I seriously doubt Prince's absence from the Grammys is some kind of boycott or public statement of his opinion of the Grammys or how much "better" he is than everyone else. rolleyes

It's not that big a deal to get worked up over. Prince getting 2 Grammys this year is like making up for not winnin w/Sign 'O' The Times or Purple Rain; the Grammys have done this before w/Santana a couple of years ago and other artists.
It would've been nice to see him perform, but Prince fans have had a great 2004 w/last year's Grammy performance, the Hall of Fame induction that he raised the roof on, and the Musicology tour.

Me, I'm wondering what he's got cookin to release next....

How come he went to the People's Choice awards AND the Golden Globes just a couple weeks ago, I wonder?

He could have, but maybe he couldn't have made it. Do I know for sure...no, but I don't care if he could've shown up or not. I've been on the fanwagon for 20+ years too, but I'm not get so worked up that he didn't show up to the Grammys to pick up an award. He performed last year, and that was good enough for me. As long as he keeps touring and making new CDs, I'm good. And I'm not even gonna go down the Prince doesn't do enough for his fans reasoning. That would have me too frustrated.

He owes his success to his fans, like us...

and he gives his fans his music and concerts, videos, etc. that's all he's responsible for as far as his fans go. it's not necessary for me, a prince fan, to see him at an award show. these awards shows are a joke anyway.

Maybe Prince was too busy washing his hair. I mean, what's the big deal...Prince isn't all about awards. We all know that. As for his fans...I mean, he gives us alot. Not showing to one award show doesn't mean he hates us. It just mean that he can care less about whether or not he wins. He's said it over and over again...his music is about him and his fans. Not about awards.

So, I'm not depressed. I'm still happy the music community is recognizing him and appreciating him like many of us have for so many years.

And...I'm SOOOO happy someone shut that cocky Usher up. I'm tired of him winning awards he doesn't deserve. Prince makes his albums. Usher is simply good at collaborating with others.

That's my theory...and i'm sticking to it.
